We think it's pretty easy to see why we picked this home – just look at those views. Overlooking the bay of Nisporto, you'll have everything you need here for a slow-paced Italian escape. The interiors aren't the most exciting, but we like how the home is split across two self-contained apartments (connected by an external staircase), making it an excellent option for friends and families to holiday together while retaining some privacy. We imagine you'll spend most of your time on the terrace, but should you want to venture out, the beach is only 650m away, while the town of Portoferraio is a twenty-minute drive.

The house is one of six rooms and casitas, and guests have access to a vast, crystalline pool that overlooks the rolling hills and vineyards. The farm produces its own Tuscan olive oil and honey, and there is even a top rated restaurant where you can sample some of the farm’s produce. Days can be spent riding the horses from the stable, exploring the area by E-bike, or taking a cookery class at the restaurant, where you might learn how to make fresh pasta or cantuccini. On more relaxed afternoons, treat yourself to a spa or beauty treatment – there is nothing more serene than a massage in the garden, with a gentle breeze and a soundtrack of cicadas.

The outside space is lush and pretty. Roses and lavender have been planted alongside a wealth of trees, making the garden feel like an oasis. In the morning, sip coffee at the table under the gazebo, admiring the views and planning your day. If you’re anything like us, you won’t be able to resist a dip in the hedge-lined swimming pool for long. The apartment has been converted from the old barn of the farm, lovingly transformed into a traditional Tuscan home. You can look forward to wooden beams and shutters, antique furniture, and stunning views of the Tuscan countryside – it’s the perfect rustic escape. A fifteen-minute stroll will take you into the small country village of Vico d’Elsa, where you’ll find a fabulous pizzeria and a restaurant, as well as somewhere to stock up on groceries – ideal if you’re planning to cook on the barbecue. 

San Gimignano and its iconic towers are a twenty-two-minute drive. It’s a wonderful day trip – spend your time meandering around the narrow cobbled streets, stopping to enjoy coffee and gelato in a piazza, and soaking up the atmosphere of this historic town. 

Whether you spend your visit traversing the towns of Tuscany or prefer to stay close to home, you’ll be happy to have chosen this lovely spot. Sip lemonade by the pool as you recline in the sunshine and take in the view. Dine on the covered terrace, and admire the brightly coloured flowers dotted around the property. In the undulating Tuscan countryside, this villa sits atop a hill, right on the ancient oil and wine route through olive groves and vineyards. It’s a fifteen-minute drive from Volterra, a medieval walled town with plenty of farm-to-table restaurants and old churches to explore. And Siena is just under an hour’s drive for a day trip.

Panoramic views take centre stage outdoors, where raised terraces can provide shaded spots for meals outside. From a poolside lounger, you can admire the forest-clad hills around you, before slipping into the turquoise pool to cool off from the sun. Aperitivo is best served on the first-floor terrace, where comfy seating looks out over the countryside.

The villa may have the stone facade and arched windows of a traditional Tuscan farmhouse, but the wall of glass in the living and dining room is a testament to the 21st century. There’s more than enough room for the group to spread out and dine together at two banquet-sized tables inside. Unwind beneath a brick vaulted ceiling in the evening. Chefs will feel right at home in the kitchen – all chrome and steel like the professional kitchens of a Michelin-starred restaurant, but with a wood-topped pasta-making table straight out of a 19th-century farmhouse.

Buried deep in the rolling hills of Tuscany, with idyllic rural views stretching as far as the eye can see, this villa in Montecatini Val di Cecina is achingly beautiful inside and out. Combining stone walls and wooden beams with modern furnishings and stylish decor, this one offers a unique stay experience with plenty of luxury touches to boot. 

We particularly love the contemporary modular sofa, artistic lighting and Asian wall art that blends with the handmade wood and antique fireplace to create a well-balanced, zen space to relax after an explorative day driving up and down the winding hillside roads. Cook up a storm in the sleek kitchen, before tucking into a big group meal in the dining room with funky decorative details – like the wooden bookshelves and Asian-influenced objects. 

But while we adore the interiors, our favourite spot has to be down by the glistening pool. Whether you're enjoying an alfresco lunch on the covered terrace, cooling off with a quick dip in the pool, or enjoying an aperitif under the canopy, you'll be able to admire the incredible green vistas. 

When you're ready to explore, there's a host of charming hamlets and villages to discover, including Volterra and Pomarance – both less than thirty minutes' drive away.

Perched on the cliffs of Populonia, this home offers a picture-perfect Italian escape. Outside, you can soak in the stunning sea views while relaxing on the terrace. Inside, the rooms are simple, fresh and well suited to families in search of ease and comfort. Private parking is available and it’s just a short walk to the nearest restaurants as well as the the Borgo Tower, the Church and the promenade. You’ll also find the beach at Baratti is within easy reach.

This Suvereto apartment may be small, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in charm. Walls of exposed stone, sumptuous antique beds and ceilings adorned with wooden beams paint the picture of a traditional Tuscan holiday. Yet, in spite of the compact size, the kitchen and bathroom are sleek, stylish and modern, just the ticket for two. The window seat is our favourite spot – in the mornings, there's nothing better than enjoying an espresso as the smell of fresh-baked bread rises from the bakery below.

One of Tuscany's hidden gems, Suvereto is rife with old-world character – picture medieval walls, cobblestone streets and sidewalk cafes overlooking ancient churches. We love the laid-back pace of life here, but with vineyards, hiking trails and beaches like Spiaggia di Rimigliano all a short drive away, you'll be well-placed for exploring, too.

Time To Rise

This refurbished farmhouse is essentially two homes in one, perfect for two families travelling together. Both segments of the house have three bedrooms, each with direct access to the lush garden. In the living room, floor-to-ceiling windows lead out to the courtyard and lawns, where there’s a private pool and a pond – ideal for game fishing (provided that the fish is thrown back into the water). The interiors pay homage to the home’s initially intended purpose, as a clubhouse for horse riders to relax in, with paintings of horses adorning the walls, and furnishings that have an old-world charm. Despite the antique bed frames and Moroccan rugs, the home itself feels modern, particularly the suspended fireplace in the heart of the living room, and the sleek kitchen flanked by iron columns and picture-frame windows. Your neighbours are of the equine variety, and with stables next door, guests can book horseback riding lessons, and take a trail ride out on the iconic Tuscan landscape.

 If you're looking to experience a real taste of rural Italy, this villa located just outside of the small town of Bibbona is a Mediterranean dream come true. Set amidst six hectares of green parkland (one of which presents the villa's private garden), prepare to immerse yourself into an abundance of peace and serenity. 

A modern build, the home was finished back in 2002 and thanks to its high-quality finishings and construction techniques, it doesn't appear to have aged a day. Either that or like a new pair of Levi jeans – it's only getting better with age. Its interior welcomes modern lines and neutral colours in keeping with the tranquil setting outside in the garden.

Think olive trees, grassy lawns, and an array of Mediterranean flowers that stand elegantly in pots and flower beds dotted all around. Whether you're by the pool with an Aperol Spritz in hand, swinging in the hammock, playing a game of table football or doing a home workout on the gym equipment under the shaded pergola – enjoy the sweet smell of the perfumed air diffused with every light breeze. 

Positioned just 3 kilometres away from the villages of Casale Marittimo and Bibbona – make the most of the local conveniences, which are within easy reach by car. For the beach, head to Bau Beach – only a thirteen-minute drive away. Meanwhile, you'll find the more happening city of Livorno reachable in just forty-five minutes by car.

This clifftop villa caught our eye for its views across the Tyrrhenian Sea. Located in the coastal town of Punta Ala, you’ll have direct access to the water, via steep private steps from the garden (the trek back up isn’t for the faint-hearted). There are two living rooms here (although the design may not be everyone's cup of tea), and all of the bedrooms are en-suite, so it’s a great option for a group. We love the outdoor spaces most of all – you’ll have a choice of spots to enjoy a morning espresso, alfresco lunch, or sundowner while admiring the panoramas. Location-wise, you'll find a beach, a golf course, and Punta Ala Marina all within a few minute's drive.

Traditional in style, the main thing missing here is an oven – but isn’t that the perfect excuse to dine out on fine Italian cuisine instead? Its famous towers are a must-see in the area, while the local restaurants will cater to your dinner needs.

Spend days unwinding within the tranquil environs of the home and its sprawling gardens filled with mature trees and boasting a lovely fenced swimming pool area. Grab a book and delve into its pages in the shade of one of these trees, or catch some of the Southern Italian sunshine, before dipping into the refreshing waters of the pool as the aromas from the garden's many plants hang heavy in the air. 

Leaving the grounds of the home, you'll find yourself within easy reach of typical towns of the region, including historic Volterra and San Gimignano, as well as Florence and Siena, where you will be able to sample not only the local way of life but also the fabulously flavourful Tuscan cuisine. Or, make your way to one of the numerous nearby trattorias and spend the evening feasting alfresco.

Amid scenic landscapes on the Tuscan hillside, the façade of this home resembles a countryside castle. Meanwhile, the interiors and amenities are just as impressive. With huge expansive terraces and a private swimming pool, taking in views across the valley can be enjoyed at every opportunity.
