Not only is every inch beautifully decorated, but we adore the focus on sustainability – think solar panels, recycled materials and wastewater systems. The furniture (including the wardrobes) is constructed with repurposed wood, the plates and dishes made by local Portuguese craftsmen and the gorgeous white marble countertop is from Alentejo, so there's an emphasis on local products, too.

Besides its eco-credentials, we love how sleek this home is. Several elegant living spaces seamlessly flow into sophisticated terraces with plenty of comfortable seating and breathtaking views. Jump into the immaculate pool for a refreshing swim, then hang out on the sun loungers and revel in the fact that you don't need to do anything but relax. Come dinnertime, rustle up a meal in the bright kitchen and dine alfresco, watching the sunset over the water as you share a bottle of Portuguese wine. Sounds like heaven, right?

If you want to explore the area, nearby Carvoeiro has plenty of charming restaurants, bars and picturesque beaches. Praia da Marinha is a ten-minute drive, Praia da Benagi is reachable in thirteen, while the clifftop boardwalk and seaside eateries in town are just fifteen minutes away.

The private pool is the main attraction – just perfect for cooling down amidst the Portuguese heat. For those who could stretch out in the sun all day, the loungers allow you to do so – all you’ll need is a cool beverage in hand. As lunchtime rolls around, light the barbecue and indulge in a tasty snack on the wrap-around terrace, complete with countryside and sea views.

Inside, the home is full of traditional charm. In colder months, light the fire in the dining room for a cosy evening meal, tucking into a delicious home-cooked dinner as the fire casts a glow around the room. When you’re keen to explore, we’d recommend a trip to nearby Praia da Marinha beach – with glorious sunsets, it’s the most serene place to end the day.

Situated on the coast of Algarve, this modern home’s crowning jewel might be the lush green garden, outdoor seating, and the crystal-clear swimming pool, but indoors you’ll find plenty of diamonds, too. The vaulted ceilings of the living room, for one, is a feature that not only makes it feel more spacious, but, along with the natural light, it goes a long way in creating a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Take advantage of that by getting into your favourite position and passing the time with a good book and an aromatic tea. 

Also wedged between terracotta tiles and exposed rafters, you’ll find a generous bedroom that’s practically designed for afternoon naps. That’s the general feeling this home instils – to forget about time and simply do what moves you in the moment. If that happens to be a casual afternoon swim in the pool, then so be it. Situated close to Carvoeiro, you’re close enough to all the action, but far enough away that you can soak up the peace and tranquillity that this home offers in bucket loads. 

It’s not just about the location with this home, either. Step inside, and you’re met with pure elegance. Your living area offers a sofa big enough for everyone to sink into and share stories about their day. The open-plan kitchen and dining area is chic and classy, allowing whoever is on cooking duties for the evening to still be a part of the conversation with those gathered around the dining table. Of course, you may not want to cook – if not, there’s a delightful Italian restaurant a mere 100 metres away. 

Wander out onto your terrace, and your eyes will be drawn to the sea vistas. Take a refreshing dip in your private pool and gaze out over the ocean as you feel the breeze coming off the coast and brushing over your skin, leaving the salt water scent hanging in the air. After a while, settle down on a sun lounger with your holiday read and get lost in another world as the Portuguese sun warms your skin. The pool and gardens are the main attractions here, though the villa is attractive in its own right, and has enough room for a large group. There are two twin bedrooms so it’s better suited to families rather than couples – the rural location also makes this a more family-friendly option than a bustling city.

Perhaps you’d prefer to stretch out on a sun lounger, armed with a cocktail and a good book, as you listen to the delighted chatter of your children playing on the swing nearby. If an afternoon siesta is calling your name, climb onto your hammock for a little doze as the breeze drifts gently by. 

If you can tear yourself away from the relaxing vibe of this home, there’s so much to enjoy in the local area. Head north, and you’ll find the historic town of Silves. If the beach is what you seek, drive south and you can enjoy the white, sandy beaches of Armaçao de Pera. Just the spot to prop up one of the beach bars or enjoy a spot of lunch.
