This charming apartment is nestled in the picture-perfect village of Suvereto. Cute and cosy, it's ideal for couples looking for a romantic getaway, or a solo traveller who wants a tranquil base when exploring the wonders of Tuscany.

Step inside, and you'll find a gorgeous space that reflects its rustic location perfectly. There are plenty of traditional touches, from the exposed brick and wooden ceiling beams, to the distressed wood dining table. Pick up some local ingredients, and practice your Italian-style cooking in the kitchen – it's a homely space where you can whip up the perfect risotto. When you've finished eating and sipping some Pinot Grigio, you can get comfortable in the peaceful bedroom, for a restful night's sleep. 

Although petite, Suvereto is packed with cultural delights. Wander through the labyrinth of passageways dating back to the medieval era, and stop off in the family-run restaurants for delicious pasta and pizza. Don't miss the Aldobrandesca Fortress and the beautiful Romanesque church, both just a few minutes away from your front door. A twenty-minute drive will bring you to the Etruscan Coast, with its hidden coves and pinewood forests – so, whether you want to lie on a beach or take an invigorating hike through the woods, you'll be very happy here.

This Suvereto apartment may be small, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in charm. Walls of exposed stone, sumptuous antique beds and ceilings adorned with wooden beams paint the picture of a traditional Tuscan holiday. Yet, in spite of the compact size, the kitchen and bathroom are sleek, stylish and modern, just the ticket for two. The window seat is our favourite spot – in the mornings, there's nothing better than enjoying an espresso as the smell of fresh-baked bread rises from the bakery below.

One of Tuscany's hidden gems, Suvereto is rife with old-world character – picture medieval walls, cobblestone streets and sidewalk cafes overlooking ancient churches. We love the laid-back pace of life here, but with vineyards, hiking trails and beaches like Spiaggia di Rimigliano all a short drive away, you'll be well-placed for exploring, too.

Inside a turn-of-the-century castle among towering trees and olive groves, locations don't get much more romantic than this. There's no lift here, so you'll be climbing several flights of stairs, but we think it's a price worth paying – the private terrace lets you look out over the sea and local area. Being in a small town, you'll find a handful of eateries nearby, while the shared alfresco space is ideal for rustic feasts. There's no parking here, though your host can arrange airport transfers for an additional fee. If you are looking to explore, consider taking a ferry to nearby Elba.

Perched on a hill overlooking the Tuscan countryside, this 500-year-old Italian castle is kitted out for huge group gatherings, celebrations, and luxurious family get-togethers. It's in the middle of a sprawling estate, flanked by olive trees and grapevines, yet it's only one kilometre from Venturina Terme, so you're not completely out in the sticks. 

When you’re not lounging on the beaches of San Vincenzo, a ten-minute drive away, there's a private pool and Jacuzzi to cool off in, and the gorgeous patios and lawns can be transformed into the perfect Tuscan wedding venue. Period furniture and oak-panelled walls lined with oil portraits make it feel as though this place hasn't changed since the Grand Duke of Tuscany called it home.

Nestled in the picturesque Maremma countryside, this home boasts a huge garden with an infinity pool and hot tub, with glimpses of the Tuscan Archipelago visible from the barbecue area. Spread across several levels with lots of stairs throughout, guests with limited mobility will be better off staying elsewhere. One of the bedrooms is in the home's dependence, offering a little extra privacy. We think this is ideal for a couple or small family travelling with a larger group. You'll need a car for getting to Montioni Nature Park or the town of Suvereto, but there's more than enough parking space to go around.

When it comes to picking a spot from which to soak up the sunshine, you’re utterly spoiled for choice. The home is surrounded by 10 hectares of land – think enchanting woodland, Mediterranean scrub, and ancient olive groves. Take your place with a double espresso by the pond or chill out on the terrace with a Campari and tonic at sundown. 

Spend long, hot afternoons swimming unhurried laps in the infinity pool, stopping now and again to refuel with delicious Italian fare in the rustic yet elegant dining space. If you’re keen to explore your surroundings, jump in the car and take the ten-minute drive to the seaside. Rimigliano Coastal Park was one of our favourite places to while away the hours.

Dive deeper, and you'll discover luxurious touches at every turn. Away from home, discover the port town of Piombino. Its historic compact historic centre is easy to explore on foot, and there are some excellent seafood restaurants and traditional taverns to choose from. From here, you can also board a ferry over to the island of Elba, best known as Napoleon's place of exile. Elsewhere, the city of Pisa and its iconic leaning tower is a little over an hour away, while the cradle of the Renaissance, Florence, is closer to two.

This home is a truly secluded spot only accessible via a 3km long gravel road. With plenty of space for you plus thirteen of your favourite people, it's the perfect hideaway in the rolling Tuscan countryside. 

The villa's interior retains plenty of its traditional features, from the terracotta tiles and wooden ceiling beams to the brick archway leading into the kitchen. Embrace your inner nonna and whip up your favourite Italian dishes in this charming space, or ask your host to arrange a private chef to take on catering duties. You'll love dining outside on the terrace, as you admire the stunning views across the hills. And, there's plenty more outdoor space to enjoy – plunge into the swimming pool before drying off on a sun lounger or enjoy some peace and quiet with a coffee on the balcony. 

We don't blame you if you never want to leave this little slice of heaven, but there is plenty to do and see in the surrounding area. The historic villages of Campiglia Marittima is just four minutes away by car, where you can wander through cobbled streets and visit family-run restaurants. If you fancy a day at the beach, you can drive to the sandy shoreline of Spiaggia di Rimigliano in just 20km away, and there are some stunning coastal walks nearby too.

Created from the oldest part of the farmhouse, this apartment has a raft of original features from vaulted ceilings to stone walls. This home caught our eye for its peaceful location in the Italian countryside, surrounded by fields and vineyards. While you’ll feel like you’ve got away from it all here, you’re only a 6-kilometre drive from the nearest town for stocking up on supplies. And if you fancy a daytrip, historic Massa Marittima is 10 kilometres away. The home itself boasts a private pool, a choice of outdoor seating areas, and countryside views. While the traditional decor inside won’t be to everyone’s tastes, we think the exposed wooden beams and stone archways give the home heaps of character.

This cosy apartment lies in the heart of Massa Marittima, a Tuscan hidden gem. You won't find wi-fi here, and the decor is quite vintage with a style that might not be for everyone, but your host can provide a cot and high chair here, making it a great choice for families looking for a slower-paced holiday. You'll be just a five-minute walk from the centre of town with its local cafes and restaurants, and if you're driving then the golden sandy beaches of Follonica are just 20km away.

Here you'll be just a twenty-minute drive from the pretty town of Castagneto Carducci, and it's just a little further to its wide sandy beach. And of course, with a location this spectacular, it's impossible not to want to get out and see what the Tuscan wilds have to offer. Reconnecting with nature at this home is as simple as grabbing some comfortable walking shoes and a bottle of water and heading on out. There is plenty to see, and with many small villages dotting the landscape, it might even be possible to find a cafe or tavern along the way.

This charming apartment is in the old town of Colle di Val d'Elsa, a typically medieval region of Tuscany famous for crystal glass production. It’s a ten-minute stroll into the centre where you’ll find restaurants, cafés and archaeological museums beyond the ancient town walls. Further afield, the city of Siena is a half-hour drive away, ideal for a day trip.

The apartment itself is housed in a striking 16th-century building just outside the bridge that leads to il Castello. Wood beams on display hark back to the building’s roots, but the decor is decidedly modern. Vibrant modern art is displayed above the plush, L-shaped sofa and the kitchen is a sleek space of white cabinets. The best bit is the view from French-style windows, which shows off golden fields and hills, even though you’re a short walk from the town centre.

This elegant home in Tuscany is in a dreamy spot in a valley, in a countryside setting that leads to absolute relaxation. The villa is full of character, with antique furniture and wooden beams, in addition to mesmerising views. 

The outside space is lush and pretty. Roses and lavender have been planted alongside a wealth of trees, making the garden feel like an oasis. In the morning, sip coffee at the table under the gazebo, admiring the views and planning your day. If you’re anything like us, you won’t be able to resist a dip in the hedge-lined swimming pool for long. In the evening, set up outside at the long dining table. You might like to arrange for a local chef to come and cook for you – that way you can enjoy a cocktail hour on the terrace before dining as the sun sets beyond the valley. 

The villa is only a short walk along the river to the centre of peaceful Poggibonsi, so you can easily dine out in the local restaurants or grab a gelato. Montemorli vineyard is just a twenty-minute walk up the hill, while the medieval beauty of San Gimignano is a mere twenty-one-minute drive away. Slightly further afield, you can be in Siena in thirty minutes, and Florence in an hour.

It is 35km from Florence, making a day trip to the city easy. While you are there, be sure to sample some of the excellent wines from the region. After a day of exploring, kick back on the sofa in your opulent living room, before retreating to the serene calm of the bedroom for a perfect night’s sleep. With its romantic setting and unbeatable location, this would be the perfect getaway for couples.

If you love the artsy side of life, you'll thrive in this contemporary loft. Colourful art pieces stand out, with some splashes of colour added by the feature walls. Natural light pours in through the large kitchen windows – the perfect chance to watch the morning birds fly by. You even get a lovely view of the courtyard from the bedroom too. 

Spend the day at Constanti winery – this is where your host works, so she will be more than happy to give you a tour of the place. Beautiful vineyards surround the loft and a wide range of wineries to sample some of the tastiest glasses of red.

Return home to sit at the dining table while the scent of a home-cooked Italian meal fills the room from the nearby kitchen. After you've eaten, pick a book off of the shelf, and snuggle up on the sofa while the moonlight shines through the windows. Pop the TV on for background noise or simply enjoy the peace and quiet that Montalcino brings.

An open space in a sixteenth-century building, in the hilly outskirts of Florence that, at time at times, has been both a stables and a nightclub, Thermae is one of the most spectacular places we’ve seen in Italy. Its restoration has been a labour of love for the host, Giovanni, and the way that he’s incorporated technology into the original structure is simply impressive. There’s too much to describe here, but know that everything's been taken care of. And if we did have to choose one thing that stood out, it might have to be the pool, hidden away in the vaults, and only accessible through a trapdoor.

This beautiful home can be found in Reggello, close to Florence and only 4 kilometres from some of the best shopping in Tuscany. It’s a modern home-from-home, cool and comfortable, with a delightful outside space. A private pool sits in a vibrant garden filled with flowers and aromatic plants, where there’s a barbecue for alfresco dining, and an air-conditioned gym. It may be less than a thirty-minute drive from the spectacular Renaissance city of Florence, but this home feels like another world. Located up in the hills, you'll discover a spectacular villa – complete with a clock tower – just outside the small village of Cellai, where time seems to stand still. 

Pad across terracotta-tiled floors, with wood beam ceilings above, and discover rooms filled with character and charm, where period features and modern touches sit effortlessly alongside one another. Nowhere is this better displayed than in the contemporary kitchen and adjoining dining room with its antique stove. Each of the four bedrooms blends rustic charm with supreme comfort, while the bathrooms are fitted out with beautiful tiles and gleaming marble for a touch of luxury.

Step outside and you'll discover a lush landscape of terraced gardens, an inviting pool and breathtaking views over the Tuscan terrain. Your hosts recommend making the trip to Forno La Chiocciola, where you can stock up on Florentine speciality flatbread, schiaccata, each morning. Afterwards, place yourself poolside and settle in for a day of sunbathing, interrupted only by refreshing dips in the water and trips to the kitchen to get some more of that delicious bread.

Set on an estate dotted with trees, shrubs, and other native foliage, this home ecompasses the entire first floor of an ancient villa in Orentano. Despite sharing things like the pool, tennis court, and soccer field with another home, there is enough room on the property for it to still feel private. That’s probably helped along by the fact that you have your own private garden and barbecue – not to mention the sheer size of the home itself. Move easily between rooms and use the easy go-between as an excuse to nip into the kitchen for another cup of coffee and a dozen more biscotti to take back to where you’re reading on the plush sofa. Take the spiral staircase up to the loft where you’ll find the rustic bedrooms and bathrooms for when you’re ready to turn in at night. When you think loft, you might conjure up images of a tight squeeze, but the addition of the skylights in almost every room here allows the light to make the space feel more open. 

With the host and his family living on the estate, you’ll sometimes find yourself around the table enjoying their homemade pasta alfresco with soft music playing in the background. There’s also a brick pizza oven here, so don’t be surprised if you eat more margarita than you’d care to – we know, that is not even remotely possible. 

When you’re not enjoying the home, you can make a trip to Pisa, Voltera, or Florence – each with their unique charm – or borrow the bicycles and simply explore the surroundings on two wheels instead of four. After a day of activity under the Tuscan sun, take a late-night swim in the heated pool, and when you’re ready to return inside, why not linger a little while longer to gaze up at the stars.

We love the open-plan living area, a free-flowing space primed for relaxation with ample seating, a delightfully-equipped country kitchen and a majestic stone fireplace. Down the hall, three sumptuous sleeping quarters promise restful slumbers and, through timber-framed windows, postcard-worthy views of your glorious surroundings.

Outside, the peaceful shared courtyard, furnished with dining furniture and a hot tub, beckons you to unwind in the sun. Enjoy an alfresco breakfast here before a day of adventure. Take a stroll through the town, enjoy a morning swim in the Merse River, or hike through the wooded Alto Merse Nature Reserve, just twenty minutes away on foot.

​​Restored by an Italian architect with a gentle touch, this villa has been updated and split into more modern apartments, but without ever compromising on the original charm. By honouring the villa's history – and thereby retaining its character – the home feels traditionally Tuscan with its terracotta tiles and wooden beams.
