Just to the north of Lisbon’s historic centre, this modern apartment puts you in a quiet, residential area away from the bustle of tourists. Yet, if you do fancy a spot of sightseeing, a handy metro stop five minutes from your front door can have you at the Santa Justa Lift, Carmo Convent and fado bars of Bairro Alto in under ten minutes. Stick around your neighbourhood to discover local eateries and the sprawling expanse of Parque Eduardo VII where there’s always something going on.

The apartment may be housed in a modern building, but the interior has all the rustic charm of a Southeast Asian beach house. Think basket lampshades from Brazil, rope-woven rugs and bamboo dining chairs. Glass sliding doors cast the boho-chic living room in sunlight and there’s a little balcony with a bistro set for two should you want a breath of fresh air with your morning coffee. Those that need to work remotely can set up at zen-inspired desks in both bedrooms, or perhaps spend your afternoons enjoying some downtime at the apartment block’s shared swimming pool.  

The Calligrapher's Pen

With a palatial façade, stunning minimalist interiors, and proximity to the poshest shopping street in Lisbon, Nova Inspirada packs quite a punch. But don't be fooled by the central location – this home is tucked away on a quiet street where you can relax on any of your many terraces, which includes the communal atrium. We tested this home in the winter, so the outside spaces don't look as appealing as they will in the summer, but the building itself hides the remains of a Roman settlement, so you'll be living and breathing history. 

Nova Inspirada

Stay in one of Lisbon's most prestigious avenues, Avenida da Liberdade, in this stylish apartment with a 24-hour concierge and shared indoor pool. Though the kitchen is a little sparse, it’s got all the essentials for quick breakfasts and at-home lunches. Double glass doors lead to a private terrace with a table and chairs for tipples outside and an astroturf lawn. Or, head out to the fado bars and restaurants of central Lisbon, all within easy walking distance.

The Eucalyptus

Ideally located opposite Praça dos Restauradores, this carefully curated apartment offers a comfortable, central base from which to explore Lisbon’s most celebrated sights. 
 
Step into the open-plan living area where tall ceilings, wood floors and a kaleidoscope of colourful furnishings await. Make yourself comfortable on the plump sofa with a cup of fresh coffee and a locally bought pastel de nata, or perch by the Juliet balcony with a glass of Portuguese wine after a day of exploring the city. The dining table beckons sociable soirées when you’re not out sampling the local dining scene, while the two pared-back bedrooms offer a sound night’s sleep. Factor in the pair of sleek bathrooms – one of which has a luxurious rainfall shower – and you've got everything you need for a relaxing stay. 
 
Outside of your home, you’ve got plenty of cultural hotspots nearby, including the Santa Justa Lift (a seven-minute walk), the Carmo Convent (also a seven-minute walk), Praça do Comércio (a fifteen-minute walk) and lively Pink Street (a twenty-minute walk). 


Return of the Stone

Located just a two-minute walk away from Avenida da Liberdade, this home is a great stay for those interested in a little shopping during their trip to Lisbon. It's a lovely spot to hang out between adventures, with parquet floors and decorations made by local Portuguese artists. This home gets great natural light at all times of the day, thanks to the wall-wide windows in both the living area and the bedroom. However, we think you'll want to head up to the fabulous shared roof terrace, where you can chill out on the up-cycled furniture and sip a cool drink while admiring the views over the Marquês de Pombal neighbourhood. This district is known for its eclectic collection of eateries and luxury boutiques, but is also well-connected to the older parts of the city. Simply stroll to Bairro Alto and Chiado in around half an hour, or hop on the metro – it's just at the end of the street.

Juniper & Cream

Housed in an 18th-century building just ​​seconds from Avenida da Liberdade in Lisbon, this beautifully bright home is a stylish, comfortable base from which to explore the city’s most iconic sights. With its Juliet balconies, frescoed walls and laid-back contemporary furnishings, there’s a feeling of history blended with a modern minimalism that feels effortlessly Portuguese. We love the kitchen’s stone sink and the sunny dining area that invites breakfasts over fresh coffee and pastéis de nata, while the bedroom is pared-back and elegant with its Juliet balcony proffering red rooftop views. With a lovely desk space at your disposal too, there will be no shortage of inspiration should business call, though, with countless things to see and do on your doorstep, we suggest less work and more play when you can. Speaking of sightseeing, the Santa Justa Lift is just a seven-minute walk away, São Jorge Castle is walkable in fifteen, while Praça do Comércio is thirteen minutes away on foot. 


Linda Avenida

This home is a peaceful city oasis, perfect for those who want to escape the city noise. Furnished with a love for rustic elegance, it gives off a sense of fairytale glamour. Most of the furniture has been hand-picked and brought over from Indonesia by the host in search if the perfect textural patterns, giving this home a harmonious vibe in every room. While we loved the hand-carved details and the woodwork in the living room, our favourite is the traditionally paved terrace – perfect for lazy afternoon lunches. 

Fay Well

Located just a five-minute walk from the Praça do Marquês de Pombal, this colourful home is an ideal base for those looking to experience a more local side to Lisbon. Inside, the living room pops in shades of mint and sage while wall-length windows let in plenty of natural light. The bedroom, too, boasts the same large windows and herringbone floors, with its striking black and sand-coloured walls creating a peaceful space to retreat to after a day of seeing the sights. After enjoying a soak under the shower in the subway-tiled bathroom and sitting down to coffee and a pastéis de nata at the Scandi dining table, head out to explore your surroundings. The Parque Eduardo VII is a five-minute walk away, the Santa Justa Lift is walkable in twenty-five minutes, while the shop and restaurant-lined Avenida da Liberdade is a thirteen-minute stroll from your door. 


Juniper & Moss

Tucked away inside a typical Lisbon townhouse, this cute and characterful space is a delightful surprise. With a wooden Pombaline frame that transforms the communal area into a library, this home is an excellent option for an avid reader – the outdoor balcony will win over the rest with gorgeous views of the nearby botanical garden. While most visitors flock to the likes of Alfama and Bairro Alto, this stunning apartment is located in the heart of Principe Real. Admittedly, it's further away from the historical city centre, but its pastel-coloured mansion apartments and wide boulevards provide it with a charm all of its own. You'll find the enchanting ten-acre Jardim Botânico de Lisboa and the lush Jardim do Príncipe Real within a five-minute walk. While your capable kitchen can handle anything you can throw at/over it, you're spoiled for choice when it comes to local eateries – it's a veritable foodie heaven. Choose to chow down at A Cevicheria, where you can indulge in a light and zesty menu of citrus-cured fish and mouth-puckering pisco sours. Alternatively, Atalho Real plates up melt-in-the-mouth meat in a relaxed environment. Once you've eaten your fill, there's a tempting choice of local bars where you can keep the party going – Pavilhão Chinês serves imaginative long drinks in an old grocery store packed with flea market finds and bric-a-brac. At the same time, cult favourite Foxtrot might be reminiscent of a good old British pub, but the creative cocktail menu promises so much more. 



Green Library

On one of the main roads in the city (and alongside some very high-end shops), Sandhill is in a stunning location. It’s actually within a shopping plaza, and restaurants, bars, and the main tourist sights are all easy to reach as well. The flat is decorated simply, but in a wholesome, respectable manner. The lack of flash is by no means indicative of a lack of effort on the part of the host. We particularly liked the little balcony, which was perfect for a morning coffee, or an evening glass of wine.


Sandhill

A mixture of rustic chic and fairytale glamour, this home is a peaceful oasis for those who want to avoid the hustle and bustle of central Lisbon but still stay within reach of the sights. Most of the furniture has been imported from Indonesia by the discerning hosts, and we think you'll love the intricate textures and soothing colour scheme. The patio, complete with a small plunge pool, is a quiet, sunny spot ideal for quick breakfasts and long, lazy lunches. You'll find Rato Metro stop just a minute's walk away, meaning it's easy to whizz into the centre of the city. The popular neighbourhood of Bairro Alto is just a ten-minute walk away too, with its famous steep streets and bohemian flair. 

Fay Garden

Housed in a traditional Pombaline-style building, this sunny spot in Principe Real is perfect for those exploring the city. Uncover the boutiques, bars and art galleries of neighbouring Bairro Alto, less than a fifteen minutes' walk away or go for a cultural day trip to Sao Jorge Castle, only a half-hour wander from your door. Back inside, you'll find modern and clean interiors with comfy furnishings that hark back to Portugal's historic roots, creating a cosy and homely feel from the get-go. Continue socialising over a glass of red as you cook for your guests in the open kitchen-dining area, benefitting from marble surfaces, artist lighting and stylish chairs. The home's warm colour palette (think red, orange and yellow) makes for a friendly living space where you'll enjoy relaxing after a day spent discovering this thriving city. Of course, with Lisbon's glorious climate, you'd be amiss not to have your own private balcony where you can soak up the sunshine, sip your morning espresso and watch the world go by below – so, naturally, there's a wrap-around terrace at the front and another balcony at the back of the apartment.
