If you want to get out and explore, beeline for Alfarim and Meco beaches with the home’s stand-up paddle board and kayak in tow (just seven minutes in the car), or discover the natural seawater lagoons of Lagoa de Albufeira (a ten-minute drive) or spend the day in the seaside town of Sesimbra to admire the pristine white sands be spoilt with a choice of seafood restaurants (a twenty-five-minute car ride).

For daytime adventures, make the short drive to the nearest beach (just 5km away), rent bikes or follow nearby hiking trails. The Way of Peace

If we were to tell you of a hideaway that sits in the middle of twelve hectares of lush pine forest in rural Comporta, you might imagine a certain type of home and we're willing to wager that it doesn't look anything like this wonderfully modern residence.

Not only does the boxy white exterior look visually striking from the outside, but this sense of awe will continue as you step through the glass doors. Our favourite space is the double-height living, which is flooded with natural light from the copious number of windows that line the walls. However, the modern brown kitchen and equally glossy bathrooms are sure to take your breath away, as well. The design throughout feels cohesive, united by a preference for clean lines, sleek surfaces and chic minimalism.

Given the agreeable climate that this corner of the Iberian peninsula enjoys, you'll likely want to spend as many hours outdoors as possible and that's easy to do here. The long infinity swimming pool is both wonderfully refreshing when the midday sun is at its highest and made all the more relaxing by the heady scent of fragrant herbs and vegetation that grow around the sides. There are plenty of terraces and balconies on which to take a seat and do nothing more strenuous than soak up the rays, but you can also find a tennis court if you fancy a match or two.

Although there's a strong sense of tranquillity from the isolated position, you don't have to venture far to find the Portuguese coastline. Carvalhal and Pego beaches can be reached in ten minutes or so in the car, and there are a few restaurants and bars to be found close to these seaside spots.


Finesse in the Forest

Out here, the hours whittle away while you’re relaxing on the sun loungers, taking a dip in the heated pool, catching up on your book on the bean bags, and taking in the scenery. When lunchtime rolls around, grill up a feast of local produce on the barbecue and gather around the pergola-covered bench-style dining table. 

Inside lends itself to any occasion, with the huge windows flooding the home with natural light and the scent of crisp pine hanging in the air. But in the evenings, the fireplace and warm-toned lighting make for wonderful cosy nights spent watching films. And with stylish yet comfortable bedrooms, all of which lead out to the garden, and super sleek bathrooms, the villa continues to impress.

When you want to get out and explore this beautiful slice of Portugal, you’re just 5km from the closest beach and its surfing spots, beachfront restaurants, and sugary white sand. The town is even closer, just 2km away, where you’ll find an array of restaurants and bars. But if you want to make the most of your villa but cooking is off the cards, your host can arrange for a private chef to take care of dinner for you. 

Comporta Dreaming

Among the picture-perfect rice fields and close to the River Sado, you’ll find this truly unique home. Comprising three fisherman-style huts, don’t let the rustic exterior deceive you – a luxurious living experience awaits inside. 

Showcasing plenty of country charm and cosy touches, this home is perfect for family life. Boasting multiple lounge areas, outdoor seating and even a treehouse, there's plenty of space to spread out and relax.

When you do fancy a day out, explore the local nature spots of Comporta, or jump in the car and head to Praia da Comporta to enjoy the turquoise waters and white sand – it's just over 4km away. When you return, rustle up a fresh seafood dinner on the barbecue, and eat together alfresco under the pergola with a bottle of Portuguese wine. Don’t feel like cooking? An outdoor dining area provides the perfect spot for al fresco meals, and there is ample parking space for up to three cars.

For those looking to explore the surroundings, several beaches such as Lagoa de Albufeira, Praia do Meco, and Portinho da Arrábida are within a short distance from the villa. Nearby amenities include a restaurant just 1.5 kilometers away, a pharmacy within 3.3 kilometers, and a supermarket within 4.8 kilometers. Should you wish to venture into Lisbon, the vibrant city is a mere 30 kilometers away, and Lisbon Airport can be reached within a 35-kilometer drive.

And when it's time to get your ensemble together, that covered veranda (with heaps of room for you and some guests) has sundowners written all over it.

When the sea finally lures you in, Comporta's shores, backed by wild grass-tufted sand dunes (just over one kilometre away), deliver all the cool, beach-shack vibes you're chasing. Or, for a complete change of pace, hop in the car for a day out in Lisbon – it's closer than you think.

Wild West Coast

On the wild shores of Portugal’s Atlantic coast, the region of Comporta boasts golden sand dunes, abundant pine forests and miles of spectacular scenery. It’s also renowned for its signature small thatched cabanas – crafted with locally sourced wood and grasses from the riverbanks. And this home (just a short walk from the beach) perfectly embodies this rich tradition of craftsmanship and heritage. 

Consisting of multiple buildings nestled amongst the trees, the owners have designed this space to honour the unique spirit of its surroundings, whilst adding a range of luxurious features. Just minutes in the car from the charming village of Melides, this stunning retreat is all about reconnecting with nature and embracing tranquillity. Set on over 25 acres, there's plenty of outdoor space to enjoy – from the swimming pool to a cosy sunbathing nook leading off one of the bedrooms. You'll definitely want to hire a car to get around. But with the white sands of Aberta Nova beach just ten minutes away, and everything from horseback riding and golf to wellness events available locally, it's well worth it.

In Nature's Embrace

This stunning home is the perfect escape. It’s tucked away in Santiago do Cacém in a peaceful spot – it was originally home to the friars of the Order of Santiago. You can look forward to dark wooden furniture, traditional fabrics, and rare wallpaper – the elegant dining room showcases hunting scenes and is a marvellous spot for a private chef-prepared feast. The lower garden is a tree-filled haven, while the upper garden has a heated pool, fruit trees, and a vegetable garden. You can fully unwind in this beautiful home.
