Located within a tower block in the Braço de Prata district of Lisbon, this apartment is a prime example of elegant simplicity.

All throughout, the stark white walls are perfectly soothing and make for a blank canvas against which more characterful touches — like the large house plant and nautical artwork — really pop off. The kitchen is both large and well-equipped enough for cooking up a feast when you want a break from the city's restaurants.

The home's location is another major perk. The centre of Lisbon only takes half an hour to reach on the metro, while the up-and-coming area of Marvila, where abandoned warehouses have transformed into workspaces, artisan breweries and art galleries, is just a ten-minute walk away. The Tagus riverfront is a similar amount of time away, too.

Situated in one of the oldest parts of Lisbon, this charming apartment welcomes you in with open arms. Our favourite spot is the outdoor space, perfect for relaxing with a bottle of wine after a day of sightseeing – although it’s worth noting, there is a train track nearby so you may hear the occasional passing train punctuating the otherwise peaceful ambience. The homely interiors are equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay, while the free parking is an added bonus – although if you want to travel further afield, there’s plenty of public transport close by. 

A Lisbon Odyssey

Situated in the charming area of Graça, this luminous flat is a cosy retreat in one of Lisbon's most authentic neighbourhoods. The sun-kissed private terrace is our favourite spot. Begin the morning out there with a strong cup of coffee and pasteis de nata in the fresh air – your host can also arrange breakfast – and close the day with a glass of Vinho Verde come nightfall. You'll also have access to a communal garden, which is perfect for picnics in the late-afternoon sunshine. Inside, the sleek design is complemented by brilliant pops of red. Sprawl out on the sofa for a post-sightseeing catnap or gather around the table for a typical Portuguese dinner. 

Another thing we adore is the location. You're a bit further away from the hustle and bustle in the city centre, but with the famous 28 Tram a short walk away, you won't have to travel far to see the sights. Here, narrow streets are flanked by local restaurants, bakeries and open-air cafes, all serving up delectable regional dishes. Make sure to take in the panoramic views from the hilltop observation points – our favourite is Miradouro da Senhora do Monte, easily reached on foot. Or, explore in style and ask your host to arrange river cruises, helicopter tours and other experiences.

Wonderfully bright and designed with a keen eye for detail, this beautiful apartment in Lisbon’s scenic Mouraria neighbourhood is the ideal base for those wanting to be within easy walking distance of the city’s best sights. Inside, wood floors and a calm blue palette create a cool harmony in each part of the open-plan living space. From the bathroom’s pretty tiles to the mezzanine bedroom’s wall and ceiling, there’s a Mediterranean vibe here in the sky-coloured hues that feel as laid-back as it does chic. We love the French doors that open out onto a Juliet balcony – ideal for perching with your morning coffee while admiring your street’s azulejo-clad buildings. We’re big fans, too, of the nods to Portuguese traditions, like the cork around the bathroom’s sink and the kitchen’s blue and white tiles. Outside of your home, you're just a thirteen-minute walk from the Alfama and its São Jorge Castle, the Santa Justa Lift is a fifteen-minute walk and Praça do Comércio is a twenty-minute stroll from your home. With countless restaurants, shops and some of the city’s oldest fado bars in your neighbourhood too, you’re all set to soak up the city’s culture, food and history in style.

Tucked away on a residential street in Alfama, this home is a triple threat of charm, location, and views. This is a cosy haven with a simple design aesthetic that focuses on functionality and comfort – but we really liked the French doors and the hardwood steps that take you up to the attic bedroom. We were torn between the quaint communal terrace at the back and the spectacular river views from the living room. In the end, we decided to split our time between the two. Want to discover the real Lisbon? Slip on your most comfortable trainers and get lost in the charming labyrinthine streets of Alfama. If you want to save your legs, two of the city's most iconic tram routes pass within five minutes of your hillside home. Music lovers should head to the Museu do Fado, a three-minute walk, while history buffs will enjoy the impressive Castelo de São Jorge and Sé de Lisboa, both ten minutes away.

Like its lovely downstairs neighbour, Quarta Bicicleta is one of the nicest homes in this part of Alfama – and trust us, we've seen many. The location at the foot of the São Jorge Castle will make sightseeing effortless, and the terrace has some pretty sweet views of the river too. With a coherent modern design and high quality furniture, the only thing we can really fault this home for are the slanting ceilings (if you're tall), and the wall art might not be to everyone's taste.

This stylish apartment sits atop the highest hill in Lisbon. Thanks to the hardwood floors, stone wall, small balconies and large windows that fill the space with light, there's a cosy vibe here that will make you feel right at home. Oh, and did we mention the view? Just step out onto the balcony and you'll see the sparkling river in the distance. There's a fully-stocked kitchen that makes cooking a breeze, and your hosts are also more than happy to arrange exciting extras like breakfast delivery, home massages, surf lessons, a cruise on the Tagus and even helicopter rides. Though you're a bit far from Praça do Comércio and the city centre (it's a fifteen-minute bus ride), staying in Graça is worth it. You'll find colourful houses, local restaurants making traditional Portuguese fare and independent shops nestled amongst the cobblestone alleyways. Not to mention this area has some of the best viewpoints in Lisbon – we suggest Miradouro da Graça, which is a fifteen-minute walk away.

Thanks to its central location in Lisbon's bohemian Bairro Alto, this apartment is the perfect base to explore the Portuguese capital. Walk the winding streets of this neighbourhood to immerse yourself in the culture and architecture of Lisbon. When the hills get a bit too much, you can always hop onto one of the iconic trams as they weave their way through the city. You're four minutes' walk from the breathtaking city views of Miradouro de São Pedro, a six-minute walk from the opulent interior of the Church of Sao Roque, and six minutes from the mournful sounds of fado that accompany dinner at legendary Lisbon restaurant, Adega Machado. At the end of a day of exploring, retreat to your sleek and modern home, where traditional features harmoniously coexist with minimalist modern furniture – it's a stark contrast to the art-daubed cobbled streets below. Take inspiration from the exploration themed artwork as you sip an espresso or sit down at the contemporary dining table and put the finishing touches to your agenda. The dinky kitchenette is equipped with the basics, though with Lisbon’s rich culinary scene on your doorstep, we imagine you’ll be doing most of your dining out. Take the eighteen-minute stroll downhill to Praça do Comércio, stopping off at the Santa Justa Elevator and 12th century Lisbon Cathedral along the way. Inside the apartment itself, there's a tranquil ambiance thanks to the blue and cream colour scheme, reminding you that the water's edge isn't too far away. And there's even a little balcony, so you can breathe in some fresh air as you enjoy a nightcap at the end of a long day.

So, lace up your trainers and set out to explore the city's seven hills. You're only a few minutes from the impressive Praça do Comércio and the grid-like shopping streets of downtown Baixa. If you fancy exploring further afield, then you're close to the Sé stop of the iconic 28 tram.

After a quick workout in the communal fitness room, take a ten-minute stroll to the Largo da Graça where an endless supply of bakeries, eateries and wine bars, as well as one of the most spectacular viewpoints boasting boundless views of Lisbon await. If you're quite particular about location, then this apartment is the place for you. Situated inside a period building on Rua de Santa Justa, you'll be able to spot Arco da Rua Augusta from the living room, and walk to Elevador de Santa Justa in just one minute – it doesn't get much more convenient than that. Beautifully restored and filled with light, this home is as stylish as it is comfortable. We especially loved the kitchen's bright yellow tiles, where you can prepare a delicious meal using fresh ingredients to share at the sleek glass table. There's also a desk for catching up on work, and a plush sofa where you can put your feet up and enjoy some Portuguese wine – but with so much to do right on your doorstep, we think you'll hardly find the time.

Located just 15 minutes outside of the bustling city centre, this apartment is a perfect romantic retreat. The expansive terrace is ideal for starting your morning with a mindful yoga session, before taking a short stroll to the Praça Marquês de Pombal and the Parque Eduardo VII to enjoy the sights. Use the sightseeing buses to explore the city, or wander down the Avenida da Liberdade towards Baixa-Chiado, where you'll find a selection of cafes and bakeries for breakfast and lunch. Admire the neoclassical architecture and shop along the boutique-lined Rua Augusta where artists and artisans peddle their wares. Or hop on the Elevador de Santa Justa and make the vertical 47-metre journey to enjoy spectacular views of the city – it’s a bit of a cliché, but some things are clichéd for a reason.

Located a five-minute walk from São Jorge Castle and ten minutes to Sé Cathedral – both excellent starting points for a day of sightseeing – it's the perfect choice for a romantic weekend getaway or a convenient base for a solo traveller who wants to be within walking distance of the action.

Climb up the stairs and enter this bright and comfortable apartment, decorated with stylish simplicity in mind. Up here on the second floor, the open-plan kitchen/dining/living room is the undoubted heart of the home. 

We particularly enjoyed the treetop views that will accompany your culinary efforts in the kitchenette prior to sitting down to dine around the table. After dinner, feel free to unwind on the sofa or head to bed and watch TV in supreme comfort.

This beautiful apartment sits atop the highest of the seven hills of Lisbon, overlooking the sea of red-tiled roofs, in the historical neighbourhood of Graça. You're surrounded by an area steeped in history, starting right at home in this apartment, which was built back in 1920. 

Cloaked in rich tapestry and quirky decor, this home has an undeniable air of splendour. We particularly love the regal piano, calling you for late-night sing-along sessions. But when you step into the kitchen, you'll see how homely and inviting this apartment is, with its colourful tiles and huge dining table fit for family dinners of laughs, drinks, and old stories. It's one that's built to be cooked in, and in this beautiful, well-equipped kitchen, you'll be glad to do so. It also gives you a sneak peek of the jaw-dropping beauty that's outside, the pièce de résistance of this home – the balcony. 

You can step right out onto the balcony from the kitchen and living room, and there's even a smaller one that can be accessed from both bedrooms. From the main balcony, you're treated to one of the best views in all of Lisbon, it's even good enough to rival the nearby Senhora do Monte viewpoint. You'll love spending lazy mornings sipping on coffee, looking out at the view, and feeling the glow of the morning sun on your face, before heading out to explore Lisbon. 

You're steps away from the historic 28 tram, which famously takes passengers to all of Lisbon's most iconic and beautiful neighbourhoods. Alfama, the cathedral, Baixa, all the way to Campo Ourique. Get lost through the city's narrow, winding roads, stop off at quaint bars, and sample traditional Portuguese cuisine, before your feet can no longer carry you and it's time to head back to your apartment. You'll love retreating to this quiet neck of the woods after a busy day, and this sleek and cosy apartment is the definition of relaxing. With a modern kitchen, comfortable living room (the plush blue couch is perfect for lounging) and stylish bedrooms, you'll have everything you need to feel completely at home. This apartment might be modern, but the view is all old-world Lisbon. Inside, the living room feels like a 60s entertainer’s paradise, with velvet sofas, gallery-white walls and curious sculptures lining the room. Slide open the wall of glass and step out onto the terrace which has a view of modern Lisbon in one direction, and the orange roofs and townhouses of old in the other. The kitchen continues the charming retro theme, where lipstick red dining chairs offer space for the whole group. If you're here for work, you'll be glad to know this apartment has a dedicated workstation. After checking your emails, you can have a cold glass of wine on the private balcony (accessed from the bedroom and living space).

Getting lost in Mouraria's winding streets is a trip into the past, and part of the neighbourhood's authentic appeal. The Azure Terrace is situated in a house typical for the neighbourhood, which means that the outside (in stark contrast to the home itself) is a bit scruffy. The Azure Terrace is a home with all the features we want to see in a Lisbon Plum home – a private terrace, cute rustic design with lots of modern features and plenty of natural light. The abundance of fado shown in the vicinity is just a bonus.

This cheery home embodies everything we love about Lisbon’s Alfama neighbourhood, from its bright colours to its traditional details. Housed in a beautiful pink building topped with the city’s emblematic red roof tiles, there’s something uniquely modern about this stylish home while remaining true to its historic surroundings. You’ll love waking up starting your day off in the luxurious marble en-suite, then walking out onto your beautiful private terrace for a sunny breakfast amongst the tiled ornaments and leafy plants. After catching up on some reading on the sofa or the bedroom’s zebra-striped armchair, head out to explore your surroundings – you couldn’t be better placed to get the most out of the city’s sights. São Jorge Castle is a mere five-minute walk away, the harbour-facing Praça do Comércio a fifteen-minute stroll from your door, while Bairro Alto’s Fado bars and hip restaurants are twenty minutes away on foot. Perched on top of a renovated townhouse, View & Walkability boasts a fantastic location and a great view from the balcony. Rua de São Nicolau is within walking distance to all the central sights, restaurants, and cafes – but the central location does translate to a vibrant atmosphere that won't suit those who are looking for a tranquil stay. Our favourite hangout spot in this home is the balcony, which is great for a morning coffee, but even on rainy days, the living room gets great natural light. We also loved the eclectic design that mixes the old and new.

Located next door to the historic Rossio Square and providing a view of the Column of Pedro IV from the balcony, this apartment will put you right in the heart of the action in Lisbon. Here, you'll be within easy reach of the Carmo Convent, as well as a short stroll from the city’s historic harbour. The apartment is unique in its décor, with classy furniture and décor combined together with modern artwork and contemporary lighting to make it feel quaint yet trendy. There’s even a little leafy courtyard here, where you can sip your morning coffee while listening to the city wake up around you.

We tested this home in the winter, so the outside spaces don't look as appealing as they will in the summer, but the building itself hides the remains of a Roman settlement, so you'll be living and breathing history.

True to its historic surroundings, this home retains some original features of the traditional Pombaline building it’s housed in.
