You’ll find this unfussy villa in northeast Sardinia, around 500 metres from Le Saline Beach and 11 kilometres from the city of Olbia, home to the medieval San Simplicio basilica and a palm-fringed waterfront. Back at the abode, two living areas provide plenty of space for the whole group to stretch out and the garden is the ideal spot to relax in the sunshine or shade. Granted, there’s no swimming pool here, but with the coast so easily accessible we don’t think you’ll mind too much.

While Luculumbu Beach is within walking distance, there’s not much else to do in the surrounding area, so a car is a must here. Sun-seekers will love this Sardinian villa. It can be found in the village of Portobello di Gallura, just a short distance from the sandy shores of Cala Sassari. Its outside space is comprised of two large terraces with plenty of room for everyone to stretch out in the sun – and there are glorious sea views to admire. There's also a private pool. Inside the villa is crisp and modern, though you’ll have to pay for bed and bath linen (or bring your own). When you’re not at the beach, you can soak up the rays on the hiking and cycling trails of the Gallura area – it’s best to hire a car if you want to explore.

This wonderful villa is located in the north of Sardinia, just a stone's throw away from the rugged coast. It's the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing getaway on this sunny island, the second largest in the Mediterranean Sea. 

The spacious home is actually composed of the main house and a separate outbuilding, meaning that all guests can enjoy some peace and quiet. You can flop down inside with a good book to hide from the heat, but we think you'll want to spend most of your time enjoying the fabulous outdoor space. Follow the path, and you'll find a chill-out zone, where you can relax with a glass of Pinot Grigio as you admire the sea views. And, there's even a sparkling swimming pool – take a dip before refueling with an alfresco meal cooked on the grill. 

If you're taking a boat with you, you can arrange to moor it at the Marina di Sa Jaga, just a short walk away. When you fancy a beach day, hop in the car and drive over to Spiaggia di Marinella for a day on the sand. And, if you're feeling adventurous, head inland to hike through the epic landscapes – there's no place quite like Sardinia.

If you're staying in a home situated on the Sardinian coastline, it would be a crying shame if the address didn't have an outdoor spot from which to admire the majesty of the local landscape. Thankfully, this apartment in the north of the island really delivers on the front.

Not only is there a large sun terrace with 180-degree views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and Tavolara island, but there are two further verandahs with alfresco tables and a well-kept garden. There are pleasant views out through the home's windows too, which, thanks to the elevated position, also bring in lots of natural light. This asset works particularly well with the bright and contemporary design throughout, from the white walls and glossy kitchen surfaces to the rather striking head sculpture in the living space.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, there's a rock beach only eighty metres from the home and the sandy Spiaggia Mare Rocce is two hundred metres' walk. There's a decent choice of restaurants in the surrounding town of Pittulongu, while you can find a wider choice, plus some archaeological ruins, in the city of Olbia, just over fifteen minutes' drive away.

On a panoramic promontory, close to the glamour and glitz of the Costa Smeralda, this charming villa is the perfect base for exploring Sardinia’s splendid coast. The view over the Gulf of Portisco is the kind of sight we’ve been dreaming of all winter. Picture yourself soaking up the Sardinian sun beside the lagoon-like pool or gazing out over olive trees and deep blue ocean from the veranda. Inside provides a welcome respite from the heat of the midday sun, with cool terracotta floors, traditional furniture and local handicrafts. You’re 2km away from a string of white sand beaches, as well as the Marina di Portisco with its selection of waterfront restaurants. The characterful borgo of San Pantaleo is just inland and is ideal for picking up fresh produce for an Italian style feast come the evening. You’ll want to be back home before the sun goes down though, for an aperitif with a view.

The view from this villa is simply stunning. From every angle in the garden, your eye is drawn to the Gulf of Pevero, and to the lush scenery of this Emerald Coast home. Location wise, you’re a short drive from the centre of Golfo Aranci, where you’ll find a picturesque harbour and a selection of restaurants and bars, and a fifteen minute drive from the historic town of Olbia.

If you want to get some diving done while you’re in Sardinia, this could be the perfect base for you. This villa is in Santa Teresa di Gallura, just 450 metres from Baia Santa Reparata, a beach known for its colourful seabeds. You can also easily hop on a boat trip to explore La Maddalena Archipelago. When you’re on terra firma, you’ll enjoy the outside space here – the private pool and shaded terrace are where we’d be spending most of our time. Some of the decor is a little dated, but there’s also plenty of charm here – you’ll need to pay for bedding and towels though.

It’s a ten-minute drive into Bonifacio, an ancient port town with a buzzing marina and medieval hilltop citadel. Outdoor dining is on offer under the shaded terrace, framed by ivy. Inside it feels natural with wooden walls and a white-wash vaulted ceiling. Floor to ceiling windows show off a view of the flowering garden on all sides and the huge corner sofa is big enough to fit the whole family easily. There’s something bohemian yet sleek about the decor, where a collection of books and records sit on shelves and touches like the tree-branch standing lamp and raw wood coffee table are a reflection of the ancient woodlands just beyond your front door.   

To The Citadel

This home boasts an envy-inducing setting in Capo Ferro, one of Porto Cervo’s most sought-after neighbourhoods. From its hilltop position, it boasts remarkable views of the Mediterranean Sea, tempting guests to travel the 1.5 miles to the marina for boat trips along the coast. Inside, the villa is elegant and comfortable. We love the outdoor kitchen, and the porch for drinking in the views after a dip in the private pool.
