If you’d prefer to leave the cooking to the professionals, there's the option of hiring a private chef at this address who can take care of mealtimes. Once dinner is piping hot and ready to serve, there's a huge dining table to seat the whole party and spend long evenings around. 

If you ever fancy a breath of fresh air at any point, there's a balcony with a pleasant view of the street below. Outside, Bolhão market is only a five-minute walk away when you want to pick up some fresh, local ingredients, while Bolsa Palace can be reached in just over fifteen if you're in the mood for some culture. Finish the day with some sunset watching at the Vitória viewpoint, an eighteen-minute stroll from your doorstep.

So, while this fuss-free home may not be filled with luxurious finishes, it’s all about the location for us. It’s a comfortable space for four people, just bear in mind that the second bedroom is an interior room, so lacks natural light. That said, we think this makes it a perfect spot for a restful, undisturbed sleep.

Porto's Heritage Heart

For foodies visiting Porto, the location doesn’t get much better than this. It’s a two-minute walk from the restaurant and shop-lined Rua Santa Catarina and the streets around the apartment are filled with spots serving local Portuguese cuisine. It’s also just a four-minute walk to Mercado do Bolhão with its fresh produce stalls galore. Stock up and head back to your haven in the city centre.

A fully-equipped kitchen can turn that fresh veg into a hearty family feast in no time and dining is a delight in the sunny spot. The living room is sleek and minimalist with two slate-grey sectionals providing plenty of room for everyone. From here, you can admire the rooftop view out the window. A nice touch is the vintage TV cabinet, which hides a record player to set the right ambience. Wooden floors and cornicing like icing on a cake in the bedrooms feel distinctly classic Porto. 

Two Tribes

This tranquil apartment is a true haven away from the hustle and bustle of Porto. Whether you're in the city to see friends, tick off your sightseeing list, or simply enjoy a break from everyday life, you'll feel right at home in this fully renovated 1950s art deco house built by Mario Augusto Ferreira de Abreu.

Step inside the building and find an original marble entrance stairway, before entering your open-plan apartment that is perfect for socialising with your guests over a glass of wine or meal cooked in the fully-equipped kitchen. The neutral colour scheme, organic shapes, and natural textures create a tranquil atmosphere where you can truly relax. The south-facing bedroom is bathed in sunlight, and the private balcony has direct access to the courtyard - if you can tear yourself away from the luxury 300tc linens. The internal garden, accessible and shared with the other units, is a little oasis in an otherwise busy part of the creative heart of Porto.

The surrounding neighbourhood is a mixture of old and new architecture, and you can stroll to the banks of the Duoro River in around ten minutes. Several of the most impressive churches in Porto are within easy walking distance, including the Igreja de Santo Ildefons which is twelve minutes away. Head to the Fontainhas Viewpoint for epic panoramas, and stroll down one of Porto's most emblematic streets, Rua de Passos Manuel. With plenty of cafés, port bars, and restaurants nearby, make sure you try out the local specialties.

The first thing you'll notice is that your hosts have taken great care to preserve the original nineteenth-century features of this home while adding sophistication and style into the mix. Alongside stone walls, exposed timber frames and original wood flooring, you'll encounter bold printed wallpaper, mid-century furniture and plenty of gold accents to add a touch of luxury.

With its elevated top-floor position and sky-high vaulted ceiling, every corner of this city-centre flat is illuminated by natural light – a real rarity in these older buildings. We loved the covered balcony, where we could imagine nothing better than sitting in the wicker throne, a glass of local wine in hand, as the sound of live music drifts up from the streets below. Despite the central location, the apartment is calm and tranquil, making it perfect for families with children – especially when you add the second bunk room into the mix.

Down at street level, the neighbourhood has everything you could need, including traditional restaurants, cool cafes and well-stocked supermarkets. Meanwhile, Porto's main sights are within easy walking distance, with the riverfront promenade at Cais da Ribeira and the Neoclassical Palácio da Bolsa both a twenty-minute walk away.


Lofty Expectations

Guests rave about the location of this Porto apartment, and it’s easy to see why. Set in a quiet corner of Ribeira, the Douro River, Praça da Ribeira Square, and neoclassical Bolsa Palace are all just a short stroll away.
