It’s a short drive to Terni to explore ancient ruins and local cuisine in family-run restaurants and a traditional medieval hilltop town awaits at Todi nearby.

The first thing that catches the eye is the inviting, Roman-style swimming pool that looks out over the fauna-filled valley and patchwork fields to hazy hills in the distance. A loggia-style dining area houses a table for the group and a barbecue grill, all with that stunning view before you. Steal away to the olive grove and curl up in a hammock with a holiday read.

Inside, antique and vintage pieces throughout add to the old farmhouse feel of the home, alongside wooden ceilings and terracotta tiled floors. Location-wise, the small commune of Attigliano is a five-minute drive away, while Orvieto, Perugia, and Rome are all great day trip options.

New Perspective

It’s all about peace and seclusion at this Umbrian villa. On all sides, you’ve got a patchwork of rolling fields and acres of olive groves. Should you wish to discover a bit of Umbria on a day trip, the beautiful city of Orvieto is a short drive away – a shamble of ancient, ochre buildings sitting on a hilltop. However, days here can easily be spent without leaving the grounds.

The saline swimming pool is an inviting shade of turquoise, sitting against the Umbrian hills and surrounded by greenery. Beneath ancient olive and oak trees, you’ll find wooden tables for rustic lunches outdoors – perhaps cooked in the little stone building that’s been converted into a barbecue shed with a wood-fired oven. 

Beyond this villa's stone and wood-shuttered facade, you’ll find an ode to Umbrian tradition. An arched fireplace in the main living room harks back to days gone by while the worn terracotta bricks underfoot keep things cool. Wrought iron candelabra and wooden ceilings give a medieval feel to the huge sitting room in the annexe and there’s a small, book-lined living room for a quiet moment alone. Out in the rolling hills of Umbria, this pretty stone villa embraces the quiet, provincial life. It’s surrounded by two hectares of forest, olive groves and fieldland and the private gardens are alive with lavender and fragrant Mediterranean herbs. Between the plant life, there are sunloungers on lawns, a children’s play park and plenty of shaded spots beneath trees to settle down with a good book. Perhaps the crowning glory of the gardens is the turquoise swimming pool, shimmering in the Umbrian sunshine. Though foodies may argue it’s the rustic summer kitchen with its brick-built grill, stone sink and prep area for long, lazy lunches in the loggia outside.

The home is split between the main villa and a separate annexe, and large groups will find myriad sitting rooms and lounges to spread out. Smoke-blackened hearths speak of the home’s history and sitting rooms beneath wooden ceilings are home to antique furniture and little libraries of holiday reads. Should you wish to explore beyond the grounds, the pretty town of Todi is around three kilometres away. It’s picture-perfect, perched on a hilltop where rambling medieval streets house local trattoria and quaint little shops. This is where you can stock up on supplies at the supermarket too.

This glorious villa is ready to welcome you on an idyllic Italian lakeside break. Based just a short drive from the blue waters of Bolsena Lake, this 20th-century Italian farmhouse has been respectfully renovated to keep the original features that give this home its unique character – with exposed beams of chestnut wood, dramatic round vaults and beautiful terracotta floors. We love the contemporary, minimalist style that they’ve blended in with the retro feel, making the home feel absolutely charming.

We absolutely love the dining area, where you can feast on Italian suppers of soup and risotto all together. The Palazzo dei Papi is just fourteen minutes away, and is the former seat of the papacy. When you’ve had your fill of history, hop in the car and drive seven minutes to the hot springs. Soak away your troubles before returning to the apartment for another evening of blissful R&R.
