This apartment on the eastern edge of Sicily between Riposto and Acireale is a real feast for the eyes. Not only is the building in which it sits painted a vivid shade of pink that's instantly mood-lifting, but it also faces a gorgeous view of the Ionian Sea in one direction and Mount Etna the other way.

You can admire this panorama from the two terraces surrounded by verdant Mediterranean vegetation and palm trees, or out through the wooden windows. Although the interior can't hope to compete with these surroundings, the mix of rustic features and colourful flourishes are pleasing to be among. The patterned tiling in the kitchen and bathrooms is pretty, while the wooden furnishings and terracotta tilings add a real sense of homeliness.

As you can see from gazing out over the terrace, there's a pebbly beach that's easily reached from the home, but the nearest sandy spot is in Riposto six minutes' drive up the coastline. The port city of Catania is only thirty-five minutes away in the car too when you fancy a wander around the grand architecture and a meal in one of its seafood restaurants.

Nestled rather picturesquely on the side of a hill which slopes right into the Ionian Sea, this cosy apartment is situated in the ancient town of Riposto. While compact in size, the place benefits from a large private garden where you’ll be able to enjoy alfresco meals and soak up the sun – you’ll also have direct access to the sea. Note that you’ll be sharing the building with the guests of the upstairs apartment – this being said, we think this pad makes for a great base for a couple or a small family on a Sicilian getaway.

The sights of Taormina are just 30 kilometres away, too. 

That said, you may find that once you arrive at this breath-taking home, you never want to leave. In a lush setting of gardens, palm trees and potted plants, this home is a delight to behold after a day of travel. Kick off your shoes and head straight to the upper terrace for a glass of Prosecco. From there, you can take in the sweeping views out to sea. Perhaps you’ll go for a dip in the private outdoor swimming pool, and stretch out beside it to dry off in the sun. The panoramic landscapes are, in part, what drew our eye to this family pad, but we also like this home's proximity to the Alcantara Gorges and coast. To make the most of the Sicilian climate, there's a private pool and ample outdoor seating – including sun loungers on the balcony that would be perfect for sunset cocktails – all surrounded by citrus trees. Throw in spacious rooms and plenty of natural light, and you can see what's to like here.

This former fisherman's cottage, situated right by the rocky shoreline and overlooking water in the picturesque village of Santa Tecla, has been lovingly renovated by your hosts to create an alluring home that caters to all your needs.

Unique, original features have been carefully preserved, maintaining the home's charm, while comfortable contemporary furnishings have been added alongside carefully chosen antique pieces to create a characterful space that's a real pleasure to spend time in.

An open-plan layout on the ground floor allows plenty of light in through double doors that lead out into a private garden at the rear. In addition to an outdoor dining space, there's an inviting Jacuzzi tub bubbling away, plus steps leading down to the rocky shoreline and direct access from the rocks for swimming in the crystal-clear waters of the Ionian Sea.

This coastal cottage is well placed for access to a small selection of restaurants, pizzerias and a conveniently located mini market, while there's a weekly Saturday market a kilometre away in Acireale for stocking up on local produce. From here, you can head an hour or so further inland to explore Etna Park, home to the island's iconic volcano, or drive forty minutes north along the coast to the ever-popular and picturesque city of Taormina.

One of our favourite spots in this home is the wonderful bedroom that is encompassed by floor-to-ceiling windows that light up the space whilst giving you a peek into nature – we recommend relaxing in bed as the day draws in, with the amber glow streaming into the bedroom. The second bedroom in the loft has a TV, making it easier than ever to snuggle up in bed while you watch a movie with some tasty snacks. 

Cook up a storm in the sleek kitchen and tuck into a variety of homemade meals alfresco style on the patio, followed by a snooze in the tree hammock as the children enjoy themselves on the garden playground. Dip your toes into the refreshing water of your very own pool whilst you admire the view of the sea and the relaxing sound of the waves. To the right of the pool, you'll notice a rocky beach, giving you a sense of rurality as you soak up the rays.

A short drive takes you to the city centre of Acireale, a delightful coastal destination that is located at the foot of Mount Etna. This is the holiday villa of your dreams. Located on the waterfront in Sicily, the only thing between you and the Mediterranean Sea is your private staircase over the lava rocks. If you prefer, you can slip into your private swimming pool above the waves. In such a dramatic and photogenic setting, everything about this home is orientated to the sea. This apartment can be found in the popular seaside resort of Letojanni in Sicily. It’s just a few kilometres from Taormina, so there’s plenty to see and do. We recommend visiting Isola Bella in particular. The apartment looks out over the sea and has a small terrace where you can enjoy the sunshine. Even when you’re inside, the sea views are the focal point thanks to huge windows. The decor inside is chic with a playful side, with charming trinkets dotted around. We think this home is perfect for a couple, a small family, or a trio of friends.

When we say this villa blends in with its leafy green surroundings, we mean it. A facade coated in ivy, it sits against a backdrop of towering ancient trees atop a hill on the Sicilian coast. The view from the infinity-edge swimming pool is simply stunning – looking out over the dramatic Sicilian coastline as the Mediterranean stretches before you. Wandering the terraced gardens is like the perambulations of yesteryear when glorious villas were flanked by cypress trees and the sea air was a cure-all.
