Each bedroom is beautifully bright yet cosy, with comforting throws and arts and crafts made by local artisans. The charming living and kitchen space is just as lovely, with a laid-back beachy style and nods to the region as portrayed through handmade pieces and artwork. 

The home is beautiful, and it’s from the outside that you can really appreciate it. By taking a step back, the full magnitude of it comes into vision. Standing on a platform, encircled by towering pine trees, and featuring a charming wrap-around porch, the villa really is the picture of hippy-chic. Spend mornings exploring the grounds, listening to the chirps of the early birds, before spending blissful hours relaxing on a sun lounger. Time stands still here, while you catch up on your book and occasionally take dips in the pool, before challenging your group to an afternoon game of volleyball. 

Despite the rural surroundings, you’re just a few minutes drive from the picturesque town of Carvalhal. The sugary white sand beaches are just an eight-minute drive away too, where you can either watch the surfers or get on the waves yourself. There’s something special and nostalgic about exploring an area by cycling around – your host can provide you with a bike to discover the idyllic natural beauty of rice terraces, pristine beaches, and the forests of Comporta. 

Fairies of the Forest

Peace, privacy and beautiful views – this home welcomes you to enjoy it all from the heart of Comporta. You can also savour blissful swims in the pool, lazy afternoon siestas in the shade and long barbecue meals served on the terrace. Daily housekeeping is included in your stay and your host can help organise extras like private chefs and yoga sessions for an additional fee. You might never want to leave this sanctuary, but you can walk to the nearest restaurants and it’s just 1 kilometre to the nearest beach.

Surrounded by pinewood forests and a stone's throw from Lagoa de Albufeira’s unique lagoon coast, this modern villa offers rejuvenation and adventure for every member of your group or family. Surrounded by a variety of local shrubs and gardens of native wildflowers, this serene spot has everything you need for a blissful coastal retreat.

The outside space is beautiful. A quenching blue pool is the main focal point, with cosy loungers ready for days soaking in the sun. The upper terrace is the perfect place for balmy afternoons spent with pre-dinner cocktails. 

When you need a repose from the sun, retreat to the inside where you’ll find a light-filled contemporary space. The minimal design aesthetic features crisp white walls, full-height ceilings and a multitude of glass accents that beckons the light in and creates laid-back energy that synchronises with the Portuguese coastal spirit. This home offers an abundance of privacy as well as space for entertainment altogether - the upper living room is the perfect siesta nook whilst the downstairs lounge is designed for games around the coffee table - every guest is considered here.
 
If you want to get out and explore, beeline for Alfarim and Meco beaches with the home’s stand-up paddle board and kayak in tow (just seven minutes in the car), or discover the natural seawater lagoons of Lagoa de Albufeira (a ten-minute drive) or spend the day in the seaside town of Sesimbra to admire the pristine white sands be spoilt with a choice of seafood restaurants (a twenty-five-minute car ride).

Pine & Sands

This fuss-free apartment is perfect for big gatherings and multigenerational escapes to the Lisbon coastline. A spacious dining area calls for catch-ups over supper, while the cosy balcony is ideal for quiet moments in the morning – especially when accompanied with a strong espresso and flaky pastry. There are two sitting rooms to loll about in between excursions, and comfy bedrooms that demand midday catnaps. After settling in, throw on your swimsuit and make a beeline for the communal pool – or loungers, if sun worshipping is more your thing. The surrounding gardens are tranquil and inviting; spot wildlife as you stroll beside the stream. Take the fifteen-minute walk into Cascais for restaurants, cafes and of course, the beach. Praia da Ribeira hums during the daytime, but visit in the late afternoon for lighter crowds, warmer waters and a knockout sunset. 

What A Dream

This pretty apartment is ideal for a small group of friends or family craving good times and great weather. It's situated in the coastal resort of Cascais, just a four-minute walk from the waterfront, where you can lounge on the sand and soak up the sun. You'll also find plenty of pretty cobbled streets to explore and charming cafés where you can do as the locals do and watch the world go by over a glass of Portuguese wine. The apartment itself is a cheerful space, with colourful artworks and comfortable furnishings that will make you feel right at home. You'll love cooking fresh seafood in the kitchen and serving your culinary creations outside on the private terrace. Plus, your host can even provide parasols, beach towels, childrens' amenities and extra cleaning services if you let them know in advance – so all you have to think about is which beach you want to visit first. 

Sunshine in a Bottle

Nestled in gardens of lush pine and cork trees, this contemporary villa is where you can shed thoughts of the daily grind and embrace a slower pace of life. You'll have everything you need to while away the days – you won’t even have to leave. But if you start to get itchy feet, you’re close to the paradisiacal village of Comporta and its pristine beaches, surfing spots, and beachfront restaurants. Just hop on the bikes and explore.

Modern and striking, the gorgeous interior just about competes with the beauty of the outdoors. All rooms open up to the garden to let the fresh air in. Even the games room is bright and cosy – a welcoming space for good-spirited games of table football, or letting the kids entertain themselves with the games console. 

That said, we imagine you’ll spend most of your time making the most of the 8.5 hectares that this villa sits on. Start off your mornings with coffee in the early sunshine, then dabble in a spot of yoga in the garden. Succumb to lazy days of reading beside the overflowing pool, occasionally taking a dip in its crystalline waters to cool off. Enjoy lunchtimes beneath the shaded patio dining area, tucking into a meal from the barbecue.

As dinnertime rolls around, gather around the outdoor dining table and enjoy jugs of sangria, while the floodlights and starry sky light up the gardens. Don't feel like cooking? There's a fabulous restaurant just 200 metres away – or your host can arrange for a private chef to come and wow you with local dishes.

Pass to Paradise

If we were to tell you of a hideaway that sits in the middle of twelve hectares of lush pine forest in rural Comporta, you might imagine a certain type of home and we're willing to wager that it doesn't look anything like this wonderfully modern residence.

Not only does the boxy white exterior look visually striking from the outside, but this sense of awe will continue as you step through the glass doors. Our favourite space is the double-height living, which is flooded with natural light from the copious number of windows that line the walls. However, the modern brown kitchen and equally glossy bathrooms are sure to take your breath away, as well. The design throughout feels cohesive, united by a preference for clean lines, sleek surfaces and chic minimalism.

Given the agreeable climate that this corner of the Iberian peninsula enjoys, you'll likely want to spend as many hours outdoors as possible and that's easy to do here. The long infinity swimming pool is both wonderfully refreshing when the midday sun is at its highest and made all the more relaxing by the heady scent of fragrant herbs and vegetation that grow around the sides. There are plenty of terraces and balconies on which to take a seat and do nothing more strenuous than soak up the rays, but you can also find a tennis court if you fancy a match or two.

Although there's a strong sense of tranquillity from the isolated position, you don't have to venture far to find the Portuguese coastline. Carvalhal and Pego beaches can be reached in ten minutes or so in the car, and there are a few restaurants and bars to be found close to these seaside spots.


Finesse in the Forest

Just a short stroll from the beach, this contemporary home opens its doors to a laidback coastal getaway. Outside, there’s a heated pool for refreshing swims and a terrace for alfresco dining and drinks. Inside, the rooms are just as inviting with a living area and a fire for cosy gatherings, a mezzanine level with a desk for remote workers and three thoughtfully designed bedrooms (each with an en-suite bathroom). Daily housekeeping is included in your stay and your host is on hand to help organise special extras like bike rentals and private chefs. You’ll also find the nearest restaurants and shops within easy driving distance

Return to Beauty 

Among the picture-perfect rice fields and close to the River Sado, you’ll find this truly unique home. Comprising three fisherman-style huts, don’t let the rustic exterior deceive you – a luxurious living experience awaits inside. 

Showcasing plenty of country charm and cosy touches, this home is perfect for family life. Boasting multiple lounge areas, outdoor seating and even a treehouse, there's plenty of space to spread out and relax.

When you do fancy a day out, explore the local nature spots of Comporta, or jump in the car and head to Praia da Comporta to enjoy the turquoise waters and white sand – it's just over 4km away. When you return, rustle up a fresh seafood dinner on the barbecue, and eat together alfresco under the pergola with a bottle of Portuguese wine. Don’t feel like cooking? Hire a private chef for the evening and relax while tasting some of the local delicacies of northwest Portugal.

Post-dinner, retire to the fire pit to toast marshmallows and watch the sunset over the fields, or indulge in an evening swim in the private swimming pool. 

River & Rice Fields

This extraordinary home on the Cascais Riviera blends sumptuous grandeur with bold, contemporary styling. Step into the octagonal, mahogany entrance hall and it’s immediately clear you are somewhere incredibly special. Each of the doors leads through to resplendent rooms. With its wood panelling, brick fireplace, and antique drinks trolley, the sultry drawing room is the perfect place to curl up on cosy evenings, sipping a cocktail and playing card games. This flows seamlessly into its perfect antithesis, the light, bright, modern living room, where you can kick back on the L-shaped sofa and admire the spectacular views of the sea through the sliding glass doors. 

The wraparound balcony boasts grand, pointed archways, stone colonnades and comfy outdoor seating, and is a lavish place to enjoy a glass of champagne or two when the sun sets. The six bedrooms are laid out across the first floor, with one in the converted attic. They have been designed with every comfort in mind, and five come with an en suite – we love the Wes Anderson worthy pink and mustard bathrooms. The main bedroom is the jewel in the crown of this home. With its wraparound glass windows, you’ll wake up every morning to panoramic views of the ocean. Step out onto the balcony first thing and you will feel all is right with the world.

On summer days, while away the hours reading a book in the manicured garden, cooling off with dips in the outdoor pool before an alfresco lunch on the terrace. For the fitness minded, a beautiful cycle path stretches from the superb Guincho Beach 9 kilometres away and passes directly in front of the villa, to Cascais, 1 kilometre away. Head into Cascais to sample delicious Portuguese fare at one of the excellent restaurants, or drink beer with the locals at a bar. With its unbeatable location and palatial interiors, this villa has all the elements of a truly unforgettable holiday.

Casa Mar

Sleek and sophisticated, this apartment is both dramatic and practical. You’ll find the home situated just 300 metres from the Praia da Ribeira de Cascais – it’s one of the most sheltered stretches of the Lisbon coastline with still waters, perfect for paddling, on long, hot afternoons. When hunger strikes, you won’t have to travel far. There are countless dining options within a five-minute walk from either the beach or your doorstep. Back at the abode, a contemporary living space with walls of glass and swathes of moody navy blue is inviting. Recline on the sofa with a drop of red and a platter of regional cheese, put together at the glossy kitchen island. And when it’s time to get your head down, quiet bedrooms guarantee a blissful night’s sleep.

In The Summertime

This stunning home is the perfect escape. It’s tucked away in Santiago do Cacém in a peaceful spot – it was originally home to the friars of the Order of Santiago. You can look forward to dark wooden furniture, traditional fabrics, and rare wallpaper – the elegant dining room showcases hunting scenes and is a marvellous spot for a private chef-prepared feast. The lower garden is a tree-filled haven, while the upper garden has a heated pool, fruit trees, and a vegetable garden. You can fully unwind in this beautiful home.
