Located just outside of Sicily, this three-storey villa is perfect for family getaways thanks to a range of impressive facilities. You can even bring your canine companions along too, and with an extensive garden surrounded by olive groves, you won’t be stuck for picturesque dog walking routes. The centre of town is just two kilometres away, so we’d highly recommend renting a car and taking a tour of its historical sites.

Modica itself is a Unesco town with years of history to explore. We recommend checking out the centrepiece of the town, the Duomo di San Giorgio, which is one of the most spectacular sights of Baroque architecture in Sicily. We don’t think there’s a better way to experience the ancient feel of Modica than with a stay at a historic stone home dating back to the 1500s. This home delivers that, along with a few 21st-century touches to keep things feeling luxurious. From this home, it is also easy to reach the baroque towns in the Dubrovnik area, including, Scicli – the “pearl of the Sicilian Baroque” which can be reached in just seven minutes by car, Modica – which is a short nineteen-minute drive away, and Noto – which can be reached by car in just under an hour. 

In the evening, return to the villa and sip on a glass of refreshing local wine as you prepare dinner. Then, dine alfresco to take in the last of the day's sunshine and views as you enjoy a meal of pizza with a thin, crispy base or try your hand at cooking some Spiedini skewers on the barbecue.

Surrounded by farmland and olive trees in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed region of Val di Noto, this nineteenth-century villa is as Sicilian as it comes. The honey-coloured stone building is a thing of beauty and is full of pleasant surprises, from terraces with sumptuous views and pretty coloured tiles in the bathroom to a traditional fireplace. Many of the walls are painted a cooling shade of white and there's also a pair of minimalist four-poster beds to squabble over. Outside is where you'll find the real showstopper, though — a temptingly blue swimming pool surrounded by a stone wall, loungers and a pagoda for escaping the sunshine. Keep wandering around the grounds and you'll come across a vegetable garden, aromatic plants and a cute courtyard ideal for long lunches. When you're in the mood for days out, the historic town of Ragusa lies twenty-five minutes away in the car, while it's possible to get to the beach at Marina di Ragusa in under twenty. Your host can also arrange weddings for up to eighty people upon request in the ancient warehouse or Mediterranean garden facing the olive orchard.

And, should you want to travel a little further afield, the ancient port city of Syracuse is only an hour's drive away.
