Set within acres and acres of olive groves, this villa is all about Sicily’s peace and quiet. If you do want to catch a bit of the island’s buzz and stock up on supplies, the historic town of Castelvetrano is a short drive away. But this place is all about the tranquil life, floating in the huge, turquoise swimming pool or enjoying a long, lazy lounge thanks to the full outdoor kitchen. There are plenty of shaded spots with comfy seating dotted around the grounds. 

The villa is set out courtyard-style, all on one level (except for one little turret) with white buildings clustered around the pool terrace. Bedrooms, living rooms and dining areas have their own entrances onto the terrace. Inside, we love the old-world feel of the place with its sloped, wooden ceilings in the bedrooms and Persian rugs in the living room. Furniture feels like it belongs to a 19th-century aristocrat. There’s a big wood-burning stove in the dine-in kitchen, though we doubt you’ll need it in the heat of spring, autumn and summer. All in all, this place feels like you’ve got your own castle in the Sicilian countryside.

Enjoy your welcome buffet alfresco, amid the vibrant green garden, before you’ve even unpacked your bags. Outside is where you’ll probably enjoy all of your meals considering the beautiful view of the Sicilian countryside. Have a chef prepare your meals or opt for a grilled feast by making use of the barbecue found in the outdoor kitchen. 

The saltwater pool will offer reprieve from the blazing sun when it’s at its apex – paddle lazily in it’s crystalline waters and enjoy a cocktail in the sunlounger after. With plenty of outdoor seating, it doesn’t just create opportunities for wine and antipasto for the entire group, it also allows you to steal away to enjoy a cup of coffee at one of the more intimate tables. 

Before watching the sunset from the loggia, you can wander the corridors of this beautiful home. Find your favourite spot under the exposed beams and settle down with a novel, or practice at the piano in the music room. 

One of our favourite features is the cobbled floor of the dining space – the farmhouse style goes a long way in making this feel homely, which makes it the perfect room for tiramisu, copious amounts of coffee, and a board game or two. 

Now that you’re among some of the most charming towns found on this side of Sicily, you may as well visit the mediaeval town of Erice or the salt pans of Marsala.

Located in San Vito Lo Capo, just 80 metres from the beach, this home offers a comfortable space for up to five guests. In a villa made up of two apartments, this home is located on the ground floor, making it ideal for those with limited mobility. Although one guest will have to sleep on the sofa bed in the living room, this apartment provides everything needed for a restful stay, with the covered terrace the ideal spot for an alfresco meal. Sitting in the silent Mediterranean wilderness of Favignana, this home is an architectural gem, crafted in local sandstone. The large open decks of this home give sweeping views over Erice, Trapani and Marsala as you settle in for a glass of wine or an evening massage. We do love our lavish kitchens but with the option of barbecue under the stars, a poolside kitchen and a fitness area, we can't see a reason to stay indoors. Equipped with underfloor heating and a focal Al Fresco dining area surrounded by nature, there are plenty of spaces for heartfelt bonding. At a stone's throw from the beach, it's also a good idea to bike along the calm coastline.
