From its enviable position in the centre of Porto, this stylish yet functional apartment is an excellent choice for families and groups of friends alike. We had a particular soft spot for the individually designed bedrooms and we loved the kitchen’s handy serving hatch.

When you’re ready to explore your surroundings. Begin with a trip to Porto Cathedral, just a short walk from your building. Or why not head down to the water? Amble alongside the Duoro River with an ice cream in hand before watching the world pass by in a charming cafe. In the early evening, we recommend watching the sunset from the nearby Miradouro da Rua das Aldas viewpoint.

With an address on an iconic street, this home is within walking distance of many of Porto’s top attractions. We’re talking about Mercado do Bolhão (five-minutes on foot) and the majestic Clérigos Tower, an eight minute walk away. If you love books, then we’d recommend a browse around Livraria Lello, said to be one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world – it’s well worth the eleven-minute stroll.

Back at this home, take in the views over the city from your private balcony with a glass of rich Port or a cup of coffee. Alternatively, relax on the green mid-century style sofa, next to the potted palm in the light-filled open plan living space. We love that the bedroom opens out onto the balcony too – perfect for breakfast in the morning.

Situated in the heart of Downtown Porto, this apartment places you within easy walking distance of the city's top highlights. Delicate and soft, this baby blue apartment has plenty of surprises waiting for you. We're swooning over the features – the coffered ceilings wouldn't be amiss in a royal palace, while the iron on the arched window is intricate and charming. Add in the cushy orange sofa, parquet flooring and decadently tiled bathroom and it's love at first sight. The layout is also unique – technically, it's more of a studio, but a glass wall keeps the bedroom separate from the living space. The kitchen is a little basic, but we don't mind – if anything, it gives you an excuse to sample the many delicious eateries in Porto.  

But the best part, by far, is the excellent location. Palácio da Bolsa is two minutes away, and there are cafes, bars and boutiques aplenty on your doorstep. Pretty much everything is within walking distance – be it markets or museums – so we think a couple or solo traveller will be happy to call this place home. Wander down the famous alleys of Ribeira do Porto (a four-minute walk), grab a cocktail at one of the riverside restaurants or just stroll along the Douro and soak up the magic of Porto.

Honestly, the maintenance needs a bit of work, and the terraces need tidying up, but the place is just so special. From the spectacular views of the Douro River to the beautiful azulejo tiles and the stone fireplace, it has a distinct soul and Porto charm that we simply can't get enough of – it feels like the kind of place we could spend a long time in. Whether you're drinking a chilled glass of Porto wine from the spacious terrace, taking a dip in the private pool or even washing up in the shower, you'll be able to appreciate the lovely views over the water. Inside, light pours in through the patio doors, creating a bright and airy living space to relax. Full of cream furnishings and neutral tones, it's a homely apartment too. Step outside of the building and be in the heart of Porto, and yet you'll find the immediate neighbourhood is quiet and friendly. Walk to the Jardins do Palácio de Cristal and Museum Soares dos Reis in under ten minutes. Come evening, there's a dazzling array of family-run eateries and hidden bars to discover, just wander down the charming backstreets and see for yourself.

This home is centrally located, so you’ll be able to easily explore on foot and by using the metro. You’re within easy walking distance of Casa da Música, ideal if you’re planning on catching a show during your stay.

Set on the elegant Rua das Flores, this gorgeous two-bedroom flat offers you the perfect base to explore central Porto. Located up on the fourth floor, you'll enjoy breathtaking vistas over the neighbourhood rooftops towards Porto's Romanesque cathedral.

Inside, the main open-plan living space offers more than enough space for four to unwind, dine and socialise in comfort. A large corner sofa is set right by the French doors. On warm days, you can open them up to the outside world and let the city atmosphere float in on the breeze. Elsewhere, there's a four-seater dining table and a well-equipped kitchenette.

Both bedrooms are decorated in similarly neutral tones, with ample storage so you can unpack your bags and settle right in. The main bedroom elevates its offering with an en-suite shower room and Juliette balcony that lets in plenty of natural light.

Down at street level, the pedestrianised Rua das Flores is lined with traditional restaurants and independent shops that occupy the ground floor of historic buildings adorned with azulejo tiles and ornate wrought-iron balconies. We had to break from doing some serious shopping to tell you about this Porto gem. This elegant apartment, housed in a recently renovated 20th-century building, is located right in the heart of the pedestrianised retail hub of Rua Santa Catarina. For fresh produce and a vibrant atmosphere, head to Mercado do Bolhão, a three-minute walk away. It's not all about shopping, though – the Chapel of Souls is a two-minute walk away, where you'll discover its beautiful azulejo tiled façade. Or take a break in the Café Majestic, a beautiful Art Nouveau café, a five-minute walk from this home. A little further, Porto Cathedral is fourteen minutes on foot. Then stop off at the small port wine shop opposite this home and take some back to this apartment.

Inside, there are furnishings from Portuguese designers and artists. Lots of large windows allow light to flood in. We adore the spacious open plan living space with its two French doors, which open onto a small balustraded balcony overlooking the street. Off the bedroom, there's a secluded terrace too, perfect for a coffee or glass of Port. Later, chill out on the mezzanine level or have a game of chess. There's plenty of room for a family or friends to spread out here. If you prefer to eat in, whip up a bacalhau à Gomes (cod casserole) in the modern kitchen and enjoy it at your dining table. Honestly, though, you probably won't be spending that much time indoors with so much on your doorstep.



Blue Sails

This minimalist home is in the heart of Porto, just a fifteen-minute walk from the narrow, bar-filled streets of Ribeira and the grand Avenida dos Aliados. Not many duplexes boast their own private garden in the city centre. This one has a secluded sunny lawn and patio, surrounded by stone walls for the utmost privacy. It’s the perfect spot for a drop of the city’s famed port wine at sunset. Inside, the open-plan kitchen, dining and living room has tall traditional windows letting in tons of natural light. Soft greys and pinks set a cool, calm atmosphere. There’s a separate sitting room with a dedicated remote workspace, should you need to catch up on emails. Bedrooms are housed in thick white stone walls typical of Portuguese design, keeping things cool in summer and cosy in the colder months.

You’ll find this contemporary home in the historic neighbourhood of Porto. The apartment is bright and breezy and can accommodate up to six guests. While it may not be the roomiest home – it’s certainly a great base for a family or group of friends to explore the city. We particularly love the roof terrace, complete with a seating area with views over the city. Authentic restaurants and bars are just a brief walk away, and you’re not far from Bolhao Market, Santa Catarina Street, Aliados Avenue, and the river either.

With a fabulous address in downtown Porto, right in the heart of the city, you’ll find this apartment is near a load of attractions. Points of interest include the Mercado do Bolhão and the Tower and Church of Clérigos, as well as several parks.

Poet's Hideout is an elegant split-level home in the tourist centre of Porto – but one of the things we love most about it is that it's still peaceful and quiet. The host has invested a lot of effort and brainpower to make the original architectural features work with modern furniture, and the end result is stunning. This home is closer to an aparthotel than a characterful private residence, but that does come with its perks, like daily cleaning and breakfast, which are included in your stay.

You'll be able to see the shimmering water from your balcony right on the banks of the Douro River. Just along the quayside, you’ll find Porto’s fabulous wine museum, dedicated to the eponymous drink this city is famous for. Perhaps pick up a bottle or two and take them back to enjoy while you look out from the balcony. In the open kitchen and living room, a glass screen conveniently separates the spaces, creating a division that still allows natural light to flow through. Small porthole windows let in a little extra light and reveal the thick stone foundations of this old building. The decor is decidedly minimalist, with splashes of pop art on the walls. Walk to Porto Cathedral and other landmarks in minutes, buy fresh produce from the Bolhão market only a short stroll away, and hop on the trams to find points of interest further afield. 

A Little Piece of Porto

This modern apartment is in the middle of Porto, an easy walk from the Douro River where you’ll find the famous wine warehouses and day cruises. The streets around this place are packed with restaurants and bars, yet the living room faces an internal courtyard for a bit of peace. While there’s nothing particularly unique about the design, the open living area is a comfy spot to unwind with a full kitchen for meals at home. Make yourself at home in this stunning top-floor apartment situated in the heart of Porto. The first thing you'll notice is that your hosts have taken great care to preserve the original nineteenth-century features of this home while adding sophistication and style into the mix. Alongside stone walls, exposed timber frames and original wood flooring, you'll encounter bold printed wallpaper, mid-century furniture and plenty of gold accents to add a touch of luxury.

With its elevated top-floor position and sky-high vaulted ceiling, every corner of this city-centre flat is illuminated by natural light – a real rarity in these older buildings. We loved the covered balcony, where we could imagine nothing better than sitting in the wicker throne, a glass of local wine in hand, as the sound of live music drifts up from the streets below. Despite the central location, the apartment is calm and tranquil, making it perfect for families with children – especially when you add the second bunk room into the mix.

Down at street level, the neighbourhood has everything you could need, including traditional restaurants, cool cafes and well-stocked supermarkets. Meanwhile, Porto's main sights are within easy walking distance, with the riverfront promenade at Cais da Ribeira and the Neoclassical Palácio da Bolsa both a twenty-minute walk away.


Lofty Expectations

Along the charming cobbled streets of Porto’s Baixa neighbourhood sits Rustic Tawny, a small but beautifully curated studio apartment. Boasting pastoral architectural features in combination with minimalist interiors, we were not only impressed with the sleek look but more importantly, the comfort provided. On top of that, you’ll be staying in a fabulous location, especially if you’ve never been to Porto before. You're right by the city centre and close to the most important tourist attractions. Of course, it wouldn't be Porto if wonderful cafes didn't also line the streets.

Rustic Tawny

Location doesn’t get much better than this in Porto – on a charming shopping street just a couple of streets away from Sao Bento train station. It’s the ideal position to explore the city on foot, with the ancient azulejo-tiled churches and baroque towers punctuating orange-roofed buildings. On your doorstep, you’ve got family-run restaurants, charming coffee shops and bakeries serving oven-fresh custard tarts. Plus, the famous wine warehouses that line the Douro at Ribeira are just a short stroll away.

This studio apartment is a stylish spot to return to after a day exploring downtown Porto. Modern, monochrome artworks sit against striking bottle-green walls, but the first thing that caught our attention was the wall of stone-framed windows, looking out over the tiled buildings of your typical Porto street. Throwing these open, you can listen to the chatter from the street waking up in the morning while dozing in the comfy bed before settling in at plush velvet chairs for a classic breakfast of custard tarts and coffee.

Also, not far away, you'll find attractions such as the lovely landmark, the Boavista Roundabout, as well as the Baroque Clerigos Church and Tower.

We love the ornate tiles in the white kitchen  – whip up some polvo com molho verde here and enjoy it at your dining table. Situated in the charming Ribeiro neighbourhood, a three-minute walk from the neoclassical Palácio da Bolsa and within touching distance of old-school restaurants serving traditional Portuguese fare, this modern and bright apartment is a great base for exploring all that Porto has to offer.

We loved the light-filled living space, with its huge floor-to-ceiling windows and double-height ceilings. A dining table takes centre stage, encouraging lively breakfasts in the morning and hearty suppers in the evening. There’s also a cosy mezzanine level that is the perfect spot for reclining with a glass of wine before retreating to sumptuous bedrooms for an early night. 

Slip into the narrow cobbled streets and begin your sightseeing adventure. The 12th-century Porto Cathedral is six minutes from your doorstep and the Igreja dos Clérigos with its 75-metre-tall bell tower is reached in less than ten. When it’s time to call it a day, make a beeline for the Vitória viewpoint to watch dusk fall across the city.

Inside, while this apartment is studio living, we think it’s expertly formed and feels surprisingly spacious. The designers knew what they were doing here, with earthy textures, warm wooden hues, and pops of botanical greens fusing beautifully.

Over in the made-for-action kitchen, there’s everything you could need to rustle up a bite to eat. And don’t get us started on the bedroom area with charming views over the terrace to the lofty palm trees and blue skies beyond.

Sunny mornings call for breakfast and freshly brewed coffees on the veranda as you hatch plans for the day ahead. And you won’t have far to go when it’s time to get out and about. 

Lose yourself in the city’s alley-woven historic heart brimming with boutiques, including the neo-Gothic, Livraria Lello (twelve minutes on foot) – the bookshop was a source of inspiration for the Harry Potter books, we hear. Grab a sunny spot for a bite to eat at one of the many Petiscarias (that’s Portuguese-style tapas bars to us). Then enjoy a post-lunch hazy walk along the banks of the Douro River (nineteen minutes on foot). Or hop on the Trindade metro station (a four-minute walk away) to discover further-flung corners of this opulent city.

Larger groups looking for a fabulous place to stay in Porto will love this smart apartment. Located in the Bolhão district, right in the centre, it's a fantastic place to begin your adventures in the city. 

Step inside, and you'll find a tranquil space with plenty of contemporary style. The open-plan kitchen and living space are ideal for socialising – you'll love whipping up a feast to share together at the long dining table. Afterwards, you can all settle down on the comfy sofas to sip a couple of glasses of locally-made port and make some plans for the following day. 

A fifteen-minute walk will bring you to the famous Livraria Lello, a haven for book lovers. Architecture fans can visit the city's famous churches, Igreja dos Clérigos and Igreja de Santo Ildefonso, also fifteen minutes away on foot. And, when you need to refuel, you're spoilt for choice with a range of nearby restaurants and port houses where you can eat and drink delicious local delicacies.

With high ceilings and stripped-back woodwork to its trio of Juliet balcony windows, it's full of character, and its recent refurbishment has added a big helping of modern styling and clever design. 

There's a bespoke kitchen packed with everything you'll need for cooking at home, along with a comfy sofa, a little dining area and even a desk. And while this is a studio, the addition of a sleeping platform up a few steps divides the space neatly – creating storage beneath. Step out of bed and straight into your in-room rainfall shower, before making a cup of coffee and opening up the shutters to gaze across at the park.

With wine bars and cafes on your street, you won't have to go far for a true taste of Porto, and the riverside is just a ten-minute walk.

Style and practicality go hand-in-hand at this Lapa district apartment designed by the famed architect Siza Vieira. Each bedroom is as light-filled as the next, thanks to those floor-to-ceiling Juliet balcony windows, and there’s a twin bedroom tailor-made for little ones. It’s worth noting the Metro overground runs close to this home – handy for getting about the city, but the passing trains may take some getting used to. But for a home this central, that’s all par of the course.

Vieira's Place

Right in the heart of the city, this central apartment is ideally suited for those looking to visit the top sights and cultural attractions. Due to the location, there's potential for noise here. Light sleepers may want to pack earplugs. You're right by Ribeira, with the waterfront's restaurants, bars and cafes just a short walk away. There's limited living space and the kitchen is only suitable for preparing light bites, but it's a good pick for solo travellers or couples. Situated in the heart of the city, get ready to discover characterful bars and restaurants on your doorstep. This minimalist apartment is great for small groups seeking a comfortable base in one of Porto's hotspots. The small kitchenette is ideal for grab-and-go breakfasts before heading out, and though you'll have to manage two flights of stairs to reach the front door, complimentary essentials await inside to help start your holiday. It's worth noting that one of the bedrooms doesn't have any windows. But, with São Bento metro station a quick stroll away, sightseeing across the city is easy.

Porto Beat

Cedofeita is slightly off the beaten track, but still a part of Porto's busy city centre. After you pass the neighbourhood's cosy cafes and art galleries, you'll quickly get to the riverside and other central sights. Fernando & Amalia is a simple, immaculate home with ample natural light and high-quality furniture. The building faces a busy street, which is great if you want to grab a taxi – but the communal areas are a little noisy with the windows open. We did, however, like the Porto-inspired art prints in the living room.

This home is located on the Rua Galeria de Paris, a street famous for its nightlife and lively spirit. It's a simple yet elegant apartment, with clean lines, crisp white walls and modern furniture. But the best feature, we're sure you'll agree, has to be the roof terrace. You could spend hours up here, from your morning coffee to a final sundowner, looking out over the historic buildings of Porto's old town. 

You're well-positioned to visit many of the top sights in the city, with Clérigos Tower and Aliados Avenue a five-minute walk away, and the Livraria Lello Bookstore just around the corner – rumour has it this literary wonderland inspired the Hogwarts library. Your host can even organise food tours on request, showing you the very best of the city's gastronomic scene. And, when night falls, you only need to step outside to find yourself right in the epicentre of Porto's fabulous nightlife.

Surrounded by restaurants, cafes and some of Porto's most iconic sights, this apartment is one of eight conversions of former workers' houses. Now, it's a charming spot for couples and solo travellers itching to be in the heart of this vibrant city. Porto Cathedral, Lapa Church, and the Douro River are all reachable on foot or from the tram stop only minutes away. This place does lack character inside, and the bedroom is in a mezzanine, which may not suit taller guests. That said, though you share the patio with neighbours on either side of you, the little bistro table still makes for a nice breakfast spot every morning.

Porto Poetry

Located right next to Jardim das Virtudes and near the iconic Clérigos Tower, this stylish studio apartment gives guests the convenience of being able to walk out to see Porto's attractions with ease. The perfect base from which to explore the city, the space features a small balcony with enough room to sit and enjoy a drink in the sunshine. Inside, ample sunlight flows through the studio during the day, and the cosy set-up and aesthetics of the living area allow for chilled-out evenings at home. While the draw of this place is having the choice, it's quite likely you'll want to discover the nearby local eateries and wine cellars when staying here.

This place caught our eye for its waterfront location. Situated on the banks of the Douro River in Porto, Portugal’s second biggest city, you’re perfectly placed to enjoy relaxing walks along the riverside. The surrounding area is steeped in history with narrow, cobbled streets, merchants’ houses and iconic bridges, and the city centre is just 2km away. You’ll have access to a shared swimming pool that’s open all year round, as well as a shared garden and a restaurant. Most of the apartments offer river views but as your host operates several apartments here, the exact view may differ from the photos.
