It’s light and airy with lots of character features, but we should probably mention that the bathroom is a bit dated. And although there’s a lift here there’s still a flight of stairs to climb. We’re sure you’ll love the location here. It’s situated between the vibrant Piazza San Michele and the Via Fillungo, so you’ll have plenty of boutiques and restaurants on your doorstep.

When lovingly restoring this historic Tuscan farmhouse, the hosts chose to keep certain period features, such as the brickwork and wooden beams. However, they also oversaw some pretty impressive additions.

Obviously, we have to start with the outdoor swimming pool made from local stone, which sits in the middle of the expansive grounds. A solarium complete with loungers and umbrellas can be found conveniently alongside. As if that wasn't enough, there's also a gazebo just outside the back door where you can enjoy alfresco feasts that stretch long into the evening. Inside the home, you'll find walls painted in pleasing pastels, a modern kitchen dominated by clean lines and some eye-catching feature lighting.

Surrounding the address, there's a stream and woodland for tranquil strolls, as well as plenty of nature reserves nearby. You'll also find a wealth of attractions in the towns of Lucca and Pisa, both reached in just over twenty minutes by car.

Perched high above the beautiful medieval city of Lucca – just over two-miles drive away – this 17th century villa offers a plethora of charming dining areas and quaint living spaces. The interior benefits from eloquent floral furnishings, high vaulted ceilings with old renaissance arches and opulent touches. Lined by cypress trees, the pristine swimming pool really catches the eye, and a veranda covered patio area overlooking picturesque views of the Tuscan hills is truly special. Our favourite spot is hidden in a quiet little pocket around the back of the villa, where a charming woodland dining area can be found – with draping leafy oaks, glowing candle lanterns, and seating for the whole party. Another dining spot can be found steps away – sun-dappled in the early mornings, this is a perfect place for al fresco breakfasts. When you’re not hosting tea parties or sipping on something a little more bubbly, venture to the sweeping hills for seriously scenic hiking trails – that will have you grinning like a Cheshire Cat.

But there are surprisingly modern pockets in this medieval wonderland. This apartment displays 21st-century sensibilities, while fully immersed in the historic walled city of Lucca. It’s less than a two-minute walk from the bustling main square, Piazza Napoleone, and seven from the wine bars and restaurants of the Piazza dell'Anfiteatro. And inside, traditional meets modern in an incredibly stylish manner. We love the bright, white lounge and open-plan kitchen, where vintage-style armchairs meet the angular lines of the high breakfast bar. Textiles such as velvet and rattan combine with wooden furniture to create a unique space, wrapped in understated luxury. For striking vistas of surrounding architecture like the palace and San Giusto church, head out to your private, covered balcony. The warm, terracotta tones make this spot feel superbly cosy. We recommend a chilled glass of chianti, some fresh Italian bread, and juicy local olives to set the scene. You’ll never tire of these views, it truly feels as though you’re ensconced in the surrounding architecture.

With a great address in the heart of Lucca with its well-preserved Renaissance walls, this studio-style apartment is an ideal city retreat for two. Step out onto cobblestone streets, and you'll find an array of restaurants within a short stroll. Or music lovers can visit Casa di Puccini, where the famous opera composer was born. With such a fantastic location, you may hear some street noise during your stay. Unlike many studios, this apartment has a separate kitchen – though there's no oven, there's a hob and microwave. There are plenty of character features here, and the tall ceilings give a sense of space. We love the modern four-poster bed, too – this place is ideal for a romantic break.

You’ll find this elegant abode in the hillside neighbourhood of Monte San Quirico, surrounded by rolling countryside. It’s just 3 kilometres from the old town of Lucca, so you can easily stroll to the Walls and explore the city. When you’re not dining out in fabulous restaurants, shopping, or meandering through the piazzas with a gelato, you might spend your time in the countryside. Hike or cycle through quaint villages, possibly stopping at a vineyard or two. 

Of course, you might also find that you’re entirely content to stay put. This villa is magnificent, after all. Begin each morning with coffee on the terrace, admiring the verdant views. You might spend your time reading and unwinding in the gorgeous lounge, which features a stunning chandelier. Later on, you’ll swim in the above-ground private pool, and dry off on a sun lounger. Doze in the sweetly scented garden, enjoying the peace and quiet. 

In the evening, cook together in the traditional country kitchen, and dine alfresco. The dining area is wonderful, with parasols for when the sun is shining. Sit out late around the table, sharing great food, wine and company under the stars.

Tucked away on the top floor of a historic building in Lucca's charming old town, this chic suite is perfect for a solo traveller looking for their Eat, Pray, Love moment or a couple looking for a romantic retreat.

Beneath its exposed beam ceilings dotted with skylights, you'll find comfortable contemporary furnishings, antique decor and elaborate Renaissance-style touches, all bathed in golden Tuscan sunlight. We loved the elevated shower cubicle behind the bed, though we recognise it won't appeal to everyone. 

Step out, and you'll find yourself within the ancient city walls, which enclose charming streets lined with medieval buildings, quaint shops, and delicious restaurants. Enjoy leisurely strolls along the top of the walls, which offer stunning views of the surrounding Tuscan countryside. The city's main square, Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, is a must-see and just a few hundred metres away. Additionally, the Basilica di San Frediano, the Cathedral of San Martino, and the Guinigi Tower are all shining examples of its awe-inspiring architecture.

Every inch of the apartment has been decorated with a stylish touch, from the rose-tinted master suite to the boutique office area.
