This contemporary home was designed by a creative architect and features a large terrace stretching around half the apartment. Your host can provide free baby equipment and pets are welcome, making it an ideal choice for families. While there is the potential for some noise from other residents of the building, you'll have space to sit outside with an alfresco meal or drink and look out toward the glittering Lake Lugano. Up to four people can be comfortably accommodated here, with two of the guests choosing between either a double sofa bed or two pull-down bunk beds that emerge from the wall, with two further guests in the tranquil main bedroom.

A compact kitchen contains everything you might need to whip up apres-ski sustenance sat around the dining table before exploring the traffic-free streets in the centre of the resort, a couple of kilometres up the road – with a free ski bus linking the town. Interestingly, the area has held duty-free status since the 16th century, meaning your money goes that bit further.

The area is fast establishing itself as one of the most exciting resorts in Italy and is set to host some of the 2026 Winter Olympics. Easily accessible slopes for all levels of snow sports enthusiast make Livigno a fun option for families and mixed-ability groups.

Spoiler alert – you’ve got far-reaching views of the slopes and Alpine ski runs from the breakfast table of this chic apartment, so you know exactly what’s in store each day. It’s on the outskirts of Livigno where gondolas and ski lifts await to whisk you up the mountainside. A heated ski locker can keep your ski boots and salopettes warm and dry, ready for another day on the powder. In summer, the hiking trails up into the Alps reward with stunning views and you can fuel up for big walks with a view of an Alpine meadow, thanks to a stone-built barbecue and dining area in the vast garden. Even in winter, the first-floor balcony catches the sunshine – perfect for toasting the mountains with a sundowner. 

Heading inside, the first thing that caught our attention was the picture-frame window by the dining table, framing the mountain view like a work of art. The sitting room is tucked in a cosy little wood-clad corner for that cabin-chic feel and long windows let the sunlight stream in. A sleek black kitchen hides everything you need for apres-ski meals and morning coffees before the slopes. Bedrooms are tucked beneath wooden ceilings across both floors and the added bonus is the steam room for sore muscles.

This seventeenth-century palace by Lake Orta delivers the ultimate five-star experience. It underwent a total refurbishment recently and while the original architecture has been restored, luxurious finishes and modern comforts have been introduced in all its spaces. Expect open fireplaces, coffered ceilings, incredible original art and designer furniture throughout. Every bedroom and its en-suite are of an equally high standard so all guests are guaranteed a memorable stay. Other highlights include the heated indoor pool and spa, the library and music room, and you can't possibly miss the wonderful views across the lake from the top floor. This bright and modern studio situated in the picturesque town of Lugano is a great place for a couple or a solo traveller to base themselves while they make the most of all that this beautiful Italian-speaking region of Switzerland has to offer. 

While the studio is compact in size, it has all the comforts to make your time a relaxing one – not to mention all the shared facilities which are definitely an added perk. Arrive to be greeted by a light-filled open-plan space, with a huge sofa which easily transforms into a plush double bed. There’s also a dining table for two, perfect for those romantic suppers which you’ll be able to easily rustle up in the well-equipped kitchen area. In case you don’t feel like cooking, there’s also a restaurant and bar downstairs. Later you may want to step outside onto the balcony and share some wine – this is also a great spot for a morning coffee with a view over the mountains. 

Outside you’ll be close to the vibrant Piazza Della Riforma, the heart of the city, which you can reach in twenty minutes by walking – the same amount of time it'll take you to get to the shores of the lake. You’ll also find a charming local farmers’ market offering the best fresh produce. For business travellers, the apartment is just an eleven-minute walk from the Centro Esposizioni Lugano exhibition centre and an eighteen-minute walk from the Palazzo Dei Congressi Lugano.

Modern, bright and beautiful as it is, nothing's going to beat the outdoor area here. With ample seating, including an alfresco dining table under a flowering pergola, looking out over the glistening lake, you can see why this one made our collection. We also like the bathtub facing the door so you can even admire the views from inside. Because of the perched location of this home, you'll have to climb steps up to it, but it'll all be worth it for the breathtaking panorama of Lake Como. The location is great for strolls along the shore and the funicular to the village of Brunate is nearby, making exploring easy. This home is also very close to the centre of Como with its shops, restaurants, and landmarks.

We think you'd be hard-pressed to find a snazzy, modern home like this with better views of the Swiss alps. From the garden they're truly panoramic and this place has been designed to make the most of them – with window walls, sliding doors and a wraparound terrace. Come summer or winter, this ground floor apartment is an idyllic jumping off point to explore the stunning region, either on one of the many nearby hiking trails or on the ski slopes. Enjoy a lunchtime barbecue, and tuck into a dinner of fondue or raclette. If your muscle are aching from all the hiking or skiing, take some time out and head to the sauna.

This stylish little apartment has everything you need for a break by the lake in Lugano. A studio space, it’s ideal for a couple or solo traveller looking for a stylish bolthole in one of Switzerland’s prettiest towns. Stroll twenty minutes to reach the lake, sparking and inviting you for a dip in the summer months. Twenty-five minutes sees you at the pavement cafés and bars of Piazza della Riforma for aperitivo (this is a Swiss-Italian town). 

Back at the apartment building, head to the shared gym for a workout session, or perhaps catch up on work in one of the communal working spaces. Then retreat to the privacy of your apartment where a kitchenette provides the basics if you’re not dining out. Stone floors and a pistachio-green feature wall keep things characterful. This contemporary apartment is located in Via Tommaso Grossi in Como, offering panoramic views of the city and lake from the communal rooftop terrace. We love the sleek interiors of this home, which provides a comfortable stay for a family or group of friends. Just note – as a party of five, two people will draw the short straw and sleep on the sofa bed in the living room. Still, it’s a sacrifice we’d be willing to make for this pad’s enviable location. If the views tempt you out for a meander, you’ll find Como at your feet just waiting to be explored.

If you’re seeking the kind of serenity that comes from enjoying far-reaching views across a glassy lake, this could be the home for you. As you’d expect with a studio, space is limited here, but it’s a cosy place for two. And, step out into the garden, and you can while away the hours drinking in the vistas over a bottle of wine. The kitchenette is ideal for basic food, but for a substantial meal full of authentic Italian flavours, head to one of the many local restaurants in Laglio for a dinner to remember.

The owners have poured their heart and soul into a sympathetic restoration that makes a deliberate feature of some of the more patinated interior elements. In particular, double-height, frescoed ceilings draw the eye upward in the spacious and comfortable living room with beautiful mouldings on the walls and its two gorgeous bedrooms – undoubtedly the home's standout rooms.

The city of Como is a fantastic place to base yourself to explore some of the small lakeside settlements. It boasts a vibrant atmosphere, outstanding eateries and bougie boutiques, all within a stone's throw of your front door. Stroll a short distance to the harbour, where local ferries depart for the likes of Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio. In addition, active types might want to head into the mountains for scenic hikes, where each turn reveals ever more spectacular views.

We were sold on those views of Lake Maggiore alone – and that was before we'd even clapped eyes on the panoramic sunny terrace and newly refurbished interiors of this townhouse. As we're finickity, the downstairs living space feels a little bijou, but with that covered panoramic balcony outside, we don't think you'll mind. And kids will love the novelty of the top-floor mezzanine bedroom with a TV den to spill out into. Perched amidst the hillsides, 700 metres above the lake, you're quietly removed from the bustle. But when it's time to dip your toes into lakeside living, Stresa's grand promenades and history-rich streets bustling with trattorias are just a five-minute drive away.

Just a five-minute walk (or a quick bus trip) from the centre of this prestigious ski village, this immaculate apartment has class written all over it. Part of a traditional-style chalet, it's warm, cosy and the host has thought of everything to make your stay a delight. From the Adirondack chairs on the wrap-around balcony you can gaze across rooftops, hills and snow-covered pines all the way to the Silvretta glacier. If you're here to ski, which is most likely, you can walk to the Gotschna cable car in about seven minutes – and choose to leave your kit either down there or in the boot room of your building. Inside, it's chocolate-box pretty, with a beautiful log fireplace, comfy soft furnishings and a huge corner sofa to relax on – all the while taking in that view. South facing and flooded with natural light, it's a bright and uplifting place to call home. Keen cooks will be pleased to note the kitchen has only the finest appliances and there's a sociable round dining table to spend your evenings sitting around with friends or family.

The central location is equally appealing – making it easy to walk to the nearest beach (Molo di sotto), set sail on boat trips and savour delicious Italian meals in local restaurants.
