The first thing you'll notice about this grand Tuscan villa is how it has been wonderfully restored with modern amenities, while still retaining its historic features. Inside, your host’s 20th-century family heirlooms give the home a personal touch, while original wooden beams adorn each ceiling and provide a rustic feel. Surrounding the villa, the grounds are the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee in the sun, and there's also a dining area outside under the pergola next to the original horse stable where you can tuck into breakfast. When you're not picnicking on the lawn, drive five minutes into nearby Lucca to explore the historic city. Take a walk on the Renaissance-era walls and try the city's traditional sweet bread, Buccellato. Stock up on local produce at one of the city's outdoor markets, and return to your villa to fire up the pizza oven. End your evening with a glass of local wine outside as dusk falls across the countryside.

Enjoy leisurely strolls along the top of the walls, which offer stunning views of the surrounding Tuscan countryside. The city's main square, Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, is a must-see and just a few hundred metres away. Additionally, the Basilica di San Frediano, the Cathedral of San Martino, and the Guinigi Tower are all shining examples of its awe-inspiring architecture.

If you find yourself in the mood for socialising, the large outdoor dining area is the perfect place for an alfresco dinner. The location is fairly remote and well suited to those who are keen to explore the countryside and vineyards, but if you are looking for a day trip, Lucca isn’t too far away.

Budding chefs will love trying out classic Italian recipes – just like nonna used to make – in the beautiful kitchen, before serving up their creations outside on the terrace. The surrounding village has a couple of local restaurants and cafés within walking distance, and it's a perfectly peaceful area where you can truly relax. Plus, the beautiful Renaissance city of Lucca is just 3kms away – pick up a tub of gelato and spend a day strolling through the cobbled streets.

And in the evening pad around your extraordinary living room like royalty. Decorated in a classical style, with breathtaking frescoes and three sumptuous sofas, it's the heart of the home and our favourite room – although it's a close-run thing between this and the romantic master bedroom.
