They say good things come in small packages and this practical apartment lives up to the saying. As central as Porto bases get, you’ll be close to a host of cultural and historic must-sees, including Clérigos Tower, Porto Cathedral and the bustling Cais da Ribeira district. The many nearby restaurants make up for the pocket-sized kitchenette, and while the decor isn’t the most inspiring here, beamed ceilings and a sleek en-suite are nice touches we appreciate. Just be aware you’ll need to climb the stairs up to the entrance – but as another saying goes, all good things require effort. 


Camelot

Poet's Hideout is an elegant split-level home in the tourist centre of Porto – but one of the things we love most about it is that it's still peaceful and quiet. The host has invested a lot of effort and brainpower to make the original architectural features work with modern furniture, and the end result is stunning. This home is closer to an aparthotel than a characterful private residence, but that does come with its perks, like daily cleaning and breakfast, which are included in your stay. 

Poet's Hideout

Guests rave about the location of this Porto apartment, and it’s easy to see why. Set in a quiet corner of Ribeira, the Douro River, Praça da Ribeira Square, and neoclassical Bolsa Palace are all just a short stroll away. It’s worth noting if six guests share, two of you will have to make do with a double sofa bed in the living space. Not ideal for some, but it could work great for family sharing. The small inner courtyard is a nice touch for sundowners, and there’s plenty of space to spill out around the dining table for lazy breakfasts of pastel de natas picked up from the nearby bakeries.

Secret Sanctum

Delicate and soft, this baby blue apartment has plenty of surprises waiting for you. We're swooning over the features – the coffered ceilings wouldn't be amiss in a royal palace, while the iron on the arched window is intricate and charming. Add in the cushy orange sofa, parquet flooring and decadently tiled bathroom and it's love at first sight. The layout is also unique – technically, it's more of a studio, but a glass wall keeps the bedroom separate from the living space. The kitchen is a little basic, but we don't mind – if anything, it gives you an excuse to sample the many delicious eateries in Porto.  

But the best part, by far, is the excellent location. Palácio da Bolsa is two minutes away, and there are cafes, bars and boutiques aplenty on your doorstep. Pretty much everything is within walking distance – be it markets or museums – so we think a couple or solo traveller will be happy to call this place home. Wander down the famous alleys of Ribeira do Porto (a four-minute walk), grab a cocktail at one of the riverside restaurants or just stroll along the Douro and soak up the magic of Porto.

Blue Hues

Located on one of Porto’s liveliest streets, this studio apartment is very close to the iconic Ribeira which can be reached on foot within seven minutes. A picturesque part of the city, in the heart of the old town, Ribeira is a riverside spot overlooking the Douro River where you can visit Praça da Ribeira square which is lined with colourful 18th-century townhouses, and visit Bolsa Palace, a neoclassical landmark with ornate interiors which is a short three-minute walk from your door. At dinner time, weave your way through the cobbled streets of Ribeira where you will find plenty of small bars and eateries – to taste classic Portuguese fare such as grilled sardines.

This home is also perfectly situated to explore everything else that Porto has to offer. Porto Cathedral can be reached within five minutes by foot where you can enjoy the sunlight shining in through the stained glass rose window as you explore one of the city’s oldest Romanesque monuments. Clérgios Tower is just a seven-minute walk away, while a chance to admire the blue-tiled exterior of The Church of Souls – painted with scenes of saints – is just a ten-minute walk from your door.

Go shopping at Livraria Lello, often regarded as one of the most beautiful bookshops in the world – just an eight-minute walk away. Or, experience what Porto is best known for – its port wine production – at a wine tasting room just two minutes away from this home on foot. Whatever you’re looking for in Porto, this home is on the doorstep of sights and city exploration.

Down the Ribeira

We love the vistas over the River Douro and the Gaia district from this home’s Juliet balconies and bedroom windows. Whilst the apartment is housed in a building dating from the 18th century, it’s been completely renovated inside. One thing to note, though, at full capacity, two people will be on a sofa bed in the living space. Situated in one of Porto’s picturesque districts, Ribeira – this apartment boasts an enviable location too. You’ll find a maze of cobbled medieval alleys, cosy bars, and eateries serving traditional cuisine. Attractions nearby include the iconic D. Luís Bridge and the beautiful Bolsa Palace.

Follow the city buzz onto the cobbled streets of Miragaia. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is lined with beautiful townhouses and small eateries serving classic Portuguese dishes. It also offers wonderful views of the Douro River. Make your way down to the water’s edge for a boat trip or take the tram to Foz do Duoro for a day at the beach.

Sip a glass of port wine on this home's private terrace right next to Porto's must-see landmarks and cultural hotspots. With its shaded lounge area and dining table, you'll enjoy sunny breakfasts and sunset dinners out here. This home is ideal for a couple, business professional or young family. 

Inside, it's a modern apartment with plenty of soul and character, due to the exposed beam ceilings and wood floors. Relax with a cup of coffee and a pastel de nata in the comfortable living space, dressed in stylish furnishings and vibrant pops of yellow. Heaps of natural sunlight pour in through the sliding glass doors that can be opened up to make for seamless contemporary living.

When it's time to head out, the ornate Livraria Lello bookshop is right on your doorstep, or walk to Clérigos Tower in just a few minutes – the striking church bells can be seen from various points of the city and are considered something of a characteristic symbol. It's a short stroll to the Palácio da Bolsa and the Cais da Ribeira along the riverfront, teeming with excellent restaurants and cocktail bars.

We love the views over the River Douro and Porto from this home's terrace. You can enjoy the vistas from inside too, where you'll also find stylish interiors with wooden floors, whitewashed beams and a log burner. This home is situated right in the hub of the Port industry. There are plenty of wine cellars offering tours and tastings, such as Fonseca Port Wine Cellars and Caves Cálem within a short walk. For a bird's eye view of the city, head to the nearby Gaia Cable Car, or the stunning Porto Cathedral is a quick drive away. 

Just Around the Riverbend

Found in one of the oldest residential buildings in Porto, this apartment might not look 200 years old thanks to modernisation, but it remains historic. Now updated to house families itching to explore this UNESCO World Heritage City, it's comfortable – though the two bedrooms with the sloped ceilings might be better for kids – and bright with a fantastic location. Walk to Porto Cathedral and other landmarks in minutes, buy fresh produce from the Bolhão market only a short stroll away, and hop on the trams to find points of interest further afield. 

A Little Piece of Porto

If you want your city break to have a side of relaxation and luxury, this is the holiday home for you. This gorgeous duplex sits in a lovely spot close to the River Douro, offering beautiful views across the water. As soon as you arrive, you’ll be drawn out to the balcony, where – if you’re anything like us – you’ll tuck into breakfast each day, and round things off by watching the sunset with a glass of wine. It’s an idyllic spot. 

Inside, the apartment is just as striking. Exposed stone walls and dark wood furniture combine with floor-to-ceiling windows to stunning effect, and everything you need is close to hand. Cook local dishes in the kitchen and dine in together, opening up the balcony doors to merge the indoor and outdoor spaces for cocktail hour. 

When you want to see more of Porto, you’ll find that you’re within easy walking distance of all of the major sights and attractions. You’ll never want to leave this classy and convenient home. 


River View Rest

With stunning Douro River views, the equal of those from the nearby Miradouro da Vitória, this historic building offers up the perfect Porto apartment for your time in the city. 

Come for the top-floor views and stay for the stylish mid-century interior. Why not read a book in the Eames chair beneath the awe-inspiring domed skylight, admire the minimalist artwork casually propped up against the wall, or relax in the elegant living area seating?

Elsewhere, you'll find four bedrooms, two of which stand out for their en-suite bathrooms and direct balcony access. The outdoor space, in particular, makes for a welcome private area when you want some time to yourself. 

When you're not living it up in your scenic sitting room, head out into the streets and discover the historic sights within a stone's throw of your flat. Check out the impressive Palacio da Bolsa on the Unesco-listed Infante D. Henrique Square, five minutes on foot, marvel at Porto's magnificent cathedral, a ten-minute stroll, and use the Gustave Eiffel-designed Luís I Bridge to cross the River Douro, a twelve-minute meander from your front door.
