From the dining table on the terrace, you can gaze out over the sea and there are plenty of seating nooks in the shade. The real highlight is the private staircase leading down the cliffside to a rocky swim platform set up with loungers and parasols. Just remember, it’s quite a climb back up to the villa. The living room is huge, so big groups will feel at home here, and a wall of windows shows off the sea view inside. Tiles in the bathrooms might be a little garish for some, but who cares when the outside space comes with that view.

Clearly, we're not alone in our thinking, as the tower was recently used for the filming of the James Bond film 'Quantum of Solace' — well, if it's good enough for Mr Bond, it's certainly enough to get us shaken and stirred.

A stunning harbour view is the highlight of this apartment in Porto Ercole. Whether you're waking up in the main bedroom, tucking into an Italian feast around the dining table, or enjoying an alfresco glass of wine on the balcony, you'll have the perfect vantage point to watch the boats roll in. Design-wise, the decor is simple, but it lets the scenery do all the talking. The third bedroom is also pretty small, so we think it's a better fit for children. As for location, it's no surprise that you'll be walking distance from all you need – perfect for a car-free holiday.

With its unfettered Tyrrhenian Sea views, manicured gardens and close proximity to the seaside, this homespun villa is a place for slowing down and switching off. Inside, it’s rustic and charming – expect timber beams, terracotta floors, retro pine wood and cosy bedrooms with patterned bedspreads that ensure a peaceful night’s sleep. If you can tear yourself away, you’ll need a car to get around – but with the islands of Giglio, Montecristo, Elba and Corsica visible from the villa, you’ll soon be itching to get out and explore.

If you love the artsy side of life, you'll thrive in this contemporary loft. Colourful art pieces stand out, with some splashes of colour added by the feature walls. Natural light pours in through the large kitchen windows – the perfect chance to watch the morning birds fly by. You even get a lovely view of the courtyard from the bedroom too. 

Spend the day at Constanti winery – this is where your host works, so she will be more than happy to give you a tour of the place. Beautiful vineyards surround the loft and a wide range of wineries to sample some of the tastiest glasses of red.

Return home to sit at the dining table while the scent of a home-cooked Italian meal fills the room from the nearby kitchen. After you've eaten, pick a book off of the shelf, and snuggle up on the sofa while the moonlight shines through the windows. You'll be just 900 metres from the beach, and the views are downright blissful – they stretch across the sea to the island of Formiche di Burano. Everyone will appreciate the swimming pool, and the terrace makes the perfect spot for a nightcap as the sun goes down. Each bedroom has its own entrance, and the one on the lower ground floor is ideal for those who don't mind steps. When you're ready to explore, you'll find the small village of Ansedonia nearby, as well as Orbetello, which is a ten-minute drive away.
