This restored 16th-century villa is full of history and character. Groups will have no shortage of space inside – there are two cosy lounges, a games room tucked under the stone arches, and a separate apartment ideal for guests wanting a bit more privacy. Outdoors, the sprawling garden beckons on a sunny day. Everyone will appreciate the private pool and valley views, while keen cooks can whip up something tasty to enjoy on one of the terraces. Location-wise, you'll be based in the scenic Monferrato hills. It's about an hour's drive from Milan and close to Alessandria and Asti – perfect for exploring.

Monferrato Magic

Deep within the green Ligurian hills behind the famous Cinque Terre (a 35-kilometre drive away), this villa offers an escape from it all. After exploring the surrounding scenery by bike or on foot, you can kick back by the poolside, play games on vast lawns or gather for alfresco feasts on the covered barbecue terrace. This place consists of two separate villas, each with its own open kitchen, living and dining room for social evenings together. The traditional feel of some of the furnishings and bathrooms won’t be for everyone, but the vast, manicured space outside makes up for it. 

Enchanting Bliss

Found in the small town of Cisano sul Neva, this home is ideal for those months when the temperature starts to rise. The interior feels cooling thanks to the tiling underfoot and the large doorways that let a breeze circulate inside when opened. There's also plenty of shade to be found even when the sun's at its highest — a covered terrace will play host to many a languorous lunch, while the flourishing garden offers plenty of secluded spots for an afternoon nap. That being said, there are enough perks inside the four walls if you're coming during the autumn and winter. An upright piano in the living room will keep musical guests occupied, while the hydro-massage bath requires no such talent to enjoy — just sit back and let the bubbles do their work. The local town and its pretty churches take fifteen minutes to reach on foot, while the seaside town of Albenga can be reached in the same amount of time in the car.

Stream of Consciousness

You'll find that there's an innate tranquillity to this home in the middle of the Piedmont countryside. How best to enjoy this peace and quiet? Well, the swimming pool will be the obvious choice during the warmer months, but there are plenty of equally pleasant spots out in the garden or under the pergola.

If the temperature ever takes a dip at any point, the table in the conservatory still gives you the opportunity to watch the world go by, while there's also an open-hearth fireplace to light up once the sun's gone down. This rather traditional source of warmth is in keeping with the home's rustic style, as seen with the exposed stonework and country-style kitchen.

Although you're more than welcome to never leave the address during your stay, the closest town, Vesime, takes five minutes to reach in the car and offers an outdoor swimming pool and a castle to explore. The city of Acqui Terme is half an hour's drive, too.

Arrive at this impressive home, situated on a picturesque hill, and be instantly transported to another time. This country estate, surrounded by vineyards and rolling fields of greenery, is steeped in the rich history of the region. 

Even before entering, you’ll be embraced by the warm vibes of the house and its large garden, and the views of the countryside and the Castello di Frinco will take your breath away. You’ll also have plenty of activities to enjoy out here: from a barbecue and outdoor dining area, perfect for those alfresco meals,  to a hot tub, outdoor shower and comfy sunloungers, dotted about under the ancient trees which on hot summer days offer glorious shade. 

Step through the front door to find a truly stunning, authentic interior: we love the brick walls, original wooden ceiling and floors, and countless quint details which add to the cosy ambience. You’ll find the space here more than generous – from the large dining room, where you can enjoy those delicious Italian feats, to the plush sofas and armchairs where you can snuggle up with a glass of wine for an evening of movies and conversation. 

Upstairs, you’ll enter into the world of sweet dreams, courtesy of the opulent, plush bedrooms, offering soft beds and those charming ceilings with wooden beams. Start your day rested and refreshed, sipping a cup of Italian espresso on the balcony, and taking in the instantly calming views. 

When you’re ready to go out and explore, the area has plenty in store for you: from wine tasting and vineyard touring, to visiting the historical monuments and charming streets of Asti, Casale Monferrato, Alba, La Morra and Barolo - all within easy reach by car. For a perfect day trip head to Savona and its gorgeous beaches, just a thirty-minute drive away.

This charming apartment is located in a quiet residential area of Avegno, Liguria. The apartment has a separate entrance, a private terrace with sea views, a kitchenette, a living room with a sofa bed and a dining table, a master bedroom with a walk-in closet and a bathroom with a bathtub and shower. The apartment also has a swimming pool for exclusive use.

Belvedere's View

This painter's home is a delight for lovers of art and antiques. It's actually made up of two individual houses, one with a double bedroom and a twin bedroom, and the other with three double bedrooms. You can spend mornings painting in the studio, afternoons cooling off in the pool, and evenings dining at the indoor or outdoor dining tables. Don't feel like cooking? The local trattoria delivers fresh, authentic meals. The location is perfect for joining local hiking routes, touring vineyards and visiting Piedmontese villages like Acqui Terme, which is only a fifteen-minute drive away.

Foodie's Paradise

Enjoy an idyllic Italian getaway at this gorgeous traditional villa, providing glorious views of the Gulf of Poets and the leafy Ligurian countryside. Sitting up on an elevated position just outside La Spezia, and surrounded by olive groves, this home is the perfect peaceful retreat for when you want to explore the hills and valleys of rural Italy.

Inside, you'll find beautiful farmhouse interiors that have an almost fairytale feel, with original features that have been recently restored, along with exposed stone walls, wood beam ceilings and grand brick archways. The kitchen area is great for cooking up all your favourite meals during your stay, with a dining set where you can tuck in with family and friends.

You'll be utterly charmed by the outside areas, too – there's a private pool here that's surrounded by sun loungers, so you can spend the day alternating between soaking up the sunshine and cooling off in the water. There's also a covered terrace here, with a lounge area for resting with your morning coffee as you watch the sunrise, and a dining table for sipping on bellinis as you watch the sunset.

Poolside Bellinis

What this home may lack in style, it makes up for in location. Nestled in the hills of Moneglia, it commands views across the bay and is well-connected by train to Genoa and the coastal villages of the Cinque Terre. Admire the views from a lounger on the terrace, or head down to the pool, which stays relatively shady and cool thanks to the surrounding trees. The furnishings are a little dated, but at least there are sea views in the upper bedrooms, while the large sliding glass doors mean you're never far away from a sunny seat. Plus, the glass dining table comfortably seats your entire group, so you can also enjoy meals together – that's if you don't wander into Moneglia to try one of the restaurants on the palm-tree-lined streets.

Opalescent Retreat

This home has a particularly impressive location. It's nestled within not one, but two UNESCO World Heritage sites – the Vineyard Landscape of Piedmont and the Sacred Mountains of Piedmont and Lombardy. And, with 17 hectares of land surrounding the house, and several rare white truffle trees, there's no denying this is a special spot. 

Much of the house dates back to the 19th century, with an even older Medieval section inside, and there's a sense of history in every corner. However, that's not to say that it's old-fashioned – the host has carefully selected a fresh colour scheme and provided plenty of modern conveniences to enjoy. Fire up the coffee machine and sip your morning espresso on the balcony, before grabbing your book and picking a sun lounger to catch some rays. When the temperature rises, simply slip into the swimming pool and float under the blue sky, or head for some shade under the portico. 

Walkers will be delighted with the range of hiking trails throughout this region, which guarantee incredible views of the luscious landscape. Wine lovers are also well catered for, with several nearby vineyards where you can try the local vintages. There are several charming villages within driving distance, and if you're visiting during the right time of year then you might have the chance to join one of the region's most unique traditions – a truffle hunt. 

White Truffle Season

This grand old villa has all the charm of yesteryear, plus a swimming pool practically grazing the treetops. Between Turin and Milan, in the Piedmont countryside, the grounds are flanked by hills and surrounded by forest. You can enjoy a quiet, rural location yet it’s just a fifteen-minute drive into the centre of Asti, known as the City of 100 towers in its medieval heart. Perhaps pick up a bottle of chilled, sparkling Asti and bring it back to enjoy on the terrace of your grand, Italian country home. There’s an outdoor dining table on the swimming pool terrace that overlooks the forest just begging for an evening tipple, or perhaps a barbecue dinner if you’ve been truffle hunting in the area. Inside, it’s the careful renovation of the home’s original features that really make this place stand out. Hand-painted frescoes on walls, corniced ceilings like the icing on a wedding cake and vintage mosaic tiles underfoot. Exposed brick in the kitchen gives a rustic feel, alongside the old hearth turned sink. On the first floor, a huge barn-like room with arched floor-to-ceiling windows looking over the forest is the perfect place for a family celebration. 

Vino Spumante

A lush garden, a private hot tub and pool, and a loggia that opens up to them all – this home welcomes you to enjoy these features and more. Set in a rural enclave of the Piedmont region with charming villages all around, there’s plenty to see and do with a scenic drive in any direction – if you can tear yourself away from the home, that is. Unwind on the veranda with your morning coffee before relaxing on a sun lounger or outdoor sofa, then dine alfresco in the evening in the loggia with a view of the rolling hills.
