Located on the edge of Lake Como, this historic home welcomes you to an atmospheric waterfront escape. Combining tradition and contemporary comfort, the rooms are well suited to groups in search of ease and relaxation. Highlights include the sweet little balcony and the views, plus your host can arrange welcome packs and housekeeping. It’s worth noting the stairs do not have a handrail so this may not be the best option for families with young children, but you will find this is a great base for a lakeside adventure. From here, it’s a short stroll to cafes, bars and restaurants, while the ferry is just 400 metres away.

To say the views of Lake Como seen from this apartment are remarkable is an understatement. It’s a panorama best admired from the private wraparound balcony or the complex's shared poolside. Inside, the open-plan living and kitchen isn’t the most palatial, and that canary yellow bedroom might be too perky for some. That said, it’s all beautifully cared for and perfect for a small family sharing. Nestled in the quaint village of Perledo, you’ve got all of Lake Como’s best bits within easy reach, starting with Varenna, just a short drive away. Or hop on the nearby ferry to other hotspots including Lecco, Bergamo, and Milan.

This apartment will be an irresistible option for those in search of impressive views of Lake Como. The central location is equally appealing – making it easy to walk to the nearest beach (Molo di sotto), set sail on boat trips and savour delicious Italian meals in local restaurants. Back at home, you can unwind on the little balcony or in the living room. At full occupancy, two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed, but this is a great option for families in search of simplicity and comfort. Let’s talk about that view. There’s nothing better than sitting out on the sunny wrought-iron balcony and gazing out over the azure water of Lake Como, flanked dramatically by forest-green mountains. While the home offers everything you could need for a relaxing stay, the stand-out for us is the outdoor space. From the private balcony, you can drink in views of Lake Como – just the spot for a morning coffee or evening limoncello. And if that doesn’t tick all your holiday boxes, there’s a communal swimming pool to enjoy here too, perfect to beat the heat of the day.

We defy anyone to look through this home's photos and not feel instantly at ease. It's something to do with the ample amounts of space, cleansing white walls and large arched windows that look out over rooftops and also flood the interior with sunshine.

The design is definitely sparse, although we think there are enough personal touches to ward off accusations of anonymity. The floral-style lampshade in the bedroom is eye-catching and we also like the vintage travel adverts hanging in frames on the wall.

However, don't be surprised if you don't actually spend all too much time in the apartment. The home's position in the Mezzegra region is simply gorgeous, helped by the fact that the banks of Lake Como can be reached in five minutes' walk. Villa del Balbianello takes forty-five minutes to reach on foot, while you catch a ferry to the town of Bellagio in just over an hour.

Enjoy timeless charm at this historic lakeside retreat. This beautiful home sits on the shores of Lake Como and boasts wonderful views, to be enjoyed from inside and out, thanks to large windows in almost every room. The house is surrounded by a private park planted with an olive grove, bamboo forest, azaleas, and acacias. There’s a barbecue and a shaded dining area outside, and a stunning kitchen at the heart of the home – and your host can arrange a private chef. The year-round-heated pool, gym, and tennis court mean there’s no chance of boredom here.

Shops, restaurants, and the train station are also nearby, putting you in a prime position to explore both near and far. While the fuss-free interiors aren't the most exciting, we think this is a practical option for families and friends. The balcony is a lovely spot to relax with a glass of wine – even if it's overlooked a bit by neighbours – and the kitchen is a decent size if you want to prepare meals at home. With the double sofa bed in use, space will be tight, so we think it's best suited for four.

Though compact, this home promises comfort through thoughtful design and contemporary decor. There’s an inner courtyard filled with fragrant jasmine and Italian herbs off the kitchen too. You can also take in the vistas from the floor-to-ceiling windows in the split-level open-plan living space and the bedrooms which all have en-suites. When you want to explore, Ossuccio with its pretty pastel houses is nearby. Stay here and you’re sure to create unforgettable memories.

The Melody of Como

After being occupied by the same family for five generations, this home lay uninhabited for several decades before it was treated to a complete renovation. Today, the thought that this remarkable home lay unappreciated for so long makes us slightly sad.

The views alone are worth a stay here. From the two terraces, you get a sensational panorama of Lake Como, the mountains surrounding the waters and some of the local area's spectacular buildings, like Villa Balbianello. With a pair of loungers and an alfresco dining table, you can pass hours upon hours with this backdrop for company.

Back inside the home, some period features, like the exposed brickwork, have been tastefully retained, while many of the more modern additions are vintage in style, such as the copper bathtub in one of the bedrooms, the tiled flooring and the mighty wooden dining table. The kitchen is as contemporary as they come, however.

The local village of Mezzegra on your doorstep has restaurants, a bakery and a handful of historic churches to wander between. The banks of the lake can also be reached in ten minutes on foot, while Monte Crocione sits behind the property if you're up for a challenge.

Petite and pretty, you'll find this home right on the edge of Lake Como, near the centre of Tremezzo. It's ideal for couples or very small families who are looking for some peace and quiet to enjoy this idyllic corner of Italy.

Mix an Aperol Spritz and head out to the patio to enjoy your apperitif in the fresh air with a view of the lake – your host will even provide comfortable deckchairs and tables. If you need to catch up on emails then there's a dedicated workspace, and at the end of the day you'll love curling up in the perfect pink bedroom. 

You can walk to the centre of Tremezzo and the famous Villa Carlotta in only eight minutes from here, and you're also close to Scalo di Villa Carlotta ferry landing, which can take you around the lake to several points of interest. Plus, the city centre of Como is around a forty-minute drive away – visit the cathedral and wander along the promenade before you hop on the funicular railway for an excellent view.

Set across three floors, the rooms are ideal for families and groups in search of character and simple charm. There are two living rooms and each of the bedrooms comes with an en-suite bathroom and beautiful views. Outside, the terrace makes it easy to enjoy social gatherings and you’ll find plenty to explore in the surroundings. Take a stroll through Lenno or adventure further afield towards Tremezzo and Argegno.

The tight geometric lines of this home may seem incongruous against Lake Como’s lush natural landscape, but reserve judgment until you’ve come inside. As soon as you step into the living space, we’re sure you’ll agree that the stark decor and modernist architecture perfectly frames the view of the lake and the island of Comocina available from every window. Run by a local family, everything in this home is geared towards your enjoyment from the luxurious bedding to the fireplace which lights up dark evenings. Relax in the private infinity pool with the scent of jasmine and lavender drifting up from the garden overlooking what is, in our not-so-humble opinion, the best view in the whole region.

Inside, the home doesn’t try to compete with the beauty outdoors, with simple interiors offering a comfortable stay for extended families or groups of friends. But the cherry on the cake? It has to be the outdoor space. An expansive terrace offers alfresco dining opportunities and views across Lake Como, while the Jacuzzi is just the spot for relaxing after a busy day. And with bikes and kayaks available here, exploring the local area comes easily.

The views of Lake Como from this home are simply gorgeous – we could sit on the balcony here gazing out over the gently rippling water to the mountains for hours. You can enjoy the incredible vistas from the terrace too, where you can relax on the sun loungers or dine alfresco. Whip up some tortelli di zucca in the sleek, dove grey kitchen for dinner. On chilly evenings gather around the fire or get some rest in the stylish bedrooms with their ornate wallpaper. 

Situated in Argegno, there are a range of eateries within a five-minute walk. Further afield, the alpine city of Lecco, with its splendid Basilica di San Nicolò, is eleven minutes in the car. Or walk the trails of the stunning Monte Barro Regional Park, a sixteen-minute drive from this lovely home.

If you feel like exploring, charming Bellagio is a twenty-three-minute drive away. Weave through the tangle of cobbled streets, dipping in and out of artisanal boutiques before stopping for an Aperol in waterfront bars to catch the sunset.
