We love the outdoor space at this quaint Italian villa. Amidst the hazel and chestnut trees, you'll find lots of hidden spots to relax and enjoy the weather. Take a dip in the swimming pool, gather for drinks under the parasol, and enjoy an Italian feast alfresco under the clambering vines on the patio. The single-floor layout of this home means each of the bedrooms enjoys peaceful garden views, and the sliding glass doors let in plenty of sunshine into the living space. Tucked away in a rural corner of Viterbo, this is the perfect spot to unwind from everyday life – yet there's plenty to see in the local area, from the shore of Lago di Vico to charming hilltop towns like Ronciglione. 

Antique Valley

You can watch the stunning sunsets from this stone farmhouse in the Umbrian hills. Take in the views of the surrounding valleys from the private pool, garden and balcony – wonderful memories with family and friends are sure to be created here. The accommodation, set over three floors, is split between the main house and an annexe which has two more bedrooms and and a kitchen area. Another highlight is the location – it’s only 12 kilometres from the historical centre of Todi, with its medieval buildings, piazzas, palaces and Roman relics.

An Umbrian Rhapsody

This is a rural Italian escape to remember. This 18th-century home has been restored using local natural materials, ensuring its Tuscan heritage is in full view. The villa stands in unspoiled gardens within seemingly endless fields and woodland – you’ll feel a million miles from the hustle and bustle, but the shops, restaurants, and thermal springs of San Casciano dei Bagni are less than 5 kilometres away. You’ll need a car to explore the area, but your efforts will be rewarded with visits to some of Tuscany’s most picturesque spots. 


Italian Grove

This palatial Umbrian villa sits on a 140-acre wine estate amid beautiful countryside. There are hiking and cycling trails through the surrounding vineyards, making this an excellent base for outdoorsy travellers. Orvieto, with its winding medieval streets and Gothic cathedral, is just fifteen minutes away, perfect for a day-trip or a meal out. The villa is traditional, with beamed ceilings and terracotta-tiled floors. A grand feature staircase leads from the open-plan living space to the bedrooms, which are comfortable enough to rival a hotel’s. Outside, you'll have a private pool and a barbecue for alfresco dining in stunning surrounds. 

Umbrian Vista

As far as villas go, you don't get much more 'hilltop' than this. Soak up the views across the Umbrian hills towards the city of Todi, a tableau so beautiful so you'll never want to leave. The scents of jasmine, lavender, and roses follow you down the stone steps to the infinity pool, which is surrounded by sun loungers and a shaded gazebo. The views take centre-stage in the villa, too – large windows surround the space, where you'll find a country-style kitchen with an island and a cosy living space with a corner sofa and fireplace. A marble staircase leads upstairs to the bedrooms, where you'll wake up each morning to similarly spectacular country vistas. Sip your coffee outside on the terrace, then spend the morning sunbathing on the perfectly manicured lawn. Take the 10-minute drive to Todi to wander the cobbled streets and explore local restaurants – you might recognise some of the plazas from Italian movies. Pick up some local wine to enjoy with a barbecue back at your villa, and savour a glass while admiring the stunning sunset over the surrounding hills.

Sweet Jasmine

With its sunny swimming pool, gorgeous views, and country charm, we think you’ll love life in this Umbrian villa. There are shady terraces to relax with a book or enjoy a leisurely lunch, cosy and characterful rooms, and a farmhouse kitchen for turning regional fare into an Italian feast. The main house has four double bedrooms, and if eight or more of you are staying, you’ll also have access to a separate converted barn and cottage where there are two extra bedrooms. As for amenities, nearby Città della Pieve has restaurants and bars for entertaining evenings, and you’ll also be in one of the best spots for sampling local wines at one of the area’s prestigious wineries.

A Painted Place

While Lazio has Rome as its regional capital, this bustling metropolis is only one face of this diverse district. Its natural landscapes feature an incredible array of lush fields, glistening lakes, and fertile farmlands. Just a seventeen-minute drive from Lake Vico, set in five thousand square feet of private grounds, this villa is right in the heart of the natural world.

Upon arrival, its red roof tiles stand out against the verdant green backdrop. Countryside views stretch out for miles from any angle, making it feel like a real retreat – but not without some luxury touches. We love the private pool at the rustic paved courtyard, and one level up you’ve got a cosy, outdoor dining terrace to shade you from the Italian sun.

Step inside to top up your glass of local wine, where you’ll find a kitchen and living space with original wooden beams propping up the sloped ceilings. Despite this rustic feel, with a chunky timber dining table to match, some of the furniture is surprisingly minimalist and modern. This is especially true of the floating staircase, a 21st-century update to this traditional country villa. Follow the steps up to the mezzanine for a relaxing slumber.

Sage Leaf

Located just outside Cetona in Tuscany, this picturesque home is the perfect place to find peace and tranquility amidst the region’s renowned rolling hills and forests. A renovated stone mill, its romance is clear the moment you step inside. From its beamed ceilings, traditional kitchen and bright study that leads out in the garden, this compact but comfortable villa feels like an intimate country hideaway made for the sole purpose of your relaxation. And then there’s the bedroom with its forest palette, green gothic headboard and access to the terrace. Wake up and head outside for your morning coffee under a shady oak tree, then while away the hours in the pool or discover the babbling brook just beyond the home’s canopy of trees. The medieval town of Cetona with its sandy-hued piazza and palazzo is also just five minutes away by car. A trip to rustic Tuscany is always a good idea – and staying in this beautiful home seals the deal. This gorgeous pale stone house is tucked just outside of the small town of Palazzone in the Tuscan countryside. Far-reaching views of the lush countryside of Tuscany and Umbria make for a magnificent backdrop, complementing the centuries-old trees, olive groves, and meadows that surround the home. This is an idyll, where the scent of lavender carries on the breeze. 

The garden is a haven of tranquillity and natural beauty. Float in the swimming pool while you watch bees bob around the flowers, the hum of insects the only sound to disturb the peace. Spend hours at the alfresco dining table, turning languid lunches into lively dinners as the sun sinks in the sky and the wine is poured more freely. 

When the Tuscan sun is at its strongest, shelter in the traditional living room, beneath wooden beams. The villa is cool and calm, with enough room for everyone to enjoy their own space. 

You might like to drive out to explore the region, popping into Palazzone to eat pizza in the much-loved restaurant. The town is famous for its wine production, and is a far offshoot of the Chianti region – you can happily spend an afternoon or two visiting the local vineyards and sampling the wine. Your host’s family produces their own wine and olive oil – add some freshly baked bread and local cheese, and you have the makings of a perfect lunch. 


Honey & Lavender

Tucked among the rolling Umbrian hills, this beautiful home is surrounded by centuries-old olive trees and sweeping views. It invites long lunches on the patio, sublime swimming in the pool, and evenings under a starlit sky. Inside, light-filled spaces and carefully chosen details create an atmosphere that’s both warm and refined, perfect for gathering with family or friends. With its ideal location for exploring Umbria’s countryside and Tuscany’s treasures just beyond, you’ll find a stay here is as much about the moments you create as the landscapes you discover.

The Old Citadel

Sit out on the balcony of this home and enjoy the view over the Umbrian Valley. The lush, green countryside is echoed in the home’s 3.5-hectare garden, where you’ll find an olive grove with 700 trees, alongside manicured lawns and terracotta terraces nearer the home. Breathe in the scent of oleander flowers and fig, plum and fruit trees as you make your way to the pergola framed by trailing plants – the perfect spot for an alfresco lunch cooked on the traditional wood oven. You’re likely to spend much of your time laying back on the sunbeds or swimming in the pool, but in the evenings, the glass gazebo is the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of local wine. Inside, as well as the main kitchen and grand living space, you’ll find a separate kitchen, sitting room and two bedrooms on the lower floor, making this a great space for two families or groups of friends.The historic town of Foligno is just 5km away, with Perugia a 40-minute drive and Siena only a little further in the distance.

Abriana

Floor-to-ceiling black-framed windows and a sensitive renovation have turned this 16th-century Umbrian dovecote tower into one of the region's smartest stays. Behind the stone tower, the jagged cliffs and town of Orvieto loom, while in front, the rolling hills stretch before you. Interiors meld old with new. Flagstone floors and antique furniture sit alongside steel ceiling pipes and geometric prints. As one would expect in a tower, there are several spiralling staircases – as well as gawp-worthy views. Push open the sliding doors in the grey, country-style kitchen and step out onto the terrace. A built-in barbecue and wrought-iron table overlook the Italian countryside, while a large vegetable garden and fruit trees provide the freshest ingredients. Continue down to find 1.5 hectares of garden with Etruscan origin and the swimming pool, which was once an agricultural fountain. Forget about any form of work, now all you have to worry about is which spot to pick around the water, with the rush of the nearby brook providing background music.
