You’ll likely fall under the spell of this loft gem the moment you step through the door: the living area is flooded with an abundance of natural light, courtesy of the floor-to-ceiling window. You can kick off your shoes and relax on the sofa, listening to your favourite tunes. We love the artwork on the walls, the record-shaped coffee table, and the lovely and unexpected pieces dotted around. 

Step into the bright and inviting kitchen to rustle up a quick and delicious meal, and enjoy it either at the dining table or out on the balcony, where you can also gaze at the orange rooftops of Rome before you.

The Pigneto neighbourhood was loved by Italian poet and film maestro, Pier Paolo Pasolini, who sought inspiration from its unapologetic streets. Today, the neighbourhood is just as rousing with fresh boutiques, art galleries and cool eateries drawing an offbeat crowd – and this apartment, right on the cusp of the action, fits in perfectly. Inside, you’ll find contemporary-meets-retro design. We loved the botanical feature wall and cherry red theatre chairs. After waking up in bright bedrooms, find a spot to relax with a cappuccino and a book pulled from your host’s collection. When you start to feel peckish, a simple yet sleek kitchen has enough accoutrements to knock up a light brunch. Dig in on the balcony or pack it as a picnic and enjoy at Parco delle Energie, a twenty-minute stroll away.

If you’re in search of a simple stay just outside the centre of Rome, this apartment offers an easy solution. From here, it’s just ten-minutes to Termini station – making it easy to connect with iconic sights across the city. You’ll find all the amenities you could need within walking distance and free-street parking is available if you’re travelling by car. Back at home, there’s plenty of space to switch off, relax or catch up on work. If you’re travelling as a group of nine, it’s worth noting five guests will be sleeping on sofa beds, but it’s a great option for families and groups of friends.

And although Rome’s landmarks and attractions are a bit further away, the train station is just a short walk. The apartment itself is bright and includes a glazed sunroom. The living room can also accommodate additional guests, as it has a sofa bed for two people at full occupancy. Both bedrooms are large, too, making this apartment a comfortable base for exploring the Eternal City.

The living room is bright, and it also sleeps guests five and six on a sofa bed. One of the bedrooms has a desk as well in case you need to work from home – this place is ideal for business and leisure travellers.

This cosy apartment in San Lorenzo is perfect for couples looking to explore Rome. That said, it can sleep up to four guests – but two will draw the short straw and be sleeping on the sofa bed in the living room. It’s also worth noting that the bedroom is on a mezzanine level, so at full occupancy, privacy is limited. With a stripped-back, fuss-free style, it may not be to everyone’s taste, but with easy access to public transport, it’s ideal for exploring the city.

This apartment near Porta Maggiore is an ideal option for a fuss-free stay. It's not right in the city centre, but nearby bus and tram links can connect you to most of Rome. Though somewhat basic in design, the loft-style layout will suit friends and families – as will the huge terrace, where you can share a bottle of wine and reminisce under the Roman sun. Housed in a typically Italian, early 20th-century building, this apartment is the ideal bolthole in Rome for a group or family. Designed as a guesthouse, it has hotel-level comfort, like soundproofing and en-suites in every bedroom. It's located just outside the centre of Rome, in a quiet neighbourhood between the lively Pigneto and San Lorenzo districts that offer a taste of local life with flea markets, authentic restaurants, and live music venues. Central Rome is easily reached by tram or bus, with the iconic Colosseum only thirty minutes from your door.

This sixth-floor loft apartment does things differently. There’s no TV for starters, and the bedrooms are comfortable, yet not breathtaking. So what caught our discerning eye? Step out onto the 200sq/metre rooftop terrace, overlooking picturesque Rome and all of your questions will be answered. The decked terrace comes with a veranda cover, plenty of sofa seating and a table for alfresco dining – we can think of nothing better than warmer evenings spent out here with friends and family, eating, drinking and laughing as the sun goes down. While there's certainly a Roman rustic charm to the home, with its wooden floorboards and low beamed ceilings, the modern details really bring the living room and kitchen to life. Light pours in through the sleek crittall windows, extending the space out to the terrace and creating a bright and airy kitchen-diner area – the modern breakfast bar is the perfect spot to sip your morning espresso. When – all caffeinated and ready to explore – you do eventually peel yourself away from that beautiful terrace, the home's location is ideal for discovering the city's ancient sights. Walk to the Colosseum in twenty minutes and visit the Roman Forum, under three kilometres from home. Termini train station is also a twenty-minute stroll away, connecting you to the rest of the city in no time at all. While a wander through the immediate neighbourhood will have you passing plenty of pastry shops, traditional trattorias and cocktail bars – with so much to see and do, you'll be spoilt for choice.

This is all about spending time with your loved ones. Whether it’s in the kitchen cooking up a storm, a night-in on the sofa with a good movie, or playing chess, this home has got you covered. Decorated with memorabilia from the hosts’ many travels to exotic destinations, it’s easy to see that it’s a loved home. Facing the inner courtyard, guests are also offered peace and tranquillity, while still being 'in the middle of things'. While nestled on the outskirts of the city, the home and neighbouring streets feel very authentic – we love all the unique restaurants, flower stalls, and general local flair.

Being within a short five-minute walking distance of the subway, accessing everything that this beautiful city has to offer could not be easier, though of course, taking the leisurely walk will also enable you to take a look behind the scenes and tread the unbeaten track. In a fifteen-minute stroll, you can reach the Basilica of St. John Lateran and the Scala Santa, and in a thirty-minute escapade, you'll find yourself at the steps of the Roman Forum, or in the shadow of the Colosseum.

In this Termini apartment, the roof terrace is the first thing that grabs your attention, and with good reason. It’s a little world in itself, with furniture, awnings, vibrant shrubbery and even a kitchen. You’re well set up for balmy summers days outside, hosting slap-up feasts in the sunshine or enjoying a moment to yourself with a cappuccino—but if you want to do as the Romans do—never after 11am. Inside, the apartment oozes comfort with a quiet study space for reading and a stylish living room, where you can put your feet up after a hectic day. The flat is well positioned for places to eat—you’re surrounded by pizzerias and historic wine bars. Just over the railway tracks, the city awaits. You can reach the ancient relics of the bustling Municipio I in ten minutes by car.

Get to know the public transport system and hop on the underground metro or bus routes to reach Rome's best known historic attractions, with most sights averaging around a twenty-five-minute commute from this home. That being said, you'll never be far from authentic Italian eateries and restaurants here, and in the Tiburtino district, you'll be eating top-notch, quality pizza and pasta as if you were a local, rather than being sucked in by tourist traps and prices elsewhere in the city.

Located at the heart of vibrant San Lorenzo, this apartment is perfectly placed for exploring historic Rome. You’ve got must-sees like the Colosseum within walking distance, and for adventures further afield, Roma Termini train station is a fifteen-minute stroll away. While the kitchen here is small, it’s well-equipped. And with a choice of restaurants on the doorstep, you certainly won’t go hungry. We think this home is a great base for a fuss-free city break.

Outside, it’s just 500 metres to the nearest metro station, while the Colosseum is just a twenty-minute bus ride away. This stylish apartment is right around the corner from Termini, Rome's biggest train station, so there's no doubt that the transport links are excellent. But many of the must-see sights can also be reached on foot, including the magnificent Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore five minutes away and The Colosseum just a little further, about a twenty-minute stroll. After fueling up on pasta and gelato at Mercato Centrale Roma across the street, set off for the Trevi Fountain, The Pantheon and The Spanish Steps, all reachable in under half an hour. When you're not off exploring, shopping or sipping Italian wine at one of the bars in this area, rest your tired feet back at home. We love the bold green colours and funky design – picture cowhide rugs, vibrant pop art and leafy wallpaper in the bedroom. The bathroom is also one of our favourites – it has a huge walk-in rain shower that's the perfect way to relax after a busy day. And this pad has more than enough room for two, so there's plenty of space to make yourself at home. In the evenings, pour yourself an aperitif and rustle up a feast in the contemporary kitchen, then end the night with Netflix in bed, nodding off while to the sound of your favourite shows.

It’s centrally located between major sights including the Trevi Fountain and the Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore, with a Metro station just four minutes away – you can easily explore the city. The apartment is quiet and comfortable, an elegant escape in a bustling capital city. We love the classic architectural elements, including stunning frescoed ceilings, juxtaposed with bold splashes of colour and modern art.

Situated a short stroll from both the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain, this apartment has a fantastic location for exploring Rome. The Pantheon, the Roman Forum and much more are also within walking distance. There are a variety of shops, cafes and restaurants in the neighbourhood to enjoy too. From this home’s open-plan living space, there are wonderful views of the Basilica of Saint Mary in Cosmedin. You can take in the vistas from the dining table. The kitchen area is quite compact, we would say – there’s no oven, but there’s a hob and a microwave. But, with an address as great as this, will you be spending much time at the apartment?

On a quiet street near San Giovanni in Laterano, this eclectic apartment offers a haven to return to after a day in the bustling centre. Though the neighbourhood is quiet, you’re still only a fifteen-minute stroll away from the Colosseum and Roman Forum. If you don’t fancy stretching your legs, the Manzoni metro station is a three-minute walk, putting all of Rome at your fingertips. This loft apartment is a mix of glamour and kitsch – think gilded mirrors, leopard-print throws and thick, red velvet curtains. Though the arched windows and exposed beam ceiling reassure that you’re in an old quarter of Rome. The eclectic fireplace set in a traditional mantle is a nice homely touch too.

It’s easy to work out where the owner found inspiration for this gallery-like apartment – all you need to do is wander around the local neighbourhood of Monti. Bustling cafés, ornate architecture, and ancient grandeur is all around. A nine-minute stroll in either direction will take you to two of the city’s most majestic sights – the Colosseum and the Foro Romano. With antiquity and arts all around you, the theme continues as you return home.

Many of us are content with painting walls in a calming, neutral tone, but the owner of this apartment had bigger plans. In a nod to the frescoes of the city, the walls are painted in trompe-l'œil effect – with clever positioning of the mirrors, the artwork appears in 3D. While the kitchen tiles and dining table have also enjoyed some brushwork, and this art project was just one effort in the restoration of this nineteenth-century home.

We love the terracotta-coloured tilework, adorned by vintage pieces of furniture dotted throughout the living space and bedroom. Pad across tiles and decorative rugs towards the double doors – this scene isn’t an optical illusion. You’ve got a private balconette with colourful flowers and scenes of Roman streets below. Is there any better spot for a chilled glass of prosecco?

When we say that this home is a stone’s throw from the Trevi Fountain, we really mean it. Or should we say a coin’s throw? Watch where you’re aiming that penny, because this apartment is just steps away from Rome’s most striking water feature. In a quiet lane away from clamouring tourists, this spot has world-famous attractions, but with a local vibe. Stepping in to look around the decor, you notice a delightful mixture of old and new. Keep an eye out for chunky wooden beams, parquet floors, and original masonry as you settle down on antique furniture. Then there’s a somewhat contemporary Scandi look, with minimalist bedspreads, stepped bed frames, and modern, white shelved walls. These shelves are packed with literature and art books. Take your pick from the collection and perch in the study – with its twisted gold column, hardwood furnishings, and vintage typewriter, you’ll feel every bit the European intellectual. A stroll in the immediate neighbourhood will take you to jewellery boutiques and hidden wine bars for a glass of barolo. Descend the famous Spanish Steps to the Piazza di Spagna, just over five minutes from your home – from here, you can explore all the sights of the city by metro.

This apartment boasts an unbeatable location in Rome, just above Piazza Barberini. Staying in such a central spot means you’ll be within walking distance of many of Rome’s most iconic attractions – the Trevi Fountain is only a few minutes away. You’ll also be perfectly placed to hit the shops. This is an excellent base for a family, with interconnected rooms and an open-plan living, dining, and kitchen space. Heavy packers, be warned – there are quite a few stairs to tackle here.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a better location than this central Rome apartment. The must-sees of Via Veneto, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and Villa Borghese are all just minutes away on foot. Set on the top floor of a historic building, your host has gone above and beyond to ensure you'll have everything you need to settle in. Expect designer details like Italian baths and artisan lamps, antique furniture, and original oil paintings. If you're a full house, it's worth noting that two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed in the living area. Three guests will also share one of the bedrooms, featuring a king-sized bed and a single bed. While this won't suit everyone, we think it could work out great for sharing with family or close friends.

Looking for a room with a view in Rome's historic Old Town? How's waking up to uninterrupted vistas of the Colosseum and the Imperial Forums float your barca?

Housed in a Roman palazzo of high and mighty proportions, from the outside, this place is everything you'd imagine your Italian bolthole to be. Step inside, and the home has been beautifully reimagined for modern living with sleek, polished lines and a monochrome palette providing the perfect juxtaposition to the ornate grandeur outside.

Roll out of the king-sized bed and pad over to the glamourous kitchen area to fire up the coffee machine as you hatch plans for the day ahead. There are all the gadgets going to rustle up a bite to eat, but with coffee bars bursting at the seams in the streets below, you might rather grab breakfast on the go.

Get off to a flying start exploring the city at the Colosseum –⁠ the entrance is just a four-minute walk from your door (best seen early in the mornings to beat the crowds). And when it's time to cast your net further into the city, the metro is just steps from your door (one minute to be exact) –⁠  though we doubt you'll need it. Take your pick from the other must-see sights reachable on foot - the Pantheon, Spanish Steps, and the Trevi Fountain are less than a half-an-hour stroll away.

Set in a gorgeous 20th-century building only a five-minute walk from the Piazza di Spagna, this home delivers on location in spades. You're surrounded by mouth-watering restaurants, traditional cafes and upscale shops, not to mention all the museums, landmarks (including The Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain) and galleries within walking distance. Spend an afternoon wandering Rome's cobbled streets before enjoying an aperitif at one of the trendy bars in this neighbourhood. When you've had your fun for the day, retreat home to this bright and roomy apartment. Inside, it's uncluttered and minimal, which only enhances the relaxing atmosphere. Our favourite spot is the long balcony, which is shaded from the Italian sun by a leafy trellis. Sit out there in the evenings with a glass of wine and admire the views before unwinding with a soak in the lush deep bathtub.

You'll find this bright apartment in dreamy Monti, surrounded by some of the Eternal City's best. Iconic sights such as the Colosseum and Pantheon are within walking distance. Though the kitchenette is the perfect place to practice newly-acquired pasta-making skills, several restaurants with authentic cuisine are right on your doorstep. The mix of old and new – rustic rafters against a sleeker kitchen – makes it easy on the eyes. We especially like the bedroom mural. Central and charming, it's ideal for a romantic getaway and curious explorers.

Situated in Rome’s Campo de' Fiori, this apartment is ideal for those who want a base with all the necessary comforts but aren't too concerned about frills. That said, the private terrace is pretty wow, with a lounge area, dining area and sweeping city views. We like the traditional features, but you might find the kitchen and bathrooms a little dated. What sold us on this pad was the terrace, the enclosed patio, and the central location – from here, you’re a short walk from the Pantheon and the Roman Forum, while you’ll find plenty of trattorias, neighbourhood bars and little cafes just off your doorstep.

With its location just moments from the Spanish Steps, this apartment is hard to beat. It can't get more central than this – you'll be within walking distance of the Trevi Fountain, Villa Borghese, and countless eateries. After a long day on your feet, you'll appreciate the indoor Jacuzzi waiting for you back home. The overall design is contemporary and chic, featuring open-concept bathrooms that ooze luxury (though privacy is, of course, limited). Travelling as a group of six? Upon request, two guests can kip on single beds in the living area, but we think this home is best for four.
