If you need to cool down, you might stroll five minutes to Stazione Balneare Merse where you can swim from the river beach. It takes twenty minutes to drive to Siena, making it a perfect day trip.

An open space in a sixteenth-century building, in the hilly outskirts of Florence that, at time at times, has been both a stables and a nightclub, Thermae is one of the most spectacular places we’ve seen in Italy. Its restoration has been a labour of love for the host, Giovanni, and the way that he’s incorporated technology into the original structure is simply impressive. There’s too much to describe here, but know that everything's been taken care of. And if we did have to choose one thing that stood out, it might have to be the pool, hidden away in the vaults, and only accessible through a trapdoor.

Amidst the vineyards and olive groves of Tuscany, this winery estate perfectly embodies the magic of its location. Enjoy idyllic views and slow days relaxing by the private pool. There’s an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven for memorable evenings under the stars. Inside, the rooms are set across the main house and the adjoining cottage – making this a great option for groups and families looking to stretch out and spend quality time together. Keen cooks will love the modern chef's kitchen for preparing alfresco suppers – though if you feel like dining out, the nearby village of Volpaia and the market town of Radda are both just a short drive away. You will need to hire a car to get around here, and the drive will often be hilly and uneven.

In the main villa, it’s a vision of Tuscan farmhouse charm with several lounges to choose from. We love the ancient hearth turned into a secluded reading nook.
