Each bedroom is comfortable, and though the third does lack some homely touches, it’s still a pleasant enough space to get some shut-eye at the end of a busy day.

Down a narrow street in the heart of Porto's oldest neighbourhood, this area exudes historical charm and is marked by the medieval origins of the city. You'll find popular attractions just a short walk away, including the iconic São Bento Train Station, the stunning Cathedral and the breathtaking Bolsa Palace. Catch a tram along the riverfront and take in the city's sights and sounds. Pick up a tasty Francesinha sandwich to indulge in the ultimate Portuguese comfort food before heading back to sip some world-famous Port wine on the balcony and watch the remarkable sunset. Inside the apartment you’ll find the thick, white-wash walls keep everything cool, even in the height of summer. Vibrant modern artworks adorn the walls and traditional wooden shutters open up to reveal a view of Porto’s shambling old rooftops from the living room. Pendant lamps and pot plants lends a boho feel to the compact kitchen, which has everything you need for self-catering if you grow tired of Francesinha sandwiches.

This modern apartment is in the middle of Porto, an easy walk from the Douro River where you’ll find the famous wine warehouses and day cruises. The streets around this place are packed with restaurants and bars, yet the living room faces an internal courtyard for a bit of peace. While there’s nothing particularly unique about the design, the open living area is a comfy spot to unwind with a full kitchen for meals at home. The main bedroom leads out to a private balcony which is great for a breath of fresh air, despite the lack of view.

Set within a beautiful 20th-century building, the owners have sensitively styled this home to enrich daily living with ease and joy. From the artisanal products crafted by local designers to the gentle lighting, every detail feels considered and intentional. So whether you’re enjoying a quiet morning coffee on the sofa, preparing a delicious meal or catching up on work, you’ll find this home seamlessly adapts to suit the need of the moment. 

Open the doors from the living room and you’ll discover the idyllic terrace – this is the perfect spot to watch the sky transform with golden-hour drinks. 

Stepping onto Santa Catarina, you’ll find the Chapel of Souls and the renowned Majestic Café are just a short stroll away, while the atmospheric streets of Ribeira are less than a twenty-minute walk away. 

The Violette Dream  

Situated in Santo Ildefonso – this stylish downtown apartment is a great find. Admire the Igreja de Santo Ildefonso – and 18th-century, twin-towered church clad in beautiful blue-and-white azulejos, a nine-minute stroll away, while Avenida dos Aliados, a hub for banking and transport, is six minutes on foot. Have an amble around the district marvelling at the UNESCO-listed eighteenth-century buildings, or head to Porto Cathedral, a twelve-minute saunter. For fresh produce, Mercado do Bolhão is a mere two-minute wander – pick up some local delicacies to take back to this home. Much like Porto itself, this abode blends the historic with modern design for a stay that pops. It's not the street art or hand-painted tiles you might expect of a Portuguese apartment. Instead, this home adheres to the Scandi-chic minimalist vibe, offering a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the city's streets. White walls in the open-plan living room bounce with sunlight, and the chaise sofa is ideal for movie nights, while each of the bedrooms continues the clean theme, with a splash of teal on the headboards. Among the minimalist stylings, groups will have plenty of homely space to hang out in – we love the monochrome kitchen and its big dining table for family dinners and a few glasses of Port.

Stop The Clocks

This modern pad in the heart of Bolhão offers everything needed for a fuss-free getaway to Porto. It’s ideal for reaching all the city’s sights, including the Torre dos Clérigos, Mercado do Bolhão and Avenida dos Aliados. Inside, you'll find a bright and stylish space, where you can enjoy morning coffees on the balcony and homemade suppers together around the dining table. Though do keep in mind that one person will be sleeping on a sofa bed at full capacity and you'll need to climb an external staircase to reach the entrance of the home. 

Bolhão Artistic

Located only a few minutes away from Bolhão Market, Sunglasses is surrounded by cosy cafes, art galleries, and shops. This is a bright home with a pleasant atmosphere and plenty of spots to hang out and relax. The design is heavily focused on functionality rather than aesthetics, but the simplicity works well with the open layout. From here, you'll have easy access to the central sights and the walk down to the riverside is filled with great bars and restaurants where you can refuel. 

Sunglasses

This stylish apartment is a superb base in Porto. It’s in a wonderfully central location close to many of the city’s most popular sights, including the Sé do Porto, which you can walk to in less than thirty minutes. For further afield attractions, you can hop on the metro at Heroísmo station, a 140-metre walk away. The apartment is close to restaurants and cafes, as well as some excellent pastry shops – you’ll never be too far from your next pastel de nata. We love the simplicity of this attractive home, with its petite balcony and open-plan living and dining space. It’s a great choice for a large group. 

Pretty in Porto

For foodies visiting Porto, the location doesn’t get much better than this. It’s a two-minute walk from the restaurant and shop-lined Rua Santa Catarina and the streets around the apartment are filled with spots serving local Portuguese cuisine. It’s also just a four-minute walk to Mercado do Bolhão with its fresh produce stalls galore. Stock up and head back to your haven in the city centre.

A fully-equipped kitchen can turn that fresh veg into a hearty family feast in no time and dining is a delight in the sunny spot. The living room is sleek and minimalist with two slate-grey sectionals providing plenty of room for everyone. From here, you can admire the rooftop view out the window. A nice touch is the vintage TV cabinet, which hides a record player to set the right ambience. Wooden floors and cornicing like icing on a cake in the bedrooms feel distinctly classic Porto. 

Two Tribes

A comfortable, spacious apartment for a large group, this home is modern and practical. With five bedrooms and five bathrooms, it's the perfect spot for a large group of friends or an extended family. Here you'll have a well-equipped kitchen for cooking at home, an open-plan living area and even a small balcony.

Step outside and you're around a five-minute walk from the Bolhão market, packed with colourful fresh produce, and a couple of minutes from one of Porto's most famous dining streets, lined with traditional restaurants. The riverside is a pleasant, twenty-minute stroll and everything in between is easily walkable.   

Alexandrina

This modern pad in the heart of Bolhão is an idyllic spot for a Porto getaway. It’s ideal for reaching all the city’s sights, including the Church of Saint Ildefonso, Mercado do Bolhão and Miradouro das Fontainhas. It’s a modern and bright space, where you can enjoy morning coffees on the balcony and dinners together around the dining table. With such a central location, some noise is expected, though we expect you’ll want to be soaking up the atmosphere yourself in one of the local eateries.
