This home offers an abundance of privacy as well as space for entertainment altogether - the upper living room is the perfect siesta nook whilst the downstairs lounge is designed for games around the coffee table - every guest is considered here.
 
If you want to get out and explore, beeline for Alfarim and Meco beaches with the home’s stand-up paddle board and kayak in tow (just seven minutes in the car), or discover the natural seawater lagoons of Lagoa de Albufeira (a ten-minute drive) or spend the day in the seaside town of Sesimbra to admire the pristine white sands be spoilt with a choice of seafood restaurants (a twenty-five-minute car ride).

Pine & Sands

In the coastal resort town of Cascais, this bright and breezy apartment puts you within easy walking distance of the buzzing marina and soft-sanded beaches. It’s 200 meters (a two-minute walk) to the beach and Praça de Camões nightlife hub, and you’ll find fresh seafood restaurants and trendy bars overlooking the boats in the marina too. The apartment is in the charming old centre of town and is the ideal bolthole. Bright white walls lighten each room and boho touches – elephant throws, modern artworks, trinkets and Moroccan-style rugs –add a little charm. The real highlight is the shaded terrace, overlooking the orange roofs of Old Cascais. Out here you’ll find a dining set for four and a trellis adorned with flowering pot plants. It's a perfect spot for that welcome local bottle of wine that awaits your arrival.

This flows seamlessly into its perfect antithesis, the light, bright, modern living room, where you can kick back on the L-shaped sofa and admire the spectacular views of the sea through the sliding glass doors. 

The wraparound balcony boasts grand, pointed archways, stone colonnades and comfy outdoor seating, and is a lavish place to enjoy a glass of champagne or two when the sun sets. The six bedrooms are laid out across the first floor, with one in the converted attic. They have been designed with every comfort in mind, and five come with an en suite – we love the Wes Anderson worthy pink and mustard bathrooms. The main bedroom is the jewel in the crown of this home. With its wraparound glass windows, you’ll wake up every morning to panoramic views of the ocean. Step out onto the balcony first thing and you will feel all is right with the world.

On summer days, while away the hours reading a book in the manicured garden, cooling off with dips in the outdoor pool before an alfresco lunch on the terrace. For the fitness minded, a beautiful cycle path stretches from the superb Guincho Beach 9 kilometres away and passes directly in front of the villa, to Cascais, 1 kilometre away. Head into Cascais to sample delicious Portuguese fare at one of the excellent restaurants, or drink beer with the locals at a bar. With its unbeatable location and palatial interiors, this villa has all the elements of a truly unforgettable holiday.

Casa Mar

Nestled in gardens of lush pine and cork trees, this contemporary villa is where you can shed thoughts of the daily grind and embrace a slower pace of life. You'll have everything you need to while away the days – you won’t even have to leave. But if you start to get itchy feet, you’re close to the paradisiacal village of Comporta and its pristine beaches, surfing spots, and beachfront restaurants. Just hop on the bikes and explore.

Modern and striking, the gorgeous interior just about competes with the beauty of the outdoors. All rooms open up to the garden to let the fresh air in. Even the games room is bright and cosy – a welcoming space for good-spirited games of table football, or letting the kids entertain themselves with the games console. 

That said, we imagine you’ll spend most of your time making the most of the 8.5 hectares that this villa sits on. Start off your mornings with coffee in the early sunshine, then dabble in a spot of yoga in the garden. Succumb to lazy days of reading beside the overflowing pool, occasionally taking a dip in its crystalline waters to cool off. Enjoy lunchtimes beneath the shaded patio dining area, tucking into a meal from the barbecue.

As dinnertime rolls around, gather around the outdoor dining table and enjoy jugs of sangria, while the floodlights and starry sky light up the gardens. Don't feel like cooking? There's a fabulous restaurant just 200 metres away – or your host can arrange for a private chef to come and wow you with local dishes.

Pass to Paradise

If we were to tell you of a hideaway that sits in the middle of twelve hectares of lush pine forest in rural Comporta, you might imagine a certain type of home and we're willing to wager that it doesn't look anything like this wonderfully modern residence.

Not only does the boxy white exterior look visually striking from the outside, but this sense of awe will continue as you step through the glass doors. Our favourite space is the double-height living, which is flooded with natural light from the copious number of windows that line the walls. However, the modern brown kitchen and equally glossy bathrooms are sure to take your breath away, as well. The design throughout feels cohesive, united by a preference for clean lines, sleek surfaces and chic minimalism.

Given the agreeable climate that this corner of the Iberian peninsula enjoys, you'll likely want to spend as many hours outdoors as possible and that's easy to do here. The long infinity swimming pool is both wonderfully refreshing when the midday sun is at its highest and made all the more relaxing by the heady scent of fragrant herbs and vegetation that grow around the sides. There are plenty of terraces and balconies on which to take a seat and do nothing more strenuous than soak up the rays, but you can also find a tennis court if you fancy a match or two.

Although there's a strong sense of tranquillity from the isolated position, you don't have to venture far to find the Portuguese coastline. Carvalhal and Pego beaches can be reached in ten minutes or so in the car, and there are a few restaurants and bars to be found close to these seaside spots.

When you do fancy a day out, explore the local nature spots of Comporta, or jump in the car and head to Praia da Comporta to enjoy the turquoise waters and white sand – it's just over 4km away. When you return, rustle up a fresh seafood dinner on the barbecue, and eat together alfresco under the pergola with a bottle of Portuguese wine. Don’t feel like cooking? Hire a private chef for the evening and relax while tasting some of the local delicacies of northwest Portugal.

Post-dinner, retire to the fire pit to toast marshmallows and watch the sunset over the fields, or indulge in an evening swim in the private swimming pool. 

River & Rice Fields

The cutting angles of this modern villa are softened on all sides by lush botanical foliage filling the grounds. A covered terrace set with a cluster of dining tables is illuminated by huge Moroccan lamps at twilight and boasts a built-in barbecue of steel and concrete. Sofas and loungers are strewn across the immaculate lawn, and you can choose to soak up the sun, or lounge in the shade of the pool terrace after a dip in the cooling turquoise water. 

Wake to the sound of birds and whip up breakfast in the huge kitchen and enjoy it on the garden terrace, or by the fireplace in the grand lounge. Should you need to get some work done, there’s a library-like study with two computers and the creatives of the group can spend evenings strumming a guitar or tinkering on the piano. 

If you want to get out and explore the surrounding countryside or head into the centre of Cascais in fifteen minutes, a handful of bikes in the carport are at your disposal, and there’s plenty of room for parking in shade too.

It's situated in the coastal resort of Cascais, just a four-minute walk from the waterfront, where you can lounge on the sand and soak up the sun. You'll love cooking fresh seafood in the kitchen and serving your culinary creations outside on the private terrace.
