Located in the centre of Terrasini, this home sits in a sunny position in this harbour town on the Sicilian gulf of the northeast coast. To the south and west of this town, there are the fruit plantations ‘Conca d’Oro’, and the area is surrounded by vast mountains which provide a stunning backdrop to your terrace views. 

A cappuccino on the terrace, as you admire the panorama is the ideal way to begin each morning here, before you head out for the day. Why not go hiking and explore the paths at the Riserva Naturale Capo Rama – 4km away? Or, for those looking for a more relaxing break, you can spend their time on the sandy beach of Magaggiari – just 1km away.

Set within acres and acres of olive groves, this villa is all about Sicily’s peace and quiet. If you do want to catch a bit of the island’s buzz and stock up on supplies, the historic town of Castelvetrano is a short drive away. But this place is all about the tranquil life, floating in the huge, turquoise swimming pool or enjoying a long, lazy lounge thanks to the full outdoor kitchen. There are plenty of shaded spots with comfy seating dotted around the grounds. 

The villa is set out courtyard-style, all on one level (except for one little turret) with white buildings clustered around the pool terrace. Bedrooms, living rooms and dining areas have their own entrances onto the terrace. Inside, we love the old-world feel of the place with its sloped, wooden ceilings in the bedrooms and Persian rugs in the living room. Furniture feels like it belongs to a 19th-century aristocrat. There’s a big wood-burning stove in the dine-in kitchen, though we doubt you’ll need it in the heat of spring, autumn and summer. All in all, this place feels like you’ve got your own castle in the Sicilian countryside.

A short trip from the bustling, colourful streets of the island capital of Palermo, seventy minutes by car will whisk you away to another world. This home in the west of Sicily sits in a region peppered with hillside villages, traditional fishing towns, and historic rural architecture. But this charming countryside abode has so much to offer, that you might fancy staying put.

The classic stone build of this restored ‘baglio’ is characteristic of the local area. Set around a paved courtyard with native foliage blooming all over the walls, this postcard-ready scene feels truly welcoming. Even better, you’ll be greeted with a hamper full of local goodies for breakfast. Naturally, you might want to set up brunch on the poolside terrace before dipping your toes in the pool, mimosa in hand.

When you need a break from the midday sun, you certainly won’t mind going inside to play table tennis in the resident's clubhouse, or relaxing in your own rustic villa. We love the exposed stonework in the living space, with grand timber beams propping up a wonderfully lofty ceiling. Minimal furniture lets the architecture do the talking, while the 'tricolore' colour scheme of the country kitchen is a vibrant little touch that makes cooking even more of a pleasure.

With at least five wineries just a short drive away – the furthest being just shy of forty minutes – this home is well connected to the wine route and the accomplished cellars along it. With their doors open to the public, you can make a day of hopping from one to another as you sample the wares and choose your favourite to take home. That bottle of Marsala wine, coincidentally, will make the perfect accompaniment to the Mediterranean feast you’ll undoubtedly grill sometime during your stay. 

When you’re not among vineyards, you might escape to another natural wonder – the beach. Drive along the coast to find your favourite among a number of rocky and sandy beaches and once there, you can fully indulge yourself for the day. Swim until the tides and sunshine has left you feeling that particular brand of happy-tired, or catch up on your reading as you lie back under an umbrella and listen to the waves lapping upon the shore. 

Back home you’ll find all the comforts you expect from a holiday home and we encourage you to spend time outdoors under the shaded terrace. This clifftop villa has something of a show-home feel, and it’s no surprise when your hosts are two brilliant architects. Both the indoor area and outside are absurdly stylish. The living space is all grey-scale and geometric, with a modular sofa and hexagonal tiles. The theme is continued upstairs, where there are sharp-angled mirrors, diamond patterns and Escher-inspired floors. We love the use of colour, particularly the turquoise bathroom, a reminder of the spectacular surroundings. Outside, amidst the Sicilian olive trees and gardens, a spacious terrace gives way to incredible views of the Mediterranean, with glimpses of Cefalù on the horizon. The nimble-footed among you should take the narrow steps down to the Tyrrhenian Sea below, perfect for swimming and snorkelling. Or choose the more leisurely approach and wander 700m down the secret path to the beachfront. Spend your evenings under pink skies, with wine and conversation flowing freely around the alfresco dining table, before crashing into comfy beds, lulled to sleep by the gentle lapping of waves.

In a villa made up of two apartments, this home is located on the ground floor, making it ideal for those with limited mobility. Although one guest will have to sleep on the sofa bed in the living room, this apartment provides everything needed for a restful stay, with the covered terrace the ideal spot for an alfresco meal. Outside is where you’ll probably enjoy all of your meals considering the beautiful view of the Sicilian countryside. Have a chef prepare your meals or opt for a grilled feast by making use of the barbecue found in the outdoor kitchen. 

The saltwater pool will offer reprieve from the blazing sun when it’s at its apex – paddle lazily in it’s crystalline waters and enjoy a cocktail in the sunlounger after. With plenty of outdoor seating, it doesn’t just create opportunities for wine and antipasto for the entire group, it also allows you to steal away to enjoy a cup of coffee at one of the more intimate tables.

One of our favourite features is the cobbled floor of the dining space – the farmhouse style goes a long way in making this feel homely, which makes it the perfect room for tiramisu, copious amounts of coffee, and a board game or two. 

Now that you’re among some of the most charming towns found on this side of Sicily, you may as well visit the mediaeval town of Erice or the salt pans of Marsala.
