You’ll be transported to the historic heart of Lisbon with a stay in this Baixa apartment. From sightseeing at Praça do Comércio to sunset drinks and riverside strolls, this is the ideal spot for a city break. And while the location is a highlight, this home is just as appealing. You’ll be welcomed by a wonderful sense of style along with personal touches like a handpicked bottle of wine and local delicacies. There’s a yoga mat, a sound system and all the essentials you could need to relax and unwind.

The Rui

Settle into this home away from home in the heart of Lisbon. Ideal for work or leisure, furry friends are welcome here for an extra fee and there's a dedicated office space with high-speed wi-fi. The private balcony, while on the smaller side, lets you enjoy the sun and fresh air, though the street views perhaps aren't the most inspiring. The location does mean there is the potential for outside noise, though earplugs provide an easy solution for this. But we think the convenience makes up for this, with shops and restaurants within walking distance and public transport right on your doorstep.

The Sea Water Flower

This apartment might be modern, but the view is all old-world Lisbon. Inside, the living room feels like a 60s entertainer’s paradise, with velvet sofas, gallery-white walls and curious sculptures lining the room. Slide open the wall of glass and step out onto the terrace which has a view of modern Lisbon in one direction, and the orange roofs and townhouses of old in the other. The kitchen continues the charming retro theme, where lipstick red dining chairs offer space for the whole group. The master bedroom feels super plush with a purple velvet feature headboard, while the twin room is a cheerful shade of sunflower-yellow. We love the little nod to Portuguese tradition in the azelujo tiles in the family bathroom. This place is in the modern neighbourhood of Saldanha, a haven of sleek shopping streets and ultra-modern coffee shops. A twenty-minute stroll sees you in the winding, cobbled streets of Alfama, crowned with a castle, or the grand streets of Baixa packed with local restaurants and bars.

Mid-Century Modern

Located in a historical building in Picoas, which was designed by the esteemed Modernist architect Cassiano Branco, Mind Garden is a unique home. While the furniture is quite unobtrusive, the bare architectural bones take centre stage, expressing themselves most obviously in the dining pavilion. Natural light will never be a problem in this home, but taller guests might not appreciate the sloping ceilings in the communal area. While the streets of Picoas aren't as central as Baixa, they are extremely well-connected to the riverside while maintaining a local flavour.

Mind Garden

Centuries of history are embedded in this Bairro Alto apartment – hand-painted azulejo tiles line the dining room walls, and ancient arched ceilings arch overhead in the living room, giving the place a sense of place that few city apartments can match. Step outside and you're in a walled 17th-century convent garden, a rare pocket of calm in central Lisbon. Chiado and Príncipe Real are within easy walking distance, Alfama's medieval alleys are a twenty-four-minute walk, and São Jorge Castle – with its sweeping panoramic views – is fifteen minutes on foot.

Cloister & Azulejos

Located in the Graça neighbourhood of Lisbon, this spot offers views across the Tagus River and Lisbon's National Pantheon. Just a four-minute walk from the nearest supermarket and Portuguese bakery, the balcony terrace makes an idyllic little spot to sit with your morning coffee and pastries overlooking the city's rooftops. However, it's worth noting that the kitchen is small, and its compact layout makes it difficult to cook more substantial meals. Conveniently, the bedrooms feature air conditioning, although we think the fourth bedroom (with a double sofa bed) is better suited to one guest rather than two.

The Watercolour Effect

This home is situated in the cultural hotspot of the Intendente district, close to the city centre, so you’ll find plenty of multicultural food options and azulejo-covered old buildings. There are some beautiful views from the nearby Chapel of Our Lady of the Mountain, as well as the Mirador Nuestra Señora del Monte. Intendente Station on the Green Line of the Lisbon Metro is under a five-minute walk away, so the rest of Lisbon is easy to access, too.

Inside this stylish apartment, multiple French doors allow light to flood in. Pour a glass of wine and take in the views over the neighbourhood from the small balconies. We love the polished wooden floors and grey colour scheme enlivened by pops of cheerful yellow.

Later, rustle up some tasty bacalhau (salt cod) with olives and potatoes in the sleek kitchen for dinner. If you need to catch up on work, upstairs, there’s an office area with an industrial vibe with its metal storage cabinet and concrete ceiling. This place is perfect for families, friends or business professionals.

Yellow Linaria

With its calm aesthetic and thoughtful design, this Alvalade apartment delivers the ideal setting for an inspiring city stay. Inside, you can listen to records while relaxing in the open-plan living room. Remote workers will appreciate the dedicated desk space, while the bedrooms make it easy to switch off and unwind. You will need to bring your own essentials and there is no private parking here, but you will find everything you could need within easy reach. From here, it’s just a short walk to local restaurants, cafes and shops, while public transport links are also just a short stroll away.

A Love Poem

Nestled in one of Lisbon’s most creative neighbourhoods, this Santos apartment is just as inviting as its location. You’ll be treated to stylish interiors and a welcome gift with a bottle of wine and local delicacies. The layout is perfect for couples and solo travellers with the handy addition of a desk if you need to catch up on work. And when you’re ready to dive into the action, it’s a short stroll to local coffee shops, boutiques, galleries and museums.

Slow Sun

Located in the multicultural area of Martim Moniz, in vibrant downtown Lisbon – this modern apartment has a great address. The metro and iconic Tram 28 station are close by so it’s easy to explore this wonderful city. Several of Lisbon's main attractions are nearby too, including the historic Castelo de S. Jorge. The apartment itself is housed in a characterful blue-hued building, and unusually for an older building, it has a lift. Inside, you’ll find elegant light-filled interiors and several balconies to enjoy the views over Lisbon’s rooftops and beyond.

Watercolour on Stone

Perched on top of a renovated townhouse, View & Walkability boasts a fantastic location and a great view from the balcony. Rua de São Nicolau is within walking distance to all the central sights, restaurants, and cafes – but the central location does translate to a vibrant atmosphere that won't suit those who are looking for a tranquil stay. Our favourite hangout spot in this home is the balcony, which is great for a morning coffee, but even on rainy days, the living room gets great natural light. We also loved the eclectic design that mixes the old and new.

View & Walkability

Located right next to the leafy gardens of the Gulbenkian Foundation and Museum, this bright apartment is the ideal stay for those wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of central Lisbon. Though this neighbourhood is set a little further from the busier stretches of town, there are plenty of places nearby to grab a cup of coffee, do some boutique shopping or tuck into a delicious dinner. And with a metro station just a ten-minute walk away, getting around the rest of the city is a breeze. You'll love retreating to this quiet neck of the woods after a busy day, and this sleek and cosy apartment is the definition of relaxing. With a modern kitchen, comfortable living room (the plush blue couch is perfect for lounging) and stylish bedrooms, you'll have everything you need to feel completely at home. Maria, your friendly host, even leaves a bottle of Portuguese wine for you to enjoy. Take it out onto the balcony – which overlooks the gardens – and savour it as the sun goes down.
