Just four minutes from the Ponte Vecchio on foot, this home's location alone is enough reason for us to praise it to the skies. It sits along a steep, cobbled street in the heart of Florence's historic centre and boasts proximity to all the main sights on foot. You couldn't ask for a better location, less than a twenty-minute stroll from the Duomo and the famous Piazzale Michelangelo viewpoint and even closer to the Pitti Palace's museums and gardens. 

The interior is warm and inviting, striking the perfect balance between authentic charm and contemporary comfort. We especially love the open-plan living space, primed for relaxation with a compact yet equipped kitchen, a large dining table, a cosy lounge and a majestic fireplace. Perched on the second floor, it feels delightfully peaceful despite its central location and offers beautiful views from its large shuttered windows. After a day of adventure, enjoy a glass of wine while admiring your scenic surroundings before slipping out for your reservation at one of the many eateries nearby.

Situated close to all the historical sights, you can walk to landmarks like the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, while good public transport connections mean that you can easily reach other parts of the city, too. Of course, being in the heart of the city has its quirks. Noise is likely here, and a climb to the third floor is required as the building doesn't have a lift. But once inside, we reckon you'll appreciate the traditional features on offer. The open-plan living area has just enough room to decompress after sightseeing as well as a compact (yet well-appointed) kitchen to rustle up Italian dishes. Two guests will sleep on a sofa bed, though – fine for short stays, but may not suit everyone.

Back at this apartment, housed in a historic palazzo, you can take in the views over Piazza della Signoria – the vistas here are stunning. The living area is a great place to relax after a busy day in Florence – this room also sleeps guests five and six on a sofa bed. This home is a great find.

In an enviable location directly on the River Arno, this home offers ample space and stunning views. We think it’d be very well suited to groups of friends or families, as it has a great social space but individual guests can still have their privacy. You can imagine the main area being used for hosting dinner parties, or just for relaxing on the sofa after a day of exploring. We thought the bathrooms were a little on the small side, but in a home this beautiful in this location, we can look past that. 


River Elegance

Directly between the Duomo and the Basilica di San Lorenzo, Oak Cask is in a really special position. You’ll have to put up with the tourists outside, but that’s the case everywhere in Florence, and it really shouldn’t cause you to pass up the chance to stay here. On top of the location, we also really liked the terrace – there’s enough furniture on it to eat alfresco, and as it faces west, it’s perfect for long evenings outside.


Oak Cask

The location of this apartment is impressive. It’s a stone’s throw from the Arno and a short stroll from the Uffizi Gallery, with major attractions like Piazza della Signoria ten minutes away on foot. You’ll have countless restaurants and cafes nearby and you’ll also have a well-equipped kitchen, should you prefer to dine in. The apartment features frescoed ceilings but is otherwise simple in style. It’s a comfortable base that’s perfectly positioned for visiting Florence. 

Beside the Arno

It’s all about the location at this petit apartment in Florence. The striking Duomo – the emblem of the city – is just a two-minute stroll away and the streets surrounding the apartment are home to trattoria serving Tuscan cuisine, bars for appertivo and art galleries and old churches galore. Slipping straight from the historic streets to your bolthole, you’ll find a simple spot to put your feet up. This modern apartment sits just outside of the bustling city centre of Florence, in San Frediano. It’s an excellent choice for those wanting to be close to the sights of the city while still enjoying a peaceful holiday location – you can easily walk to Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi, and the Duomo from here. The apartment is also close to Santa Maria Novella train station. We love the stylish furniture and the large windows, which make this home-from-home bright and welcoming. The balcony is the perfect spot for a glass of wine before heading out to dinner. 


Renaissance Respite

A simple, unflashy, but generally pleasant loft, Rush Hour’s main draw is its proximity to the Duomo. It also has a set of French windows that light up the entire place (it’s all a single room, with the exception of the bathroom). There are a couple of sister flats in the same building, still managed by Valerio, so while the flat itself can’t really accommodate more than two people, larger groups could book more than one place at a time.

In Italian construction, the 'piano nobile' refers to the storey of a building — typically the first — on which the nobility would reside, therefore being designed to get the most favourable living conditions. This apartment in a fifteenth-century building is a prime example of how this looks in practice. High ceilings and large windows (through some of which the Duomo can be spotted) make the interior feel bright and inviting, while being positioned above street level means that it's a little more peaceful than elsewhere in the building. While there are some period features — the fresco ceilings and the imposing oak front door — the apartment has been modernised in the ensuing six hundred years or so. The parquet flooring, marble bathrooms and mid-century style furniture in deep blues and greens are today's emblems of fine taste. When you're ready to go exploring, you don't have far to go — Basilica di San Lorenzo and Riccardi Medici Palace are just across the street, while the Duomo is only five minutes' walk away.

Looking for a characterful bolthole in the historic heart of Tuscany’s capital? This quintessential Florentine apartment should do nicely, set just two minutes from Piazza Santa Maria Novella and five from the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. While the interiors are utterly charming, a home of this heritage does have its quirks. Expect to climb stairs to reach the third floor and a mezzanine space accessed via a small ladder that is unsuitable for young children. It’s also worth noting there's a double sofa bed here and only room for two around the kitchen table. However, there’s heaps of space to spill out in the main living room with those high ceilings and views of the piazza below.

One glance at the private balcony and you'll see why this apartment caught our eye. It's the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine in the sunshine, even if the views aren't the most inspiring. Indoors, the bright living area is designed for relaxing, while the kitchen has all the essentials needed to rustle up an Italian feast.
