This exquisite villa can be found on the slopes of Mount Etna, just outside of Santa Venerina. It makes for an excellent base for exploring Etna’s villages, restaurants and wine cellars, and is just a thirty-minute drive from both Acireale and Giarre. The sights of Taormina are just 30 kilometres away, too. 

That said, you may find that once you arrive at this breath-taking home, you never want to leave. In a lush setting of gardens, palm trees and potted plants, this home is a delight to behold after a day of travel. Kick off your shoes and head straight to the upper terrace for a glass of Prosecco. From there, you can take in the sweeping views out to sea. Perhaps you’ll go for a dip in the private outdoor swimming pool, and stretch out beside it to dry off in the sun. Alternatively, you could make your way to the ground-floor wellness centre, where you can soak in a Jacuzzi and unwind in the sauna or indoor pool. Book a massage to really indulge. 

The villa is elegant, with everything you might need for a memorable stay in Sicily. Dine in style at the marble-topped table, or feast alfresco in the shade while drinking in the view. Set kids up in the projection room with movies, or gather around the grand piano for a sing-along session. There’s something for everyone at this envy-inducing home. 


The Envy of Etna

From the dining area, you’ve got a stunning view of Mount Etna’s ash-topped peak looming above this fabulous villa. If you’re not swimming laps in the outdoor pool, perhaps take advantage of the full spa within the old walls inside – a Turkish hammam, sauna, salt grotto and Jacuzzi await. Bedrooms are spread across three buildings – the main villa, a separate annexe and a self-contained cottage. Lounges and dining rooms set around old fireplaces whisper of the old world and you can choose to cook in the full kitchen or outside at the barbecue. Let the kids run free on vast lawns turned football pitches or spend the day hiking Etna or visiting the nearby city of Catania. 

The Garden of Etrusco

Brimming with Sicilian charm and warmth, this home is perfect for those looking for a luxurious Italian escape with sea views. Spend your days lounging around in the sun, reading a book or enjoying a cool glass of wine while listening to the hypnotic crash of waves from the neighbouring volcanic rock shore. Take a dip in the pool to cool off before a sumptuous feast of local delicacies out on the veranda looking out over the Ionian Sea. Or relax with a post-workout massage in the spa.

This villa is located very close to Taormina, one of the most exciting towns on the island, where those looking for dining and souvenir-buying opportunities, as well as cosy bars, will not be in want, while the wealth of nearby beaches and quaint little villages will have your curiosity and imagination running amock. 

By The Sea

When we say this villa blends in with its leafy green surroundings, we mean it. A facade coated in ivy, it sits against a backdrop of towering ancient trees atop a hill on the Sicilian coast. The view from the infinity-edge swimming pool is simply stunning – looking out over the dramatic Sicilian coastline as the Mediterranean stretches before you. Wandering the terraced gardens is like the perambulations of yesteryear when glorious villas were flanked by cypress trees and the sea air was a cure-all. Wending your way beneath rose-covered archways, you’ll find the lounge terrace with plush furniture for tipples outdoors.

Inside, you can feel the fact that this place was built in the 19th century. The hand-painted tiled floor and twisting vines on the walls of the vast dining room are a testament to that. There are a number of grand reception rooms and lounges to choose from, giving the group plenty of space to spread out. Each piece of dark wood furniture, gilded book and upholstered armchair feels like an antique carefully selected. An upright piano in the main lounge really sets the scene. Bedrooms are odes to the old world, with vintage gramophones and lacquered dressers and wardrobes. Some come with Jacuzzi tubs in their ensuites. 

The best bit is, this villa is just a fifteen-minute stroll from the courtyard restaurants, hidden cocktails bars and buzzing nightlife of Taormina, yet you can retreat to the peace and quiet of the coast once you’re done exploring.      

The Ivy Facade

This home sits on the mystifying Cyclops Riviera, just a forty-minute drive from Catania and a fifty-minute drive from the park of Mount Etna. Its scenery is nothing short of breathtaking, surrounded by the region's iconic jet-black lava rock and, overlooking the endless blue of the Ionian Sea, boasts direct access to the crystal clear waters.

Though compact, the interior is stylish and contemporary, providing the perfect base for families and small groups. Floor-to-ceiling windows usher in floods of sunlight while offering glimpses of your stunning surroundings. After a restful slumber, prepare breakfast in the fully equipped kitchen and spend mornings on the private terrace, sipping coffee and tucking into pastries in the crisp sea breeze.

With plenty of outdoor space and shared amenities, this home beckons you to unwind in the splendour of your surroundings. The outdoor pool offers a glistening oasis from the Sicilian sun, while a lush lawn boasts a play area and trampoline – perfect for the little ones.

Obsidian Odyssey

Nestled inside a tranquil community on the slopes of Mount Etna, this handsome villa makes for a great place to base yourself while visiting this part of Sicily. Just a short drive from Taormina and the surrounding beaches, you’ll be well-connected while at the same time enjoying the perks of the home’s rural setting. We are particularly impressed by the outdoor areas, which feature a pool set amidst a landscape garden and plenty of space for catching the rays and enjoying alfresco feasts. The views are also pretty stunning and can be enjoyed both from inside and from the garden and terrace. 

The Blue Hills

Perched at the base of Mount Etna, two kilometres from the mountain town of Milo, this villa embraces old-world Sicily. It’s an easy drive to the buzzing old port city of Catania too. The freshest seafood is landed in Catania every day, and the lively central market is surrounded by seafood joints. The volcanic hills surrounding this villa are home to vineyards creating ancient wines.

Once you’ve got your fresh catch of the day and bottle of local white, head back to the villa to cook at the brick-built kitchen outdoors and serve at one of the myriad terraces or patios with dining tables and lounges. This is what la dolce vita is all about. Within the rest of the 21,000 square metres of Mediterranean gardens, you’ll find sculptures and artworks in homage to Sicily’s ancient history. There are woodlands filled with oak, chestnut and cherry trees and a sparkling swimming pool for a cooling dip.

The main house is a converted olive oil mill and was once home to a famous Italian singer. Indeed, the main sitting room and kitchen feel warehouse-big with a high, wooden ceiling and arched, art deco windows opening up to the patio. You can tell a creative used to live here as the walls are adorned with unique works of art and an upright piano stands pride of place. The second lounge is set around an old fireplace and embraced the old world with its oil paintings and dark wood antiques. When it comes to bedtime, there’s a separate guest house for two, out in the woodlands for those that like their privacy. The main bedroom is like a suite with its own seating area and private terrace.  

The Ancient Olive Press

This villa is all about the views. Perched on Sicily’s east coast, it looks out over the Ionian Sea, with Mount Etna rising in the distance. Days are spent padding between the pool, shaded terraces, and sun-drenched loungers. Inside, it’s all cool marble floors, clean lines, and a kitchen made for long, lazy meals – whether you’re perched at the breakfast bar or gathered around the table. Taormina is just 7km away, but here you’ll enjoy the same cinematic backdrop without the crowds. And when the beach calls? It’s only 4km from your door.

Sicilian Heights

Found at the foot of the iconic Mount Etna, this modern villa has the mountain to one side and ocean views to the other. The panoramic landscapes are, in part, what drew our eye to this family pad, but we also like this home's proximity to the Alcantara Gorges and coast. To make the most of the Sicilian climate, there's a private pool and ample outdoor seating – including sun loungers on the balcony that would be perfect for sunset cocktails – all surrounded by citrus trees. Throw in spacious rooms and plenty of natural light, and you can see what's to like here.

The Blue Haze

Nestled along the cliffs of Taormina, this orange-sherbert-hued villa offers impressive views of the rocky precipices that drop down to the Ionian, sea-forming coves and the golden beaches of Isola. With encumbering mountain views, enjoy tranquil moments amidst the Mediterranean fauna and flora that fragrances the air. With a private pool, bright traditional living space and a spectacular view of the surrounding landscape, this Sicilian villa ticks all the boxes for a coastal retreat.

With prime Sicilian temperatures, it’s not surprising this home promotes outdoor living. This home has a hydromassage pool, sleek daybeds for siestas under the shade of the palm trees and a cool, covered patio which is perfect for balmy, alfresco dinners.

When you need a repose from the sun, retreat to the inside where you’ll find an oasis of amenities. The traditional design aesthetic blends with minimal modern furnishings and pops of orange to create a laid-back vibe that synchronises with the region’s coastal spirit. The plush sofas are a perfect spot to read or listen to a podcast, whilst the dynamic kitchen is a delight to prepare a classic Sicilian dish of Pasta con le Sarde in.  
 
If you want to get out and explore, beeline for Isola Bella to admire the island’s nature reserve and shallow blue waters (only a twenty-minute drive away) or drive an hour to indulge the day at Mount Etna, where you’ll be spoilt with volcanic landscapes, unfolding vineyards and lava flow caves.

Shades of Tangerine

Out-of-this-world vistas take centre stage at this former watchtower overlooking the glistening bay of Isola Bella. Expertly converted with design-savvy interiors, the three-storey home takes full advantage of its stunning location.
