Being on the top floor of an apartment building often, although not always, brings two perks — good views and plenty of daylight. This home in the Campo Marzio neighbourhood of Rome delivers on both fronts, with large windows gazing out over the city's rooftops. We have a lot of good things to say about the interior, from the sumptuous four-poster bed to the sleek black kitchen. There's even a terrace on which to start the day with coffee and breakfast. Location-wise, a first-time visitor to Rome couldn't wish for better. Many of the big-hitters are within walking distance, while there's also a fresh food market around the corner from the building should you want to stock up on authentic ingredients for an Italian feast.


Bagheera

Though not in the heart of the city, this modern apartment makes a great base for a break in Rome. The historic centre is a short metro ride away, while the neighbourhood is more local, with eateries, cafés, and green spaces nearby. There’s room for four, with two guests sleeping on a sofa bed in the living area. It’s a compact setup, but the outdoor terrace adds extra space, ideal for meals or a quiet moment outside. With plenty to explore close by, it’s a good fit for those looking to stay just outside the crowds.

A Morning in Rome

Coppedè isn’t the best-known quarter of the city, but it’s something of an undiscovered gem. The buildings, an enthralling mix of art nouveau, Greek classicism, medieval and baroque, were all built around the same time, and designed by the eponymous architect. As a flat, L'Esploratrice lives up to the area’s reputation for upmarket homes. It’s set over two floors, and retains many of the original, early-twentieth-century features – like the granite floors and carved wooden door frames. 


L'Esploratrice

Though its building dates back to 1949, this bright apartment’s interiors are dazzlingly modern. Wood floors, cool contemporary furnishings and plenty of statement lighting create a wonderfully chic ambience in the open-plan living space that gets plenty of natural light from its large windows. Whether you’re kicking back on the stylish sectional with a glass of Italian red or gathering around the dining table for a homemade feast, you’ll love socialising in this welcoming space.

The bedrooms, meanwhile, are just as chic with each one boasting its own signature look. We love the main bedroom’s perfectly positioned armchair and its views of the Convento Ancelle Sacro Cuore, while the second bedroom’s four-poster bed and handy desk space are a treat for those needing to mix work with play. Factor in the gleaming bathrooms with their luxurious rainfall showers and you’ve got everything you need for a blissful city break. 

Outside of your home, you’ve got plenty to see and do, including Villa Borghese and its carefully manicured gardens (a thirteen-minute walk), the Trevi Fountain (a twenty-two-minute walk), the Spanish Steps (a twenty-three-minute walk) and Porta Pia – designed by Michelangelo – four minutes away on foot. 

Mellifluo

A private rooftop terrace with sweeping city vistas sets this central bolthole apart from the rest – as does its location. Within easy walking distance of Piazza Barberini, Piazza di Spagna, the Trinità dei Monti steps and the Trevi Fountain, exploring the city on foot couldn’t be easier. Prefer public transport? Barberini metro station is just a four-minute stroll away. Arriving by car is just as straightforward, thanks to the rare bonus of private parking. Housed within a historic palazzo over two floors, while the interiors are pared back in places, you can't argue with the sense of space this place brings. Meanwhile, the exposed beams and original Juliet balcony windows bring plenty of character. 

All the Piazzas

There’s a lot to love about this Roman loft apartment. For starters, it’s hard to miss the bright skylight – letting sunshine flood into the living space. The vaulted ceilings and stone walls only add to the charm, while all modern comforts will make you feel right at home. The bedrooms each have their own bathroom, making morning routines a breeze. But best of all is the location. It’s minutes from the metro and an easy stroll to the Vatican Museums, with Rome’s sights, shops, and trattorias right on your doorstep.

Prati Panorama

Minimal and illuminated, this bright apartment invites you to experience Rome from your own slice of calm. You can feel the Piazza del Popolo neighbourhood energy from your private Cotto-tiled terrazza – a prime spot to revitalise with a glass of local Frascati after a day exploring the gardens of Villa Borghese – only a five-minute walk from your apartment.

This home’s calm and simple aesthetic has been thoughtfully designed to maximise your city break. The sleek kitchen is kitted out for quick bites whilst the living space invites you to unwind with its crisp white walls, glossy surfaces and plump sofas. Nothing will feel better than sinking into your sheets in your light-filled bedroom, french doors open, after a day exploring the ancient architecture of the Pantheon and the historic Piazza Navona, a seventeen-minute walk from your apartment.

Having experienced Rome’s reigning monuments, why not discover the city’s more contemporary structures for a dose of architectural juxtaposition – Richard Meier’s Museo dell’Ara Pacis, an eight-minute walk away, presents a unique display of modernism in the heart of the historic centre. When you’re ready to eat, stop in at Supplizio for their golden-fried rice balls known as supplì – our pick is the cacio e pepe, although we don’t blame you for sampling every flavour.

Piazza Terrazza

You’ll be away from Rome’s busiest spots while still being close to the action here. Ancient history is right on your doorstep here – the 1500-year-old Temple of Minerva Medica is right across the road, and it’s a scenic walk through cobblestoned streets to reach the apex of the city’s cultural icons, the Colosseum. Millennia-old landmarks contrast with this apartment’s modern touches – we love the big marble dining table, and the balcony is a nice touch too. And although two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed here, the home has plenty of space for everyone to feel comfortable.

Roman Aura

This little apartment is a comfortable base for exploring Rome with everything you need after a day of sightseeing. The open plan kitchen and diner has a dining table that doubles up nicely as a desk, and the kitchenette is great for preparing light bites and authentic breakfasts. When you're all set, head outside to find the nearest metro station around the corner, and whisk yourself to the city centre's most popular attractions – like the Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain – in twenty minutes. On your way home, nip into one of the area's osterias for an authentic Italian dinner. 

Elegant Italian Place

This attractively decorated apartment is the perfect place for a Roman holiday. Located in the heart of historic Rome, it’s just a five-minute walk from Piazza di Spagna and the luxury designer brands of Via de’ Condotti, and a short stroll from the Trevi Fountain. The apartment is stylish and comfortable, with a sofa bed in the living space for two guests – for longer stays or for those hoping for a bit more room, we’d stick to a maximum guest count of two.

Just steps away from Rome's Termini train station, this apartment is in a really convenient location. The Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major, the Roman Forum, the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps are all within walking distance too. There’s also a range of pizzerias, trattorias and cafes surrounding this home which has an open-plan living space with a modern kitchen. This room also sleeps two guests on a sofa bed when needed – the apartment is perfect for a city break.

Located in a coveted spot directly across from the Piazza Venezia in Rome, this stylish home puts you at the very heart of the city’s action. Inside, modern comfort meets Italian elegance with large leather sofas, herringbone wood floors and a stunning coffered ceiling in the living room. Of course, the piece de resistance is the windows here, offering unobstructed views of the piazza. Snuggle up on the sofa with your morning coffee while feasting on the vistas, then head out to see the city’s other iconic sights. The Colosseum is just a ten-minute walk away, while the Trevi Fountain is just eight minutes away on foot. After a day of sightseeing, come back home for a luxurious shower before sitting down to a meal in your dining area as you watch the sunset from your picture windows.
