We recommend a car to explore the area with ease – the Medieval village of Trequanda is just 5km away.

Spend mornings idly relaxing underneath the warm Tuscan sun by the stunning 20-metre lap pool or recharging in the sauna, before cycling to the nearby village of Montisi. Take a half-hour drive to the famous vineyards of Montepulciano and bring a few bottles of vino back with you – to be chilled in the home's wine cellar and enjoyed out on the terrace, as you look out across the medieval ruins of Montelifrè Castle. In years gone by, this building in the countryside surrounding Siena was a farmhouse. Today, however, those paying a visit to the address will find a really rather dreamy Tuscan getaway.

We're willing to wager the first things that guests notice upon arrival is the invitingly blue swimming pool that sits in the middle of the garden, which in turn, is surrounded by beautiful views of Val d'Orcia — a UNESCO World Heritage Site, no less. The panorama is no less spectacular from underneath the home's shady verandah, either.

Inside, there are traditional aspects, like the wooden ceiling beams and terracotta tiling underfoot, but the white walls and furnishings add a contemporary flourish, too. It must be said that the kitchen is modest in size, but there's also a barbecue in case you fancy cooking alfresco.

There is a recently added sauna, minipool and chromotherapy hot tub for those looking to fully relax. 

If you're hoping to dine out, there are a handful of restaurants in the closest town of Monteroni d'Arbia ten minutes' drive away, as well as a much wider choice in the medieval city of Siena, which takes about half an hour to reach in the car. You're well covered for countryside walks in the surrounding hills that will help you work up an appetite, too.

For a taste of authentic Tuscan living, this holiday home is a great choice. This apartment is one of six, renovated from a 15th-century structure by a historically conscious architect. The result of the renovation is an apartment that boasts classic Tuscan design with modern amenities and comfort – you can dine beneath wooden beams and stay cool thanks to the terracotta tiles. 

Outside, a pretty patio boasts a wood-fired pizza oven and alfresco seating. After a day spent in the sunshine, it’s delightful to sit in the shade of the trees and sip local wine while the aroma of pizza fills the air. 

This is a restful home on the outskirts of the village of Brenna, which is just five minutes away on foot. If you need to cool down, you might stroll five minutes to Stazione Balneare Merse where you can swim from the river beach. Of course, the apartment is also in a great location for exploring Tuscany, whether you fancy touring the vineyards or seeing the galleries and museums of the cities. It takes twenty minutes to drive to Siena, making it a perfect day trip.

We love the open-plan living area, a free-flowing space primed for relaxation with ample seating, a delightfully-equipped country kitchen and a majestic stone fireplace. Down the hall, three sumptuous sleeping quarters promise restful slumbers and, through timber-framed windows, postcard-worthy views of your glorious surroundings.

Outside, the peaceful shared courtyard, furnished with dining furniture and a hot tub, beckons you to unwind in the sun. Enjoy an alfresco breakfast here before a day of adventure. Take a stroll through the town, enjoy a morning swim in the Merse River, or hike through the wooded Alto Merse Nature Reserve, just twenty minutes away on foot.
