The breezy terrace overlooks the backyard and gives you the chance to enjoy the fresh air and sunsets. Inside, the living area is perfect for socialising, with an open-plan design and lots of room to spread out. The bedrooms are a bit snug, but two have en-suite bathrooms, ensuring everyone will have their own space. You're also a short walk from the train station, which can whisk you away to central Lisbon in about thirty minutes.

Named after local beaches, Villa Guincho and Villa Cresmina have two bedrooms, with the former benefitting from a second bathroom. Villa Abano is the smallest with one bedroom. All villas boast beautiful sun-soaked terraces with space for alfresco dining and barbecues. Indoors, the design employs sandy neutrals, warm pops of colour and organic materials such as wicker and bamboo to create tranquil sanctuaries with a distinctly coastal feel. From surfing and beach lounging to hiking and cycling through verdant Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, there's something to satisfy everyone's wanderlust. Thrilling Guincho Beach is just a ten-minute walk away, while the calmer sands of Costa da Estoril are also close by. A meander through the Cascais' historical town centre is definitely a must, and if the mood takes you, Lisbon is just half an hour away. If you fancy swapping the coast for the city, Lisbon is 30 kilometres away. Our favourite feature of the home was the private terrace with views across the rooftops and the bay beyond. If you’ll be staying as a group of six, two guests will sleep on the sofa bed in the top floor sitting room.

The six bedrooms are laid out across the first floor, with one in the converted attic. They have been designed with every comfort in mind, and five come with an en suite – we love the Wes Anderson worthy pink and mustard bathrooms. The main bedroom is the jewel in the crown of this home. With its wraparound glass windows, you’ll wake up every morning to panoramic views of the ocean. Step out onto the balcony first thing and you will feel all is right with the world.

On summer days, while away the hours reading a book in the manicured garden, cooling off with dips in the outdoor pool before an alfresco lunch on the terrace. For the fitness minded, a beautiful cycle path stretches from the superb Guincho Beach 9 kilometres away and passes directly in front of the villa, to Cascais, 1 kilometre away. Head into Cascais to sample delicious Portuguese fare at one of the excellent restaurants, or drink beer with the locals at a bar. With its unbeatable location and palatial interiors, this villa has all the elements of a truly unforgettable holiday.

Overlooking your crystal blue pool is a delightful undercover seating area, so if you aren’t dining alfresco, you can pop your feet up on the comfortable white chaise with a glass of wine in hand. Venture inside and it’s just as charming – picture neutral colours, natural materials and wonderful open-plan spaces ideal for entertaining. We love the bedrooms, in particular – each has its own colour theme providing a calming effect to complement the tasteful modern artwork. 

On your way to the beach, just 2km away, crawl into the local restaurant for a spot of lunch. Comporta's coastlines are picturesque, perfect for lounging in the sand and catching the rays. After a day of soaking up the Portuguese sunshine, be sure to gather your loved ones around the built-in barbecue back at home for an evening watching the sunset and indulging in divine local ingredients. A beautiful contemporary villa with a relaxing zen feeling will be the backdrop to a wonderful holiday to remember.

It's pretty clear what was at the top of the list for the architect that designed this intriguing home in Comporta – natural light and lots of it. Enormous walls of glass line the sides of the home and the dazzlingly white interior design only accentuates this plentiful natural asset. These huge windows also have the added benefit of looking out to peaceful views of local rice fields, too.

As you can probably begin to tell, it's a rather relaxing address. There are lots of spots in the tropical garden in which to appreciate the local tranquillity, whether on the back of a lounger or while dining alfresco on the table. Whenever the temperature takes a dip, you can head back inside and cosy up next to the contemporary fireplace in the lounge.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the locale, there are vast swathes of golden beaches covering the Portuguese coastline that start from as close as 1.5km away, while the nearest town is only 2km away for when you're in need of restaurants and shops.

If we were to tell you of a hideaway that sits in the middle of twelve hectares of lush pine forest in rural Comporta, you might imagine a certain type of home and we're willing to wager that it doesn't look anything like this wonderfully modern residence.

Not only does the boxy white exterior look visually striking from the outside, but this sense of awe will continue as you step through the glass doors. Our favourite space is the double-height living, which is flooded with natural light from the copious number of windows that line the walls. However, the modern brown kitchen and equally glossy bathrooms are sure to take your breath away, as well. The design throughout feels cohesive, united by a preference for clean lines, sleek surfaces and chic minimalism.

Given the agreeable climate that this corner of the Iberian peninsula enjoys, you'll likely want to spend as many hours outdoors as possible and that's easy to do here. The long infinity swimming pool is both wonderfully refreshing when the midday sun is at its highest and made all the more relaxing by the heady scent of fragrant herbs and vegetation that grow around the sides. There are plenty of terraces and balconies on which to take a seat and do nothing more strenuous than soak up the rays, but you can also find a tennis court if you fancy a match or two.

Although there's a strong sense of tranquillity from the isolated position, you don't have to venture far to find the Portuguese coastline. Carvalhal and Pego beaches can be reached in ten minutes or so in the car, and there are a few restaurants and bars to be found close to these seaside spots.

This wonderful home is the kind you’ll fondly daydream about when you’re back at home, listening to drizzle patter against the windows. Everything you might want or need during your stay has been thought of in this luxurious and welcoming home, so you can focus on enjoying every last second of your break. 

The villa is bright and stylish, with decor and finishes that would be at home in an interior design magazine. It’s beautiful, with splashes of colour adding warmth and fun. You’ll wake up to feel the sunshine on your pillow, tempting you to head through the floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors outside to the terrace. Sip an espresso as you breathe in the warm, sweet-scented air. 

The outside space has been as thoughtfully considered as the house. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re a sun-worshipper or prefer to lounge in the shade. Table tennis will keep the big kids entertained, while you cool off in the refreshing solar-heated pool. There’s a gym inside, too, so you can easily get a workout in – though we might be more tempted by a yoga session on the terrace. 

When you want to explore further afield, you might stroll to Galé beach, or perhaps hop in the car to visit Troia. History buffs will enjoy seeing the Roman ruins at Cetobriga, while golfers might choose to stay closer to home – Troia Golf is a five-minute drive from the villa. This is truly a holiday home with something for everyone – you’ll never want to leave.
