From the hammam, games room and gym in the basement to the main bedroom with its own walk-in wardrobe and living area – plus access to the terrace and hot tub – it culminates in a private helipad out in the garden, perfect for those who want to arrive in style.

Away from home, discover the port town of Piombino. Its historic compact historic centre is easy to explore on foot, and there are some excellent seafood restaurants and traditional taverns to choose from. From here, you can also board a ferry over to the island of Elba, best known as Napoleon's place of exile. Elsewhere, the city of Pisa and its iconic leaning tower is a little over an hour away, while the cradle of the Renaissance, Florence, is closer to two.

When it comes to picking a spot from which to soak up the sunshine, you’re utterly spoiled for choice. The home is surrounded by 10 hectares of land – think enchanting woodland, Mediterranean scrub, and ancient olive groves. Take your place with a double espresso by the pond or chill out on the terrace with a Campari and tonic at sundown. 

Spend long, hot afternoons swimming unhurried laps in the infinity pool, stopping now and again to refuel with delicious Italian fare in the rustic yet elegant dining space. If you’re keen to explore your surroundings, jump in the car and take the ten-minute drive to the seaside. Rimigliano Coastal Park was one of our favourite places to while away the hours.

Step inside, and you'll find a gorgeous space that reflects its rustic location perfectly. There are plenty of traditional touches, from the exposed brick and wooden ceiling beams, to the distressed wood dining table. Pick up some local ingredients, and practice your Italian-style cooking in the kitchen – it's a homely space where you can whip up the perfect risotto. When you've finished eating and sipping some Pinot Grigio, you can get comfortable in the peaceful bedroom, for a restful night's sleep. 

Although petite, Suvereto is packed with cultural delights. Wander through the labyrinth of passageways dating back to the medieval era, and stop off in the family-run restaurants for delicious pasta and pizza. Don't miss the Aldobrandesca Fortress and the beautiful Romanesque church, both just a few minutes away from your front door. A twenty-minute drive will bring you to the Etruscan Coast, with its hidden coves and pinewood forests – so, whether you want to lie on a beach or take an invigorating hike through the woods, you'll be very happy here.

Inside a turn-of-the-century castle among towering trees and olive groves, locations don't get much more romantic than this. There's no lift here, so you'll be climbing several flights of stairs, but we think it's a price worth paying – the private terrace lets you look out over the sea and local area. Being in a small town, you'll find a handful of eateries nearby, while the shared alfresco space is ideal for rustic feasts. There's no parking here, though your host can arrange airport transfers for an additional fee. If you are looking to explore, consider taking a ferry to nearby Elba.

This Suvereto apartment may be small, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in charm. Walls of exposed stone, sumptuous antique beds and ceilings adorned with wooden beams paint the picture of a traditional Tuscan holiday. Yet, in spite of the compact size, the kitchen and bathroom are sleek, stylish and modern, just the ticket for two. The window seat is our favourite spot – in the mornings, there's nothing better than enjoying an espresso as the smell of fresh-baked bread rises from the bakery below.

One of Tuscany's hidden gems, Suvereto is rife with old-world character – picture medieval walls, cobblestone streets and sidewalk cafes overlooking ancient churches. We love the laid-back pace of life here, but with vineyards, hiking trails and beaches like Spiaggia di Rimigliano all a short drive away, you'll be well-placed for exploring, too.

This home is a truly secluded spot only accessible via a 3km long gravel road. With plenty of space for you plus thirteen of your favourite people, it's the perfect hideaway in the rolling Tuscan countryside. 

The villa's interior retains plenty of its traditional features, from the terracotta tiles and wooden ceiling beams to the brick archway leading into the kitchen. Embrace your inner nonna and whip up your favourite Italian dishes in this charming space, or ask your host to arrange a private chef to take on catering duties. The farm produces its own Tuscan olive oil and honey, and there is even a top rated restaurant where you can sample some of the farm’s produce. Days can be spent riding the horses from the stable, exploring the area by E-bike, or taking a cookery class at the restaurant, where you might learn how to make fresh pasta or cantuccini. A sixteenth-century villa in the hilly outskirts of Florence that, at times, has been both a stables and a nightclub, Thermae is one of the most spectacular places we’ve seen in Italy. Its restoration has been a labour of love for the host, Giovanni, and the way that he’s incorporated technology into the original structure is simply impressive. There’s too much to describe here, but know that everything's been taken care of. And if we did have to choose one thing that stood out, it might have to be the pool, hidden away in the vaults, and only accessible through a trapdoor.

Nestled in the picturesque Maremma countryside, this home boasts a huge garden with an infinity pool and hot tub, with glimpses of the Tuscan Archipelago visible from the barbecue area. Spread across several levels with lots of stairs throughout, guests with limited mobility will be better off staying elsewhere. One of the bedrooms is in the home's dependence, offering a little extra privacy. We think this is ideal for a couple or small family travelling with a larger group. You'll need a car for getting to Montioni Nature Park or the town of Suvereto, but there's more than enough parking space to go around.

With its romantic setting and unbeatable location, this would be the perfect getaway for couples.

​​Restored by an Italian architect with a gentle touch, this villa has been updated and split into more modern apartments, but without ever compromising on the original charm. By honouring the villa's history – and thereby retaining its character – the home feels traditionally Tuscan with its terracotta tiles and wooden beams. Walk barefoot across the floors to savour the coolness of those tiles on hot days, or light a fire in the wood-burning stove and stare up at the beams, imagining what life would’ve been like here. Nonnas rolling out pastry for tortellini, children helping churn gelato, wine flowing, and bowls of food changing hands in a celebration of ingredients, and life. You might even wish to recreate that – a holiday well spent.

Alternatively, spend lazy afternoons sitting under the vines outside as you watch the sunset on the horizon. Head out to authentic Italian pizzerias for pizza and gnocchi, or make a gelato run before exploring the surroundings.

We recommend hiring a car here as there's plenty to do and see within a short drive. The historic town of Lucca with its colourful buildings and ancient monuments is only twenty-six-minutes away, and the lovable Pisa with its must-see leaning tower is a thirty-eight-minute drive. No matter where you choose to go, you'll find vibrant Italian culture to soak up (and so much good food). The home itself is located in the village of Sant’Andrea di Compito – a place known for its stunning Camellia trees dating back to the 1800s. We recommend wandering its streets and taking in the medieval charm.

A modern build, the home was finished back in 2002 and thanks to its high-quality finishings and construction techniques, it doesn't appear to have aged a day. Either that or like a new pair of Levi jeans – it's only getting better with age. Its interior welcomes modern lines and neutral colours in keeping with the tranquil setting outside in the garden.

Wander around the vineyards, visit Castellina in Chianti (less than ten minutes away by car), then come back home for a barbecue under the pergola paired, naturally, with a glass of Chianti. 

First Of The Summer Wine

This apartment shares its location with a family-run farm in pretty Montespertoli. The family produces wine and olive oil from a picturesque spot amid the gentle Chianti hills, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and woods – it’s delightfully rustic. 

The apartment sits within these grounds, benefitting from the large garden and beautiful views. It has its own private garden too, just off the bedroom – the perfect romantic setting for a glass of wine and some stargazing. Traditional features like stone walls and a terracotta floor add to the romance of the apartment, as does the four-poster bed. 

When you’re not exploring the surrounding woodland and countryside on foot, you might like to venture further afield to take in more of wonderful Tuscany. The medieval town of San Gimignano is forty-one minutes away by car, and it takes forty-seven minutes to get to Siena. Wander through these historic towns with a gelato, taking in the architecture and shopping for keepsakes. When you return to the apartment, enjoy an alfresco dinner while admiring the view – it's the ideal way to round off your day. 


A Glass Of Chianti

Buried deep in the rolling hills of Tuscany, with idyllic rural views stretching as far as the eye can see, this villa in Montecatini Val di Cecina is achingly beautiful inside and out. Combining stone walls and wooden beams with modern furnishings and stylish decor, this one offers a unique stay experience with plenty of luxury touches to boot. 

We particularly love the contemporary modular sofa, artistic lighting and Asian wall art that blends with the handmade wood and antique fireplace to create a well-balanced, zen space to relax after an explorative day driving up and down the winding hillside roads. Cook up a storm in the sleek kitchen, before tucking into a big group meal in the dining room with funky decorative details – like the wooden bookshelves and Asian-influenced objects. 

But while we adore the interiors, our favourite spot has to be down by the glistening pool. Whether you're enjoying an alfresco lunch on the covered terrace, cooling off with a quick dip in the pool, or enjoying an aperitif under the canopy, you'll be able to admire the incredible green vistas. 

When you're ready to explore, there's a host of charming hamlets and villages to discover, including Volterra and Pomarance – both less than thirty minutes' drive away. 

Asian Fusion

Built in local stone, this renovated home is packed with character features, such as chestnut wood beams and handcrafted terracotta floors, which blend with modern luxuries. There are two living rooms here and there’s an exercise room which is on the lower floor. Outside, there's a dining area, a pergola with an alfresco lounge and an infinity pool with panoramic views of the Tuscan hills. Location-wise, this home is a short drive from the thermal springs of Terme di Saturnia. The beaches of the Tyrrhenian coast, such as Giannella Beach, are also reachable in around half an hour by car.
