Overlooking Piazza della Signoria, this apartment has a fantastic address. Attractions such as the Fountain of Neptune, Piazza del Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio are all within a very short stroll. Back at this apartment, housed in a historic palazzo, you can take in the views over Piazza della Signoria – the vistas here are stunning. The living area is a great place to relax after a busy day in Florence – this room also sleeps guests five and six on a sofa bed. This home is a great find.

This apartment is a great base for a family or a group of friends visiting Florence. There's even a desk if you need to catch up on work. And while the kitchen is on the smaller side (though still well-equipped), you'll find an array of delicious eateries a short stroll away.

This elegant Florence home delivers on both style and location. Set in the historic centre, you’re five minutes on foot from the Galleria dell’Accademia and ten to the majestic Duomo – a spot-on base for exploring. Despite the building’s heritage charm (don't get us started on those magnificent gabled ceilings), the apartment is surprisingly practical. Each generously proportioned bedroom has a separate shower room – so there’s no need to tussle for the best room here. All that said, there are a few things to note here. The kitchen is on the compact side, and the apartment building has no lift, so be prepared to climb some stairs. But for a home delivering on so much else, we'll let that slide.

Also within walking distance are the Basilica of Santa Croce, Palazzo Pitti and Florence Cathedral. You don’t have to go anywhere to admire some art though, as there are beautiful, frescoed ceilings at this historic home. This place is great for families or friends as there are two living rooms, as well as a mezzanine seating area which sleeps two guests on a sofa bed at full capacity. This home is perfect for those seeking history, elegance and comfort in the beating heart of Florence.

You couldn't ask for a better location, less than a twenty-minute stroll from the Duomo and the famous Piazzale Michelangelo viewpoint and even closer to the Pitti Palace's museums and gardens. 

The interior is warm and inviting, striking the perfect balance between authentic charm and contemporary comfort. We especially love the open-plan living space, primed for relaxation with a compact yet equipped kitchen, a large dining table, a cosy lounge and a majestic fireplace. Perched on the second floor, it feels delightfully peaceful despite its central location and offers beautiful views from its large shuttered windows. Location is the name of the game at this one-bed in Florence. It's near Piazza Santissima Annunziata, away from the tourist throngs, but close enough to the action that you can do a lot on foot. The Holy Heart

Nestled in the heart of Florence’s historical centre, you’ll find bars, restaurants, and shops aplenty on the doorstep, as well as the city’s oldest market. And with Duomo di Firenze, Boboli Gardens, and Ponte Vecchio all within walking distance, you won’t have to venture far to explore they city’s must-sees. We love the traditional features in this home but the bedroom doesn’t have a door so privacy here is limited. It’s also worth noting that it’s on the third floor, without a lift. If climbing sixty-five steps to the front door isn’t a deal-breaker, we think this place is a great find for a couple or solo traveller seeking a central spot.

Around the corner from Ponte Santa Trinità, Chimney Sweep is in a great location for seeing the centre of Florence. Despite being set over three levels, it’s quite small, but while the kitchen is a little underwhelming, the rest of the house feels pleasantly cosy. Unusually, one of our favourite parts of the home is the single room. What used to be an enormous stone fireplace has been converted into a writing nook, and it feels like a wonderful place to set up shop with a laptop and get to work on your novel.

This apartment offers a relaxed and easy stay in the historic heart of Florence. Nestled inside a Palazzo dating back to 1500, you’ll be welcomed by a wonderful sense of character. There’s also private terrace for evening drinks, while the rooms are perfect for families with the handy addition of a sofa bed in the living room. It’s worth noting you can hear street noise from one of the bedrooms, but we think the location more than makes up for it. From here, it’s just a short stroll to iconic sights like the beautiful Basilica of Santa Croce, the Market of Sant'Ambrogio and the Duomo.

When we came across this quaint apartment, we did a double-take. While it may be a bit old-school in style, it has lots of charm for a city stay. Set on the third floor, with a private balcony overlooking the rooftops of Florence, there's no lack of character here – that being said, it may feel a little dated in parts. And, while the bedrooms are semi-open, limiting privacy, its location in the historic district makes it a good choice for those keen to be close to the action.

Take things easy on one of two gorgeous balconies belonging to this dream of an apartment a short walk from central Florence. With views across the rooftops to the green hills, it's just about 50 metres from Ponte Viejo and Piazza Pitti.

A romantic retreat for two at the top of a traditional building, it's bright, neatly laid out and super comfortable. In the summer months, all you'll need is the small but practical kitchen, the outdoor dining table – shaded from the sun with an awning – and the squashy outdoor corner sofa. Grab some fresh bread, olives and a glass of something chilled, and watch the sun go down over this historic city.

Aria to a Bird

Footsteps from the train station, this apartment sits between the red-roofed buildings and ancient churches of Florence’s centre. It’s styled for the perfect escape to a historic and culture-filled city with darkwood, wrought iron and chandeliers grabbing your attention. We adore the ceiling motif – layers of old parchments and book pages with a clutter of bric-a-brac, as though somebody raided one of the city’s museum store room and fixed the contents to the old wood beams. Then there are the 16th-century frescoes that have been restored, and the kitchen made from old medieval doors. A second kitchen downstairs is all sleek modernity, but the upstairs bedrooms embrace the old world with velvet and hand-painted headboards. 

All of Florence is on your doorstep here, with Piazza della Signoria two steps away and the ancient streets leading to the central Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in ten minutes on foot. 

The Curator's Daydream

Just footsteps from the shop-lined medieval Ponte Vecchio Bridge, this apartment sits on the banks of the River Arno. If you’re not visiting the riverside restaurants or ancient jewellery shops of the bridge on your doorstep, make the two-minute walk to the Ufizzi Gallery to discover the world-famous Renaissance art inside. 

Inside, it’s a modern haven of calm, despite the super central location. Wooden floors complement pristine white walls in the open-plan living area. Sun-filled breakfasts can be taken at the dining table by the big window and the kitchen is tucked away in a separate room with an additional dining table. The little terracotta-tiled balcony is a real bonus, with its bistro table set looking out over the internal courtyard.

Stunning panoramic views await in this top-floor studio apartment. The scenery speaks for itself – you'll wake up to Palazzo Pitti and drift off to the Duomo. Perched in the building's watchtower, it's part of an ancient palace dating back to 1470. If you love traditional features, this is the home for you – expect terracotta floors, wooden ceilings, a Renaissance courtyard steeped in history, and, of course, large windows that frame the Florentine skyline. Granted, there are a few things to note here. The kitchen is compact, and there are quite a lot of stairs. Still, with vistas as good as this and an impeccable location, we think that's a worthwhile compromise.
