This rustic yet refined farmhouse surrounded by Tuscan countryside makes for a restful stay indeed. The interiors are as charming as you would expect – think carved fireplaces, wooden-beamed ceilings and traditional terracotta floors. Outside, the furnished terrace is the perfect place to soak up the sunshine with a glass of wine in hand. Although there isn’t a swimming pool here, there are 50 hectares of grounds to explore and the sandy beaches of Lido di Camaiore are no more than a twenty-minute drive away. 

A Year of Birdsong

Located in the hamlet of La Serra di Lerici, this apartment boasts sea views from the private terrace. And if you fancy a swim in the ocean, it’s just a 1.5-kilometre walk away. The home itself centres around the open-plan living area. While this space is on the smaller side, it has everything you’ll need for a comfortable stay, including a small kitchen to whip up Italian favourites, a dining table, and a sofa – which doubles up as a bed for guests three and four when the home is at full occupancy. And if daytrips are on the itinerary, you’ll be spoilt for choice with Tellaro, Montemarcello, and Sarzana all within a 10-kilometre drive.

Mediterranean Horizons

Situated in Forte dei Marmi, this home boasts an enviable location just five minutes from the town centre and a short stroll from the beach. While the traditional decor in this home may not be everyone’s cup of tea, it’s spacious and comfortable for up to ten guests to spread out across its three floors. The basement games room is sure to be a hit with little ones and grown-ups alike, with a pool table and table football on offer. 

Ode to Tuscany

Rustic Italian fare, picnics on rolling hills, sun-soaked scenery – it could only be the Tuscan countryside. While the lifestyle of this region might conjure up the idea of hearty meals in Nonna’s kitchen, this home offers quite the opposite. Forty minutes away by car from the medieval walled city of Lucca, this villa is another fine example from the medieval era – a former castle. If you’re looking for the royal treatment, you might have found it.

Set among a spectacular array of fruit trees and bushes in its gardens, the scents of lavender, lemon, orange, and rose are thick in the air. With multiple levelled terraces, you can survey your lush kingdom from the top of the castle. You might find yourself particularly drawn to the glimmering, private pool on the lower level. Give your subjects (or family) a wave from the top, before heading down into the historic interiors. 

Exposed masonry, flagstone floors, and vintage furnishings complete the look in the lounge. But the kitchen is surprisingly modern, with glossy chrome fixtures and marble floors keeping that luxe edge. We love the tub in the main bedroom en-suite – the only place fit for VIPs to sip champagne after a long day exploring these Tuscan lands.

Botanic Castle

This stunning holiday home is perfectly positioned in Lido di Camaiore, just moments from the beach. It’s an attractive, modern home-from-home, beautifully decorated in peaceful neutral tones. We love how bright and welcoming this contemporary home is, despite the elegance. Outside, the garden is framed by hedges and palm trees, making it a pretty oasis. Best of all, there’s a Jacuzzi to relax in. There’s also an alfresco dining space – what could be better than dining under the stars before a dip in the Jacuzzi? 

Tropical Palms

This cosy apartment in Lido di Camaiore offers a convenient and peaceful base for your Versilia getaway. While it may not be the largest, the open-plan design makes the most of the space, combining the living room, dining area, and kitchen, with a sofa bed for extra flexibility. Just steps from the beach, you can enjoy the promenade, local cafes, and coastal views. Although it's snug for four guests, the location makes up for it. It’s ideal for couples or small families looking for a relaxing Tuscany escape.

Dolce Salsedine

Charming and practical, this apartment is a splendid choice of base in Lucca. It’s just a short walk from the historic city walls, and close to lots of restaurants and shops. There’s a well-equipped kitchen if you fancy cooking during your stay, and you’ll also have a desk if you need to catch up on work in between sightseeing. We love the style of this home, which blends rustic wooden beams, exposed brick walls, and antique parquet flooring with bold colours and chandeliers. Set in a quiet residential area, it's a dreamy escape from reality, with relaxing shades of white and grey, along with farmhouse styling. We love the romantic bedrooms and the delightful covered terrace – perfect for barbecues after a day on the beach.

On a clear day, you can see as far as La Spezia and Livorno, as well as the islands of Tinetto, La Gorgona and Elba. You can enjoy the vistas from the jacuzzi and fenced garden or the bedroom’s balcony. The open-plan living space has a kitchenette and a wood burner (this room also sleeps guests three and four). If you want to leave this cosy place and explore, the sandy beaches, chic boutiques and restaurants of Forte dei Marmi are a short drive away.

Sea & Island Vistas

Whether you're enjoying a glass of wine on the terrace or floating in the shared swimming pool, the mountain views here are sure to set the scene for an unforgettable stay in the Province of Lucca. Early risers can savour an espresso in the morning sunshine on the terrace and in the evenings, you can fire up the barbecue and dig into an alfresco feast as the day slowly fades. We think it's the definition of relaxing, and the interior is just as cosy, with exposed wooden beams, squishy sofas and a rustic kitchen well-stocked with cookware if you're not up for grilling. 

The location is also excellent, with some of Italy's best seaside towns within easy reach – be it Viareggio and Lido di Camaiore (both twenty minutes by car) or Forte dei Marmi (half-an-hour drive). Or spend the afternoon wandering through Lucca's medieval city centre, admiring the ancient churches and browsing the many independent art galleries – it's a forty-minute drive away.
