There are plenty of shaded spots with comfy seating dotted around the grounds. 

The villa is set out courtyard-style, all on one level (except for one little turret) with white buildings clustered around the pool terrace. Bedrooms, living rooms and dining areas have their own entrances onto the terrace. Inside, we love the old-world feel of the place with its sloped, wooden ceilings in the bedrooms and Persian rugs in the living room. Furniture feels like it belongs to a 19th-century aristocrat. There’s a big wood-burning stove in the dine-in kitchen, though we doubt you’ll need it in the heat of spring, autumn and summer. All in all, this place feels like you’ve got your own castle in the Sicilian countryside.

Mazara del Vallo is an ancient town with plenty of character – and, no surprise, much to discover. Visit the stunning Cathedral of the Holy Savior, buzzing Piazza delle Repubblica and the famous fishing harbour – all about twenty minutes by car, give or take. There's also a seaside promenade for strolls along the water, as well as plenty of restaurants nearby serving fresh-caught seafood.

Found in a small village atop a hill on the outskirts of Buseto Palizzolo, this terracotta and stone home takes the rustic comfort of a traditional villa and injects it with a dose of luxury so it doesn’t just look pretty, but also sets you up to lift as few fingers as possible. 

Enjoy your welcome buffet alfresco, amid the vibrant green garden, before you’ve even unpacked your bags. One of our favourite features is the cobbled floor of the dining space – the farmhouse style goes a long way in making this feel homely, which makes it the perfect room for tiramisu, copious amounts of coffee, and a board game or two. 

Now that you’re among some of the most charming towns found on this side of Sicily, you may as well visit the mediaeval town of Erice or the salt pans of Marsala.
