Spend your days taking dips in the swimming pool, and enjoy a barbecue on the terrace in the evening. You’ll wake up to stunning views of the Umbrian hills from the main villa's bedrooms, and if you're staying in the annexe, you can enjoy direct access to the garden from your room. Though it contains modern amenities, the home's style evokes forgotten centuries – wooden beams adorn the ceilings, and an ornate wood burner is the centrepiece of the living space. You could spend all your time at the villa, alternating between relaxing in the indoor and outdoor spaces, but don't miss your chance to explore the local area. Just a ten-minute drive away you'll find the beautiful town of Todi, where shopping, dining and tourist opportunities await. Sunflower Symposium

This home is part of a development of independently-owned cottages in the countryside that borders the Pescinello natural park. It’s a tranquil place to stay, ideal for those seeking an Italian stay that’s off the beaten track. The views are breath-taking, and each home – built from traditional Tuscan stone – has its own furnished outside space. Here, you can cook on the stone barbecue and dine alfresco. There’s also a communal outdoor pool. You’ll need a car to explore – we recommend driving 20 kilometres to Saturnia’s hot springs. 

Valley View Villa

Leave the real world behind and relive the grandeur of days gone by in this villa dating back to the 1600s. Once the home of wealthy landowners, it's been carefully restored to maintain its character and elegance, while making a few luxurious modern improvements. Within an easy drive of many of this region's major attractions, it's set on a peaceful estate with large private gardens. 

As soon as you drive up to the front, it's clear this imposing home is something very special indeed. Its arching windows, tower room and checkerboard terrace make this the quintessential Umbrian villa. And inside doesn't disappoint either, with frescoes, tiled floors and antique furnishings. There's a fabulous, professional-grade kitchen for whipping up meals both casual and formal, with the latter served in the grand dining hall with a series of tall French doors that open to the terrace.

Outside, the grounds are beautifully maintained, with cypress trees, lavender and rose borders surrounding the lawns. A large, pristine pool awaits, with sun loungers and a shaded poolside dining area that also boasts a bar. And there's a play area for the children, shaded by mature trees. 

Just a short drive from the stunning Marmore Falls, and with easy access to Todi, Spello, Orvieto and Spoleto, it's an area known for its fine wine and excellent food. The centre of Acquasparta is an eight-minute from the home and Terni is twenty minutes away.

Heraldic Crest

Arriving at this Umbrian villa, you wouldn’t think it was a new build – it’s got all the character and charm of an old, Italian farmhouse with brick-lined, arched windows and a terracotta roof. It’s built with local stone and embraces organic architecture. Blending in with its bucolic surroundings, it looks out over the Oasi di Alviano nature reserve – home to protected Umbrian flora and fauna. It’s a short drive to Terni to explore ancient ruins and local cuisine in family-run restaurants and a traditional medieval hilltop town awaits at Todi nearby.

The first thing that catches the eye is the inviting, Roman-style swimming pool that looks out over the fauna-filled valley and patchwork fields to hazy hills in the distance. A loggia-style dining area houses a table for the group and a barbecue grill, all with that stunning view before you. Steal away to the olive grove and curl up in a hammock with a holiday read.

Inside, antique and vintage pieces throughout add to the old farmhouse feel of the home, alongside wooden ceilings and terracotta tiled floors. A huge double-sided fireplace sits between the dining and living room for cosy evenings in. The view from the arched window in here is simply sublime – framed like a picture on the exposed stone wall. Up on a mezzanine level, you’ll find a secluded little reading nook to hide away in.  

New Old World

Nestled in the Valnerina Valley and surrounded by greenery, you'll find this gorgeous villa. With plenty of traditional touches and a truly peaceful ambiance, it's the ideal place to press pause on everyday life and recharge your batteries. 

As your car approaches the house, you'll notice the forest green shutters and flat roof that is typical of this area. Inside, there are terracotta tiled floors, wooden beams, and plenty of antique furnishings that add a rustic charm to the space. The dining room, with its vaulted ceiling and chandeliers, is especially grand, and is a great place to serve up a lavish home-cooked meal. And the outdoor space is just as impressive, with a sparkling swimming pool, grassy lawns, and an outdoor entertaining space where you can barbeque up a feast on balmy evenings. 

Lovers of the great outdoors can take their pick of adventures in the surrounding countryside. You can go rafting, canoeing, or kayaking in the Nera River – or if you'd prefer to stay on dry land then there are plenty of hiking and cycling trails through the epic landscapes. And, if you're a culture fan, then you can head to the city of Spoleto, famous for its medieval fortress and Roman amphitheatre – it's just a fifteen-minute drive away. 

Grapes on the Vine

A marigold marvel against the sapphire sky and green lawn that surrounds it, this home in Italy’s Lazio region looks portrait-perfect in all its colourful glory. Inside, arched stained glass doorways combine with an effusion of art, artisanal ceramics, exposed beam ceilings and terracotta tiles to create a kaleidoscope of colours and textures that dazzle as the sunlight pours through the chestnut wood windows and French doors on each side. Wake up in the comfortable bedrooms, enjoy your morning coffee on the terrace or catch up on some work – if you must – in the elegant, book-lined office. Spend the afternoon taking cool dips in the pool, soaking up the sun in the hammock and letting your competitive side out in a game or two of ping pong. With a playhouse and slide in the large garden too, there’s more than enough to keep all ages entertained. After a day of lounging in your own private oasis or driving ten minutes to Civita Castellana, known for its beautiful ceramics, come back home for drinks by the flower-filled stone fountain. Then fire up the wood-burning oven and the brick-built barbecue for a memorable alfresco dinner. 

Living In Colour

This traditional villa is ideal for those keen to explore Umbria’s medieval towns and countryside. Charming Montecchio and Guardea are a short drive away, while Terni is a great day trip destination. We think you’ll spend most of your days outside here, thanks to the manicured gardens, swimming pool and tennis court. There’s also a patio for meals in the sunshine and a loggia for evening drinks. Inside, the place is comfortable and furnished with antique pieces – there are, as you'd expect, signs of age and use.

Gilded Heart

Situated on an estate dedicated to organic farming, this villa is surrounded by the Umbrian countryside. In the summer, take advantage of the private pool. Come dinnertime, tuck into an alfresco meal on the terrace, made using homegrown produce straight from the farm. The interior design blends the old with the new. It's a little dated, but it doesn't lack charm – or, for that matter, space, thanks to a collection of cosy en-suite bedrooms. When you're ready to venture out, the cliff-top city of Orvieto is a short drive away. Your host also provides complimentary bikes for you to explore the area.
