Set on the elegant Rua das Flores, this gorgeous two-bedroom flat offers you the perfect base to explore central Porto. Located up on the fourth floor, you'll enjoy breathtaking vistas over the neighbourhood rooftops towards Porto's Romanesque cathedral.

Inside, the main open-plan living space offers more than enough space for four to unwind, dine and socialise in comfort. A large corner sofa is set right by the French doors. On warm days, you can open them up to the outside world and let the city atmosphere float in on the breeze. Elsewhere, there's a four-seater dining table and a well-equipped kitchenette.

A picturesque part of the city, in the heart of the old town, Ribeira is a riverside spot overlooking the Douro River where you can visit Praça da Ribeira square which is lined with colourful 18th-century townhouses, and visit Bolsa Palace, a neoclassical landmark with ornate interiors which is a short three-minute walk from your door. At dinner time, weave your way through the cobbled streets of Ribeira where you will find plenty of small bars and eateries – to taste classic Portuguese fare such as grilled sardines.

This home is also perfectly situated to explore everything else that Porto has to offer. There's limited living space and the kitchen is only suitable for preparing light bites, but it's a good pick for solo travellers or couples. You'll notice the colourful decor that creates a welcoming home, while the exposed stone is a nice touch. This home nearly feels like staying on a boat – what with the large French doors opening directly onto the Douro River. Whether you’re sat on the sofa or enjoying a coffee at the dining table, you’ll have sweeping views of the water and the city. The windows’ second benefit is the sheer amount of light the living space gets, bathing the tasteful furniture in the warm sun. We could spend hours with a book in the armchair, taking in the sea air as the day grows to a peak. But of course, this central location leaves much to be explored. You can wander along the riverfront’s picturesque fishing neighbourhoods, hopping on the 1930s tram that runs to Foz. Or, board on a boat that will take you to the famous terraced Douro vineyards to sample Vinho Verde and Port. You’ll be walking distance from beautiful historic buildings, located in one of the quietest streets of Ribeira, and only a thirteen-minute walk from São Bento Railway Station – which will connect you all over the city.

They say good things come in small packages and this practical apartment lives up to the saying. As central as Porto bases get, you’ll be close to a host of cultural and historic must-sees, including Clérigos Tower, Porto Cathedral and the bustling Cais da Ribeira district. The many nearby restaurants make up for the pocket-sized kitchenette, and while the decor isn’t the most inspiring here, beamed ceilings and a sleek en-suite are nice touches we appreciate. Just be aware you’ll need to climb the stairs up to the entrance – but as another saying goes, all good things require effort.

Calling all foodies – this charming flat in Bolhão is just steps away from some of Porto's most delicious restaurants and cafes. Situated in Praça dos Poveiros, this is the local's go-to gathering place for good food, free-flowing drinks and laughter-packed conversations. There's no shortage of spots here to wine and dine the night away, but that's not the only reason we love this location. You're close to almost everything – stroll three minutes and visit the blue-tiled Igreja de Santo Ildefonso, wander ten to reach Avenida dos Aliados or head down to the riverfront and walk along the Ribeira, thirteen minutes away.

The apartment itself is as cosy as can be. We're swooning over the period features – traditional shuttered windows, high ceilings and crown moulding are just a few of our favourite details. A quaint Juliet balcony overlooks the hustle and bustle below – the perfect spot for a morning coffee – while the comfy sofa beckons after a long day on your feet. If you need to work from home, you can even set up shop at the dining table as the sunlight streams into the living area. While we wouldn't suggest rustling up a feast in the kitchen, it's perfectly suited to lighter bites – and besides, with so many mouth-watering eateries on your doorstep, we doubt you'll get up to much cooking.

This beautiful apartment combines modern decor with traditional style as you reside in the city. The walls are made from stone, lit up by the daylight that pours in through the large windows in the living space. Snuggle up on the sofa with the cushions as you watch a movie on the TV together – the aroma of a homecooked meal flowing through the home from the kitchen. 

Enjoy meals at the circular dining table, before heading out onto the balcony to sip on a sumptuous glass of wine – you get a gorgeous skyline view from this spot no matter the time of day. Get comfy under the covers in the bedroom to read a brand new book as the sunlight streams in, accompanied by a mug of hot chocolate. There are restaurants and cafes nearby, in addition to bus stops and Sâo Bento train station – if convenience is key for you, this is a great choice of base. The apartment is simple, allowing the floor-to-ceiling windows to draw the eye. Two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the open-plan living and dining space, which isn’t the most private.

Delicate and soft, this baby blue apartment has plenty of surprises waiting for you. We're swooning over the features – the coffered ceilings wouldn't be amiss in a royal palace, while the iron on the arched window is intricate and charming. Add in the cushy orange sofa, parquet flooring and decadently tiled bathroom and it's love at first sight. The layout is also unique – technically, it's more of a studio, but a glass wall keeps the bedroom separate from the living space. The kitchen is a little basic, but we don't mind – if anything, it gives you an excuse to sample the many delicious eateries in Porto.  

But the best part, by far, is the excellent location. Palácio da Bolsa is two minutes away, and there are cafes, bars and boutiques aplenty on your doorstep. Pretty much everything is within walking distance – be it markets or museums – so we think a couple or solo traveller will be happy to call this place home. Wander down the famous alleys of Ribeira do Porto (a four-minute walk), grab a cocktail at one of the riverside restaurants or just stroll along the Douro and soak up the magic of Porto.

Sitting in a popular district near the Santa Catarina shopping street, this apartment sets you up for a fuss-free stay in the heart of Porto. You'll be within easy walking distance of the city's top attractions and benefit from a charming balcony upon your return home from busy days spent sightseeing. The open kitchen is also well-equipped for preparing light bites, just note there's no oven here. You'll also find a sofa bed in the living area, ideal for those travelling with younger families. However, keep in mind that you'll need to climb stairs to reach the entrance of this first-floor apartment.

Whilst the apartment is housed in a building dating from the 18th century, it’s been completely renovated inside. Set in the heart of Porto, this apartment provides easy access to the historical marvels dotting the city – and when you want to travel further afield, the closest metro is a mere ten-minute walk. So, while this fuss-free home may not be filled with luxurious finishes, it’s all about the location for us. It’s a comfortable space for four people, just bear in mind that the second bedroom is an interior room, so lacks natural light. That said, we think this makes it a perfect spot for a restful, undisturbed sleep.

Ribeira is one of Porto’s most charming and typical neighbourhoods, and this apartment blends right in. Steps from the apartment is the riverfront, where Porto’s famous wine cellars line the banks, and walking the narrow streets of the neighbourhood you’ll find delights like Palacio Bolta three minutes away, and Mercado Ferreira Borges five minutes on foot. The first thing you’ll notice, stepping into the apartment, is the view directly over the Douro River from the wall of big windows in the living room. Wooden shutters add a touch of tradition, and the darkwood dressers and artfully faded Moroccan rugs are in keeping with the building’s history. Hardwood floors lead from the living room, to the compact kitchen in an alcove and through to the bright bedroom where the exposed stone and big sash window motif continues.

Housed in a period building once home to 18th Century bourgeoisie society, the picture windows and ornate balcony that wraps the length of this home remain to tell of its deep history. And though it’s a studio space, we think it’s beautifully formed and full of charm. Ideally suited for a romantic break for two or a single traveller, there’s a cosy nook for your morning breakfast and a well-kitted-out kitchen area for rustling up a light meal. Though let’s face it, in the land of smoked cheese, cured meats, Atlantic-caught seafood, and Pastel de Nata, we suspect you’ll be dining out, a lot. And you won’t have far to go to find all the delicacies, or indeed must-see sights, of the city. You’re just five minutes from some of the city’s most happening bars and restaurants and a twenty-minute stroll from the Duoro River. The famous Livraria Lello, where Harry Potter was born is just around the corner. So is the Clérigos Tower viewpoint – the perfect spot to admire this picture-postcard pretty city.

Boasting pastoral architectural features in combination with minimalist interiors, we were not only impressed with the sleek look but more importantly, the comfort provided. On top of that, you’ll be staying in a fabulous location, especially if you’ve never been to Porto before. You're right by the city centre and close to the most important tourist attractions. Of course, it wouldn't be Porto if wonderful cafes didn't also line the streets.

Rustic Tawny

Situated in the charming Ribeiro neighbourhood, a three-minute walk from the neoclassical Palácio da Bolsa and within touching distance of old-school restaurants serving traditional Portuguese fare, this modern and bright apartment is a great base for exploring all that Porto has to offer.

We loved the light-filled living space, with its huge floor-to-ceiling windows and double-height ceilings. A dining table takes centre stage, encouraging lively breakfasts in the morning and hearty suppers in the evening. There’s also a cosy mezzanine level that is the perfect spot for reclining with a glass of wine before retreating to sumptuous bedrooms for an early night. 

Slip into the narrow cobbled streets and begin your sightseeing adventure. The 12th-century Porto Cathedral is six minutes from your doorstep and the Igreja dos Clérigos with its 75-metre-tall bell tower is reached in less than ten. When it’s time to call it a day, make a beeline for the Vitória viewpoint to watch dusk fall across the city.

When you’re ready to head out, begin with a trip to São Bento Station, famous for its blue-and-white tiles depicting scenes of Portuguese history – it’s only 300 metres away. Pick up a new coffee table book in the emblematic Livraria Lello then enjoy views of the Dom Luís Bridge from a cafe on the bustling Cais da Ribeira. If all that exploring has worked up an appetite, treat yourself to a francesinha (Portugal’s answer to the croque-monsieur) in a nearby eatery.

Situated in the heart of the city, get ready to discover characterful bars and restaurants on your doorstep. This minimalist apartment is great for small groups seeking a comfortable base in one of Porto's hotspots. The small kitchenette is ideal for grab-and-go breakfasts before heading out, and though you'll have to manage two flights of stairs to reach the front door, complimentary essentials await inside to help start your holiday. It's worth noting that one of the bedrooms doesn't have any windows. But, with São Bento metro station a quick stroll away, sightseeing across the city is easy.

Porto Beat

Set within a quiet corner of picturesque Ribeira, with Porto's must-see sights within walking distance, this apartment's location is hard to beat. Take your pick from Praça da Ribeira Square, the neoclassical Bolsa Palace or Douro River – it's all just a short stroll away. Back home, the courtyard garden is a nice touch for morning coffees, even though there's not much of a view. However, the Juliet balcony windows overlooking Porto's rooftops from the living room and main bedroom make up for that.

As you’d expect with a studio, space is limited here but it’s comfortable for a couple or solo traveller. Situated on vibrant Rua das Flores, the city’s main squares and landmarks are mere steps away and for trips further afield, the São Bento metro is within easy reach.
