Sitting within a medieval borgo (little village) whose heyday was the early 17th century, this villa complex embraces old-world Umbria. It’s pure peace and quiet out here between the endless olive groves (extra virgin olive oil is the region’s speciality) and rolling hills covered in a patchwork of fields. It’s five kilometres to Monte Castello di Vibio with its ancient theatre and fifteen kilometres to the pretty town of Todi for restaurants and supermarkets.

The yard, where wheat was once threshed by hand, is now home to a smattering of chairs and tables for tipples in the sunshine. The porticoed upper terrace is the perfect spot for breakfast, or big barbecue lunches, with views of the 22-hectare estate. But the crowning glory of the gardens has to be that Roman-style swimming pool with its panoramic view of the countryside.

Accommodation is split between three separate buildings set around the courtyard. Two annexes have their own kitchenettes, living rooms and dining area so the group can spread out. The main villa is home to myriad antique-filled lounges and living rooms, including a striking main lounge set around the ancient hearth. Low, wood-beamed ceilings and old agricultural tools on the walls give that rustic farmhouse feel. A little games room invites guests to sit down for a game of chess or to peruse the library of books in here. But the real bonus inside is the dedicated celebration room which is a vast, barn-like space which can be set up for dining, dancing or even a spot of yoga.

Never a Frown

This refurbished sandstone home in rural Umbria retains a traditional charm with its original wood ceiling beams and oak wood floors – but has been updated for the ideal modern holiday. Making ingenious use of the area’s iconic terrain, the villa is wedged into a hill and spread across three floors, with views over the lush hills and lavender-filled garden. Spend a morning by the azure pool, and later have some lunch under the pergola, where climbing wisteria and jasmine makes for a fragrant atmosphere. In the evening, take a walk among the olive and cypress trees, or head indoors to play a game of billiards over some drinks. An exposed stone fireplace and rustic furnishings means the villa blends perfectly with the countryside – you’re bound to feel at one with it.  


Azzurro Sky

For those seeking a charming stay in the heart of Umbria, we may have what you're after. This first-floor apartment is as cute as they come, and – albeit on the smaller side – has everything you could need for a fuss-free stay. The optional living room sofa bed is also a bonus – especially when travelling in numbers. Spend your days enjoying the stunning shared gardens and pool, or hop in the car and you'll be in Bastardo or Giano dell’Umbria in less than ten minutes. With so much to see and do in the locale, this home is a haven for explorers and sunseekers alike. 

Estate Embrace

Tucked into the heart of the Umbrian countryside, this villa is just the ticket for those looking for a tranquil stay. While the traditional interiors may not be to everyone’s taste, the outdoor space will be a hit with all. Sun-drenched terraces, a swimming pool and a Jacuzzi – what’s not to love? It’s worth noting that neither the pool nor the Jacuzzi are heated – so, just the spot to cool off on hot summer days. Locally, you’ll find both Perugia and Todi a twenty-minute drive away, and well worth a visit for a taste of authentic Italy.

Made up of a main house and an annexe, with multiple kitchens and dining rooms, it's perfectly suited to families or groups travelling together. In the lush gardens, you'll find an outdoor pool, and on the terrace, there's a dining table and a pizza oven – perfect for authentic Italian dinners under the stars. From here, it's a short drive to local towns and villages like Todi, so you can explore Umbria and be home for a glass of wine before sundown.

If you can tear yourself away, it’s just ten minutes to Todi, full of mediaeval charm and authentic Italian eateries. 

Olive & Sunflower

This ground-floor apartment offers comfort and convenience in the heart of Umbria. It is set on a stunning estate with impressive countryside views. The shared grounds, which feature a swimming pool and areas for dining alfresco, are another highlight. Inside is charming and cosy with elegant interiors. There are accessible features such as a step-free shower, making it a great choice for those with reduced mobility. The single sofa bed in the living room also offers flexibility to those travelling with the little ones. With a host of heritage cities just a short drive away, and lots to see and do in the locale, this home ticks tons of boxes.

Noble Foothills

Hidden away in two hectares of olive trees and flowers, this Umbrian stonehouse feels like your own private paradise. You'll be tempted to spend most of your time out here, because there's a large swimming pool with sun loungers for relaxing, and a barbecue and wood oven for big group dinners. Inside, the large bedrooms come with French doors that open up onto the patio and gardens, so you can breeze in and out as you please. When you're ready to explore, you'll find sparkling lakes, local vineyards, and medieval country towns like Todi just a short drive away.

Charming Place

Built in the 12th century, this ancient tower rises out of the forest like a scene from a painting. It was once the home of an aristocratic family and we imagine they would be proud of the lavish reconstruction that’s taken place here. Old stone fireplaces sit alongside striking mid-century furniture and vibrant modern artworks are sandwiched between terracotta floors and wood-beamed ceilings. As you wind your way up the tower, the view over the forests and hills around you gets better and better, all from original arched windows. Antique beds adorn each plush bedroom and there’s something fairytale-esque about drifting off to sleep at the top of a tower.

Outside, there’s a long dining table amidst the flowers and greenery, perfect for a long, lazy Italian lunch. A sleek little swimming pool hangs off the side of the garden, and loungers here look out over the hills to a rival tower in the distance. If you're staying to celebrate something special, there's a little 18th century chapel in the grounds too. Should you tire of your defensive position amidst the trees, head into the charming hilltop city of Perugia for good food and historic sights.
