You'll find that there's an innate tranquillity to this home in the middle of the Piedmont countryside. How best to enjoy this peace and quiet? Well, the swimming pool will be the obvious choice during the warmer months, but there are plenty of equally pleasant spots out in the garden or under the pergola.

If the temperature ever takes a dip at any point, the table in the conservatory still gives you the opportunity to watch the world go by, while there's also an open-hearth fireplace to light up once the sun's gone down. Recently renovated, the home is a brand new barn conversion with its own spacious garden, swimming pool and outdoor lounge areas. The barn was designed to transition with the changing seasons in mind, and so feels light and airy during the warm summer months, yet warm and cosy come winter. Light up the log fire burner in the humble living room when it's cold and open up the floor-to-ceiling windows to let the fresh air in when it's hot. The open-plan living area will ensure a sociable stay from the inside, while the large terrace with a dining table and chairs serve perfectly for those long summer evenings of dining alfresco. There is also a relaxing corner under the pergola, where you can lounge around come day or night – it's the perfect spot to find some shade or watch the sunset. With Turin just an hours drive away, you're secluded and out of the action at this retreat in Sanico, however, feel rest assured that you're not too far away from the city's sights should you wish to explore further afield. 



Over the Rolling Hills

Surrounded by rolling meadows and snaking vineyards, this eclectic home with its Rococo-inspired living space and convenient modern additions ensures a memorable yet restful stay in the Asti countryside. You’ll begin warm mornings in the kitchen, putting together a breakfast platter as your loved ones await eagerly around the dining table. Then it’s all off to the communal pool for a splash about in the cool water followed by a coffee or two in the shade of the covered terrace. 

In the afternoon, jump in the car and take the five-minute drive to the charming town of Cortazzone or why not head over to Turin, less than an hour’s drive away – the superb cuisine, Baroque architecture, elegant-tree lined boulevards and gianduiotto chocolate shops guarantee a day well spent.

We love this coastal villa with its bold mix of classic Italian and Asian-influenced design. The living room has beautiful parquet flooring, polished to a high, mirror-like shine. Dotted around the space you’ll find a bright red lacquered chest and an intricate Chinese cabinet. The walls are decorated with Japanese fans, while a vibrant red feature wall lights up one end like the rising sun. Alongside these treasures sit classic Italian furniture and artworks – it shouldn’t work, but somehow it really does. Meanwhile, the kitchen feels 100% vintage Italian with copper pans lining the walls and retro coffee pots. The outside terrace has sweeping views of the coast and the shining sea beyond, and there’s a barbecue area with shady outside seating. The beautiful gardens that surround the villa, along with the outdoor swimming pool, are shared with a couple of neighbouring villas.

This renovated farmhouse caught our eye for its huge garden. Boasting a private pool, covered alfresco dining area, and outdoor hob and barbeque, outdoor living is easy here. The bedroom set up won’t suit everyone – at full occupancy three guests will be sleeping on sofa beds within two of the bedrooms – and the traditional decor won’t be to everyone’s tastes, but we think this home will suit a family or group of friends looking for a place with character. Location-wise, you’re a few minutes’ drive from the Royal Castle of Racconigi – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and for daytrips, the city of Turin is thirty minutes away.

The Ancient Farmhouse

Spend memorable summer days at this refurbished Italian farmhouse. It's uniquely split into separate suites, so it's ideal for big groups who want to maintain their own peace and quiet. Swim a few laps of the private pool in the morning, surrounded by the tall cypresses, colourful hedges and roses in the lush gardens. In the afternoon, have an alfresco lunch under the pergola in this fairytale setting, or head to the terrace for an even better vantage point. If you fancy a workout, there's even a pilates room, where you can work up a sweat, provided you arrange for an instructor to come along. The vineyard-covered hills above Canelli are renowned for producing world-class wine, and there’s no better time to sample a local vintage than when the sun starts to dip over Piedmont’s iconic hills. At night, unwind in the jacuzzi as stars fill the sky, before heading indoors to sleep soundly in one of the gorgeous wood-panelled bedrooms. We love the mix of rustic furnishings interspersed with modern kitchens and sleek bathrooms—you’ll be very comfortable here without sacrificing an iota of charm.

This countryside villa is only an hour and a half from Milan, but it feels a world away.
