Set within acres and acres of olive groves, this villa is all about Sicily’s peace and quiet. If you do want to catch a bit of the island’s buzz and stock up on supplies, the historic town of Castelvetrano is a short drive away. But this place is all about the tranquil life, floating in the huge, turquoise swimming pool or enjoying a long, lazy lounge thanks to the full outdoor kitchen. There are plenty of shaded spots with comfy seating dotted around the grounds. 

The villa is set out courtyard-style, all on one level (except for one little turret) with white buildings clustered around the pool terrace. Bedrooms, living rooms and dining areas have their own entrances onto the terrace. Inside, we love the old-world feel of the place with its sloped, wooden ceilings in the bedrooms and Persian rugs in the living room. Furniture feels like it belongs to a 19th-century aristocrat. There’s a big wood-burning stove in the dine-in kitchen, though we doubt you’ll need it in the heat of spring, autumn and summer. All in all, this place feels like you’ve got your own castle in the Sicilian countryside.

Verde Sprawl

Perched on a hillside in the Trapani province of Sicily, this villa boasts sweeping views across the Med to the Aeolian Islands. Inside, the style is modern and minimal, with floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the rooms with natural light, plus a sauna and a mood shower. But the real showstopper is the pool, complete with an inbuilt jacuzzi and closeable windows for chilly days. And the location? Spot on: you’re on the western coast, famed for its wineries and beaches, while the historic town of Marsala is just fifteen minutes away by car.

When you’re not among vineyards, you might escape to another natural wonder – the beach. Drive along the coast to find your favourite among a number of rocky and sandy beaches and once there, you can fully indulge yourself for the day. Swim until the tides and sunshine has left you feeling that particular brand of happy-tired, or catch up on your reading as you lie back under an umbrella and listen to the waves lapping upon the shore. 

Back home you’ll find all the comforts you expect from a holiday home and we encourage you to spend time outdoors under the shaded terrace.
