In a building that dates from the 18th century, it actually comprises two apartments – a one-bedroom and a two-bedroom, set across four floors. Steep, narrow stairs lead up to the cool, whitewashed attic rooms or down to the converted cellars – bursting with character and authentic charm. The two flats have their own living spaces, and one boasts a small balcony while the other has a dining spot on a rooftop terrace. With hundreds of years of history in its walls, we love the rustic look of its vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and bare stone walls. But that's not to say this place is all about the past. You just need to look in the modern, stainless steel kitchens and admire the mix of antiques and contemporary furniture to see this home has all the comforts of modern-day living. Head to the nearby natural pools of Laghetti di Pietrabruna for a wild swim, buy local farm produce or drive to the beach – the choice is yours.

Found in the small town of Cisano sul Neva, this home is ideal for those months when the temperature starts to rise. The interior feels cooling thanks to the tiling underfoot and the large doorways that let a breeze circulate inside when opened. There's also plenty of shade to be found even when the sun's at its highest — a covered terrace will play host to many a languorous lunch, while the flourishing garden offers plenty of secluded spots for an afternoon nap. That being said, there are enough perks inside the four walls if you're coming during the autumn and winter. An upright piano in the living room will keep musical guests occupied, while the hydro-massage bath requires no such talent to enjoy — just sit back and let the bubbles do their work. The local town and its pretty churches take fifteen minutes to reach on foot, while the seaside town of Albenga can be reached in the same amount of time in the car.

Nestled on a mountainside above the historic town of Vence, this home offers a peaceful retreat with breathtaking views of the Côte d'Azur. Ideal for extended family or a group of friends, it’s impossible not to relax here. But for us, the cherry on top is the outdoor space. We love the private pool, secret dining spots, and, of course, those views that stretch for miles. If they tempt you away from home, it’s a mere three kilometres down the mountain to Vence, where a host of French eateries await, or you can pop to the daily market for some local produce to cook at home.

This contemporary apartment is all about the location for us. There’s secure parking here, but if you don’t fancy driving on holiday, a car isn’t necessary. Many local hotspots are within walking distance and Antibes train station is a mere five-minute stroll away for adventures further afield in the Côte d'Azur. Walk to Old Antibes, the Picasso Museum or Gravette beach – there’s something for everyone here. And when dinner is calling, head to Juan-les-Pins. A stroll down the seafront promenade, lined with French eateries, awaits. 

French Love Affair

Roughly hewn stone, exposed brickwork and tumbling terraces all give the impression this rambling rural retreat has been carved from the Ligurian hillside itself. If you’re looking for somewhere with character, this surely must be it. The layout is a little quirky — the only way to get upstairs is via a stone staircase outside the building — but this only adds to the charm of the place. Delightful stone archways reveal yet another hidden terrace or quiet nook to catch up on that holiday paperback, while grotto-like bathrooms and a cute mezzanine bedroom for the kids add a fairytale quality to the experience. Yet for all its tucked away spaces, this semi-detached home has plenty of opportunities for the more sociable among you. We can see the polished kitchen table becoming the hub of the house — somewhere to gather the grown-ups and bambini alike for a delicious Italian feast while you plan your next sun-soaked day in the hills. Then there’s the sun deck with its outdoor dining area and barbecue, not to mention the pretty garden with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside — best admired from a lounger with a cool glass in hand. Privacy, seclusion and utter relaxation is the order of the day here. Indulge in a lazy lie-in (the bedrooms are beautiful rustic affairs — think exposed wooden beams, ornate bedsteads and fluttering curtains). When the sun rises over the olive groves, dive into the private swimming pool and enjoy a moment while the kids burn off some energy in the playground or challenge each other to a game of table football. There’s a supermarket and restaurant within a few minutes drive, so you can stock up on supplies for your next pasta-based extravaganza. Or take a road trip to explore the surrounding area — it’s a short drive to the nearest town and you can be at the beach within half an hour. Our suitcases are packed already!

This apartment has a great location, just a ten-minute stroll from the beach, the old town of Antibes, the Picasso Museum and the Port Vauban. Other attractions include the chic resort of Juan-les-Pins, known for its stylish restaurants and fashion boutiques, a twenty-minute walk away. Back at this modern apartment, which is above a shop, there are views over the city from the social open-plan living space and balcony. It’s a central spot, so you’ll have some street noise here, but you have everything virtually on your doorstep.

Situated in starry Cap d'Antibes, close to Cannes, this glamorous villa has been built with the summer sunshine in mind. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the living space with light, with a double-height lounge where you can socialise together as a group, or spend some time solo with a good book. The modern artworks and minimalist interiors are très chic, but the breathtaking view over the Mediterranean sea is what really turns heads. Head outside to find enough space for the whole group to hang out as they enjoy the coastal vistas – lounge by the pool during the day, organise sundowners on the terrace, or soak in the hot tub underneath the stars. For a final flourish, there's a downstairs, partly open-air kitchen with a barbecue, blender and other equipment to help you create an alfresco feast of fresh seafood and local produce that will wow your guests.

Bright and vibrant, this home’s blend of quirky and elegant decor makes it beautiful to look at but also a ton of fun to inhabit. Can you picture yourself here, nursing cups of coffee under the glamorous chandelier in the kitchen? There’s a distinctly provincial feel to this villa in the southern French countryside. The charming village of St Paul De Vence is walkable and Nice is an easy drive away. With a private swimming pool surrounded by greenery, loads of furnished patios and terraces, and a fully-equipped summer kitchen, it’s clear this place is designed for days outdoors in the southern sun. It’s naturally cool inside, thanks to the open living areas connected by archways and tiled floors underfoot. The cellar-like stocked bar is a nice surprise. Plus, there’s an exercise room for morning workouts. Bedrooms are split between a main villa and two dependences.

At this heavenly waterfront home in Cap d’Antibes, relax in style surrounded by the sights and sounds of the sea. Inside, white-washed walls, sharp black accents and smooth grey tiles create a modern Mediterranean ambience in the living room space. Upstairs, you’ll find each room has its own story to tell with a plethora of unique details such as curved window frames, a rock wall installation and colourful tiles. 

We can’t decide which we love more – the roof terrace for alfresco dining or the outdoor swimming pool, perfect for a refreshing swim at daybreak. Though it’s tempting to spend your afternoons lounging on the balcony beguiled by the ocean views, we recommend taking the leisurely thirty-minute wander into the old town of Antibes – the Musée Picasso is well worth a visit – or strolling along Salis Beach, a mere ten minutes from your doorstep.

Formerly an olive farm, this villa was converted into an aristocrat’s home the 18th century, and has recently been restored to all its former grandeur, with some added modern comforts. It’s totally charming: the butter yellow exteriors are complimented by forest green shutters, and on one side there’s a tower rising three floors high. The interiors are typified by their old world charm: high ceilings, antique french tiled floors, duck egg blue curtains and oil paintings make the living space a cosy place to relax. The modern, fully renovated kitchen has two sliding glass doors leading to an al fresco table, which is the perfect spot to enjoy home cooked delights on sunny days. 

The villa is in a private and serene area on a hilltop, surrounded by two hectares of fragrant landscaped gardens, featuring numerous terraces, centennial olive trees, cypresses, and oleanders that lead up to a woodland. Wander down one of the paths to admire panoramic views of the Saint-Véran Forest, the Alps and the sea. 

Stroll fifteen minutes down to old Villeneuve-Loubet, a charming Provencal village for coffee and pastries in the morning, before coming home for a dip in the pool. On sunny days, hop in the car and drive fifteen minutes to your pick of sandy beaches along the coastline, before lunch at a seafront restaurant. You’ll want to make it back home for sunset, for drinks on the terrace as the land turns golden. On warm evenings, light the candles at the poolside table and enjoy dinner beneath the stars.

That would be a shame, as it's a charming home – spread over three floors, you can easily find a spot to tuck yourself away with a glass of red. When it's time to branch out, you'll find several rustic restaurants nearby in Vence, and Nice is just a forty-minute drive away.

It's hard to know where to start when talking about our favourite things about this magnificent holiday home on France's captivating Cote d'Azur. 

Of course, the meticulously finished, thoughtfully decorated interior is among its many highlights – providing a setting that is at once comfortable and luxurious, whilst also feeling relaxed and homely and exuding a certain beguiling, understated rustic elegance. Step outside, and you're sure to find the exterior areas of this home truly exquisite. With loads of inviting spaces to sit and enjoy a drink while taking in the splendour of your surroundings, the hardest thing will be deciding exactly where to park yourself for an hour or two. Then there's the wonderful location amid a quiet, leafy area in Saint-Paul, one of the area's most sought-after locations. Nestled on the edge of an untamed forest on a large plot of around 5000 square metres filled with fruit trees, palms, and flowers, the feeling here is more of being on a private estate than simply a villa. 

Spend your days here exploring the expansive grounds within and beyond the property's perimeters. Anyone for a spot of tennis? If so, you needn't leave the grounds. The same goes should you want to while away an hour or two with a game of boules, or if you simply fancy a dip in the pool before drying off in the sun, lazing on one of the loungers in the afternoon warmth. 

Or, take the roughly 35-minute stroll into the old town of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, where you will find bundles of quintessentially southern French charm, fantastic restaurants serving the finest local cuisine, and one winding cobbled laneway prettier than the last within the old city walls. For something a little more upmarket, or to mark a special occasion, there are several (that's right, several) Michelin-star restaurants reachable with just a short drive.

For those with a taste for the archetypal French Riviera, the effortlessly chic town of Nice, perched on the glittering waters of the Mediterranean, is just a 25-minute drive away. Now, that's enough to make anyone say Bon Voyage.
