This spacious villa on the Algarve coast was designed with families in mind. For kids, there’s a playpark in the garden and a swimming pool for cooling off. Tucked away in Vilamoura, this cosy apartment is an ideal base for exploring all that the Algarve has to offer. As you’d expect with a studio, space is limited here, but you’ll find everything needed for a comfortable stay. While it can sleep three guests, with one on the sofa bed, it’s worth noting that it’s an open space – for this reason, we think it’s better suited to a couple or small family who don’t mind sharing. That said, with Vilamoura beach and golf courses galore nearby, along with the communal pool to cool off in the heat, you’re bound to be out and about most days.

Within driving distance of several exquisite beaches, this resort apartment is calling all sun lovers to its doors. But the proximity to Praia de Vilamoura and other sandy shores isn't the only great thing about this family pad. The apartment itself has a balcony where you can enjoy alfresco meals together. Two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed in the living space. We love how this home brings the outside in and, indeed, the inside out – thanks in part to the huge floor-to-ceiling windows that fill the living spaces with light and provide direct access to the garden and its outdoor kitchen with dining table, laid-back seating area, and shaded terraces that are perfect for getting out of the sun and into a good book. 

In the summer months in particular, the carefully designed exterior spaces of the property are all about comfortable outdoor living – and we think you'll be amazed and just how much time you can spend outside when you have all the facilities you could need (not to mention that glorious Portuguese sun blazing triumphantly overhead). 

One of the best bits of this home has got to be that swimming pool. Tiled in a myriad of tiny mosaic tiles, the shades of which span from light turquoise to deep teal and so emulate the colours of the glistening Meditteranean Sea, and offering steps down into its refreshing waters, we think the prospect of a dip is simply too good to resist. Slide into the pool for the perfect morning wake-up call, before drying off in the sun and rejoining everyone else for breakfast to start the day off the right way. 

Does today feel like a beach day? Or perhaps you'd rather amble into Quarteira or the other small towns that dot the hills here to check out some of the cafés, restaurants, and shops. Tucked away on a quiet street in Albufeira’s historic Old Town, this studio apartment is the perfect base for a couple or solo traveller looking for a convenient location in the Algarve. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and situated only a few minutes walk from dos Pescadores beach, you couldn’t be better positioned if your priority is proximity to the sand. While the apartment is small, it does have a kitchenette and an alfresco dining terrace where you can enjoy home-cooked breakfasts in the sun.

This smart apartment, perched just 950 metres from the beach and with the bustle of the old town close by, ticks the right boxes. Part of a holiday complex, you'll share a swimming pool and wider grounds. So if you're looking for privacy and seclusion, there might be a better place for you. But with so many amenities on foot and a private balcony for evening drinks, it's a compromise we're happy to make.

Designed and built for the Brazilian F1 racing driver Rubens Barrichello, this impressive villa is a haven for those who enjoy the finer things in life. It’s only natural, then, that this luxurious home is found in Quinta do Lago – one of Portugal’s most exclusive resort areas. 

The airy, open-plan living area is sleek and stylish, with glass doors and plenty of space for guests to get comfortable. Relaxation is key here – there's even your very own sauna where you can sweat out your worries, and a fitness room for invigorating workouts. Head outside, and you'll find mature gardens, an outdoor kitchen, dining furniture, and a fabulous jacuzzi. And, as if that wasn't enough, there's a sparkling swimming pool to make a splash in too. 

Keen golfers will be in paradise, given that this chic four-bedroom home overlooks the Quinta do Lago golf course, while anyone more inclined to give their credit card a workout, rather than their golf clubs, will want to head straight to the nearby Quinta Shopping Plaza. And, if you fancy a trip to the shore, then Ancao Beach is just a fifteen-minute drive away – bask on the golden sand, dip your toes in the ocean, or even try your hand at some watersports.

Located within the Golden Triangle of the Algarve, this home not only has a fantastic address but also has plenty of spots to enjoy the outdoors. There are two outdoor lounges, perfect for cocktails, and a fabulous balcony with gorgeous countryside views, as well as a sparkling pool to cool off from the Portuguese sun. We adore the vibrant bougainvillea that cascades down the walls. For those who love to entertain, there's a barbecue, heritage-style outdoor kitchen and a fire pit, so you can unwind into the evening.

This home is really primed for fun – watch a favourite film or play some pool with your family or friends in the cinema and games room – there's a little bar here too. In the living space, you'll find glossy cream floor tiles and cosy throws to snuggle up with in front of the antique-style fireplace. All bedrooms have fine linen, plush velvet, and luxurious en-suites – we particularly love the bedroom with the zebra print wallpaper.

Situated in tranquil, family-friendly Almancil, there's an excellent gourmet restaurant and many amenities just over 300 metres away. You'll find shops a short drive from this home, too. There are some amazing golf courses nearby, including one of the most famous – Vale de Lobo (2 kilometres away) – which British golfer Henry Cotton designed. Praia do Vale do Lobo beach, too, is 4 kilometres from the villa – it's ideal for those who love unspoilt beaches.

Cascading Bougainvillea

Nestled in a quiet neighbourhood, this home takes you away from the hustle and bustle yet still provides easy access to the Algarve coast. Best suited to a couple or small family due to its open-plan nature, this is a comfortable base for up to three guests providing one person is happy to sleep on the sofa bed in the living area. The private terrace promises a sunny yet secluded spot for morning coffee, while the shared pool will cool you down in the heat of the day. With an abundance of beaches lining this stretch of coast, and golf courses aplenty, you’ll never be short of things to do here. 

Algarve Blush

We absolutely love the feel of this house. Combining authentic Portuguese charm with quirky touches such as the mosaic detailing in the living/dining and the carefully curated collection of colourful art, as soon as you enter you get a real sense of the home's unique identity and can tell how much love and care has been put into the finishing and maintaining of it. 

With three twin bedrooms, one double, and two extra sleeping places in the communal areas of the home, we think it would be ideal for extended family groups or a friends' getaway, whilst its prime location close to the restaurants, bars, and cafés of this part of Albufeira – as well as just 500 metres from the nearest sandy beach – make it a great base for a special holiday in the Algarvian sun. 

Start your day with a dip in the inviting turquoise waters of the swimming pool as the scent of the lemon trees warming in the sun begins to hang heavier in the air, before enjoying a leisurely breakfast on one of the numerous terraces. Perhaps you'll go to the beach, or into town to check out the shops and sample some of the fresh seafood delicacies on offer. Or maybe you'll finally make a dent in that book. No matter how your day pans out, come together in the evening by the traditional wood-fired barbecue to enjoy a homecooked feast of delectable local produce picked up from a local supermarket. 

One of our favourites has got to be the flavourful chicken piri-piri from this region. So why not try to replicate those spicy, savoury flavours before grilling it to perfection –yourself? Though you could always just head down towards the strip and get a taste of the real thing if you've hung up your chef's hat for the week...
