This lovely beachfront home is located in the Ostuni area of Puglia, Italy, almost touching distance from the sea. It’s just 11 kilometres from Ostuni, where you can find various shops and restaurants, while charming Cisternino is 25 kilometres away. Or you could simply relax outside on one of two verandas with beautiful Mediterranean Sea views. Inside, whilst most of the interiors are in neutral tones, you may have to wear sunglasses in the kitchen – it’s decorated from floor to ceiling in a vibrant lime hue. That said, it’s probably got everything you need for preparing your favourite pasta recipes.

Sitting pretty amongst century-old olive trees, this typical Apulian house is the ideal getaway to the Ostuni area. Though perfect for a romantic trip, it can sleep up to four with the additional sofa bed in the mezzanine area. Thanks to the vaulted ceilings and bright open spaces, it won't feel cramped either. And if, for some reason, it does, you can always take to the sprawling garden to stretch your legs. The shaded terrace creates the opportunity for alfresco meals, and there's a private pool too. The location here is great, you’ll find a bakery 200 metres away, so that’s breakfast and lunch covered, while there’s a museum 500 metres from here. There’s also the Zagaredde antique market every second Sunday of the month, 900 metres from this home.

All three guests will be sleeping in one bedroom, so we think this home is better suited to small families, or a couple.

Part of a grand 16th-century mansion that’s been lovingly restored into apartments, this home is an excellent base in Ostuni for a couple or a small family. We think at most two adults can stay here comfortably as it’s on the smaller side – the pull-out bed is definitely better suited to children. For an additional fee, four extra guests can be accommodated on sofa beds in the living rooms, and while the kitchenettes here are quite small, the private pool and extensive space for alfresco dining make up for the cosy interiors. We think it's worth having a car here to get the most out of your trip – you'll find some lovely villages like Cisternino nearby, and the gorgeous beaches of Torre Guaceto are a short drive away.

In the 16th century, this home was a grand mansion. It’s since been renovated into a series of beautiful apartments, each one a splendid base for exploring historic Ostuni. This apartment features a striking domed ceiling above the mezzanine-level bedroom, and has a petite balcony where you can sip vino and watch the action of the square below. There isn't much space but it's a good fit for a couple, and we think the communal spaces – including an ancient chapel and a relaxation area – more than make up for it.

This cosy studio apartment is in a 16th-century mansion renovated into apartments. The charm and history of the home have been retained – you can even visit the original chapel, and the coat of arms of one of the first families to own the home can be seen on the front door. Inside, space is limited, and the sleeping arrangements aren’t the most comfortable or private – we think this is best suited to one adult and one child sharing. You will have access to the shared lounge and relaxation area though, giving you a bit more room to spread out.

Sample all of Apulia's best bits from this villa set just a few minutes' drive from Ostuni's historic centre and not far from the beaches of the Adriatic coast. A great option for a family holiday, the open-plan living area overlooks the private infinity pool – perfect for keeping an eye on children playing. If we were being picky, the kitchen area inside feels a touch small compared to the rest of the villa. However, the outdoor pizza oven and barbecue beneath a covered pergola for alfresco dining make up for that.

And the outdoor kitchen means you won't have to tear yourselves away from the views at meal times either. Traditional stone interiors remind you of your location in Puglia, while modern furnishings ensure comfort and practicality meet in the middle. Located in a sixteenth-century building in the heart of Ostuni, this functional apartment makes a great base for exploring the historic town. We were big fans of the small industrial kitchenette, while the stone walls and arching brick ceilings speak to the building's history. The living area only being accessible by a ladder isn't exactly convenient, but luckily you'll find plenty of shared spaces within the building – perfect if you're looking to mingle with your fellow guests. And the communal bath area strikes us as ideal for unwinding after a day traversing Ostuni's winding streets. 

The Peaceful Palace

Fancy stopping in central Ostuni? Boasting 16th-century charm, there's an on-site chapel, courtyard, and indoor pool to share in this building. Given the lack of privacy in the shared bedroom, this ground-floor apartment may be best suited to a young family of three, but it's a great base for sightseers with busy schedules. While the historic sights of the city might keep you close to home, the Adriatic coast is only 8 kilometres away if you feel like a beach day.

Puglia’s dramatic coastal rock formations and turquoise waters make this region feel somewhat otherworldly. And when you bring the unique, conical ‘trullo’ houses of Alberobello into the mix, life here could truly be on another planet. Just a thirty-five-minute drive from this village, further examples of intriguing architecture continue south into the heel of Italy’s boot – your very own home included.

Just an eight-minute drive from the bustling town centre of Ostuni, this villa is less isolated than it seems. Its countryside setting is a picture-perfect scene of olive trees and native foliage, with a striking structure in the middle. The white, slatted awning of your shaded terrace juts out to the private pool, lined by a honey-coloured drystone wall and a Buddhist statue (ensuring that extra sense of zen).

From this angle, the home looks superbly modern and angular. But from the side, you'll see the trullo at its heart has been given a new lease of life thanks to clever architecture. It’s more apparent in the lounge, where the beautiful stonework remains exposed with rounded archways and alcoves leading off this peaceful space. We love the mix of modern, minimalist furniture with the traditional build – it really lets the home do the talking.
