As soon as you approach this lovely home's building, you're greeted with a beautiful pond with a fountain and colourful fish – we felt an air of calm straight away. The garden has an even bigger pond – the shared swimming pool is perfect for cooling off in the Italian heat or simply relax with a book on the lounger.

Inside the apartment, there are characterful exposed beams and terracotta tiled floors. Another stand-out feature of this home is the main bathroom which has Swarovski crystals set in the furniture and on the washbasin – we do love a bit of bling.

Situated a few steps from Spiaggia D'oro and the centre of Desenzano del Garda, it has a fabulous location. If you have kids with you, there's a playground 50 metres away too.

Designed by a well-respected 20th-century architect, this two-storey home on the Sirmio peninsula plants you onto sprawling lands that stretch out to a beach on Lake Garda. With stunning balcony views accessible to all the bedrooms and spots for alfresco dining, the outdoor areas are a big draw here, but the inside is a treat too. We were especially fond of the atmospheric study and elegant living room, both ideal spots for nightcaps. And despite the seemingly secluded location, you're not far from eateries, cafes, and historical sites here – and you won't want to miss the chance to take a boat trip on the lake.

There’s a barbecue for grilled Italian feasts on the patio, though you’ll also find Solarolo’s local restaurants and bars within walking distance. Sharing its outdoor pool with just one other apartment, this modern home sits in large gardens, in a quiet spot overlooking the rolling hills – the blue of Lake Garda just visible across the trees. With lovely lawns, old olive trees and plenty of green all around, it's a comfortable and practical home-from-home. 

Inside, it's a ground floor apartment well suited to family life. Modern in design, its big windows and spacious rooms keep it bright and sociable, with all eyes on the view to the rear. There's a well kitted-out kitchen and a dining table inside, but we think you'll be spending much of your time eating on the covered terrace. 

After breakfast, head to the gated outdoor pool for a morning of swimming and playing on the trampoline, or hop in your car and you'll be by the lakeshore in a little over five minutes. 

From your home, it's a short walk into the village of Soiano del Lago, with its grocery shop and small restaurants, making this the ideal choice for a quiet family holiday away from the hustle and bustle of the busy resorts. Drive to the nearby beaches for fun at the lake, or spend a day at one of the nearby amusement parks – Gardaland is around half an hour's drive away.

Combining history and culture, the building has been beautifully restored and retains many of its original features. Think fine marble staircases, wrought iron railings and intricately carved window frames – stepping into this home will transport you back in time. The interiors are super homely with pops of sunshine yellow, which perfectly mirrors the exterior.
Open up the French doors and take a seat on the comfy sofa to enjoy your morning coffee and gaze at the spectacular views of the lake. The private balcony looks out over the piazza, and is the perfect place to breathe in some fresh air and watch the world go by. You'll be ideally situated for exploring both the town and the beach, giving you the best of both worlds.

Housed in an elegant building in the Piazza Duomo in Desenzano del Garda, this home has a fabulous setting. The apartment is located just 50 metres from Lake Garda and the many shops, bars and restaurants. It's just 150 metres from one of the lake's sandy beaches too.

Back at this apartment, relax on the balcony off the main bedroom with a glass of wine. Inside, we love the feature ornate fireplace in the open plan living space, but the real highlight here is the beautiful view of the city's cathedral from the main bedroom window (this room also has vibrant botanical wallpaper).

Later, if you don't fancy eating out, rustle up some risotto con la tinca (rice with fish and chard) in the modern kitchen and enjoy the fruits of your labour at your dining table. After a busy day, get ready for bed in the marble-clad bathroom with its large shower and then get some rest.

Enjoy a peaceful retreat at this renovated farmhouse apartment just fifteen minutes from the banks of Lake Garda. The characterful home enjoys its own private terrace, as well as shared access to a flower-filled communal garden and children's playground. With a range of water sports and scenic walks just a short drive away, there really is something for everyone – including your furry friends, if you choose to take them along.

Inside, the characterful home has been traditionally decorated with red and green accents (all we can see is the Italian flag!) letting the striking exposed stone ceiling do the talking. In the homely bedroom, double doors lead directly onto the terrace, so you can wake up and immediately step out into the morning sun.

The lakefront town of Gargnano is within easy reach. Here, you'll find picturesque streets lined with colourful centuries-old buildings. Choose a down-to-earth Italian restaurant to sample the local cuisine, and enjoy a creamy gelato as you stroll along the water. Don't leave without picking up a bottle of the region's wine to sip in your garden as the sun dips into the inky lake.

Nestled in Cecina village, where rolling green hills form an enviable backdrop, this villa lies only minutes from the famous Lake Garda. But it isn't all about location, even though we love how quickly you can walk to a restaurant from here. With most of the rooms spilling out onto large terraces, where you can appreciate the landscape from poolside or under vine-covered pergolas whilst having an alfresco breakfast, it feels like a celebration of the beautiful untamed surroundings. Throw in the typical architecture, rustic decor – though it might not be to everyone's taste – and ample space and we had to add it to our collection.

The rich history of the building can be glimpsed in the touches of the original construction that were kept after the 2021 renovation – the wrought iron decor on the staircase railings, and the ornate windows. The traditional blends seamlessly with the modern, with the fully-equipped kitchen allowing you to whip up some fantastic home-cooked meals. That is, when you're not out exploring the dining opportunities that Desenzano del Garda has to offer.

Set within the boundary wall of the Botanical Gardens, this villa has peace and tranquillity at its core. With all of the bedrooms on the upper floor, it’s not the best choice for those who struggle with stairs, but it’s a comfortable home with all the mod-cons you could wish for. The Mediterranean gardens and private pool offer a little slice of solitude to soak up the sun, and with the ferry dock just a short walk away, you can be out on the lake exploring the local area in no time.

We could easily spend hours in the rooftop pool, lazily floating in the sunshine with a backdrop of exquisite scenery. 

After you’ve dried off in the sun, head into the historic centre of Padenghe and enjoy lunch in a trattoria. Wander the streets with a gelato, or call into cafes for coffee and watch the world go by – there’s no need to rush, you’re in Italy after all. The jewel in Padenghe’s crown is undoubtedly the castle; whether you’re a history buff or you’re just in it for the views of Garda, it’s well worth strolling five minutes up the hill to explore. Further afield, beautiful Sirmione is less than ten miles away. 

However you spend your stay, make sure you spend at least one evening on the terrace with a glass of something local, watching the sun set slowly over the lake. If you’re anything like us, you’d kick yourself for missing it.

When it comes to exploring, we’d recommend taking the bikes out for a cycle by the water.

You always enjoy private access to the stony beach out front here, a space ideal for soaking up some sun on a sun lounger.
