Thanks to the light streaming in, it’s also bright and we encourage you to throw open all of the large windows – don’t forget the Juliette balcony doors – to get the sun, breeze, and buzz of city life below inside. Go about reading on the sofa with a coffee, or sketching from the leather chair, surrounded by Lisbon and when you’re ready to leave your home and have the city envelop you entirely, you can start with a stop at Pink Street. Once you’ve walked under the umbrellas and had a cocktail with lunch, visit the historic Rua Augusta Arch, the museum, and many galleries. 

Return home after a long day to enjoy a light bite at the dining table before sinking back into the sofa with sweet treats and your favourite singer crooning over the Marshall speaker. The neighbourhood does have quite a bit going for it in terms of nightlife, so if you’d like to explore it, head out to one of the local bars.

Domingos is a beautifully maintained family home in Lapa, with plenty of space, and even a patio out the back. Make new memories dining alfresco out on the leafy, private terrace – it's the perfect place to unwind after a day exploring Lisbon. Known for its beautiful buildings, picturesque gardens and global embassies, Lapa is a largely residential area and consequently very quiet. Here, you'll be far removed from the tourists and intense crowds of this thriving city, and yet within reach of Baixa. Perhaps most importantly, the emphasis has clearly been on making it comfortable, rather than trying to squeeze people in. Having a separate (and large) living room, dining area, and kitchen makes it feel genuinely welcoming. The vibrant colours and eclectic decor really stand out too. And with the layout of the bedrooms, it would be particularly well suited to a family holiday.

Behind the apartment building's beautifully restored facade adorned in oh-so-Portuguese azulejos tiles, you'll find the most stylish of homes. Rattan accents and objets d'art bring layers of interest, while over in the light-flooded bedroom, you'll find one hug of a king-sized bed to wake up in with freshly brewed coffees (the pod machine can help with that).

After hectic days ambling Lisbon's streets, sink into that butter-soft butterfly chair (glass of punchy ginjinha optional) as you soak up the street life below through the Juliet balcony windows. The sound system will bring all the ambience as you rustle up dinner in the contemporary, made-for-action kitchen. Though with so many buzzy cafes and restaurants on your doorstep in the waterside district of Santos, we wouldn't blame you if you for dining out instead. 

One of Lisbon's oldest neighbourhoods, this former stomping ground for the city's aristocrats now attracts architects and artists who have established a hip community of glossy shops, eateries, and clubs to keep the night flowing. And you're just a few minutes from downtown with plenty of transport options when it's time to blaze a trail to another corner of the city. Didn't we say this place had it all going on?

Miles of Tiles

This historic apartment has many perks, including a private outdoor terrace and a small shared swimming pool – a rarity in central Lisbon. But it's the Santos location that's caught our eye. One of Lisbon's oldest and most happening neighbourhoods, this waterside district is the place to be. If we were being picky, some areas of the apartment lack natural light, and the pocket-sized bedroom is short on floor space – but for such an unbeatable location, we can let that slide.

Lisbon Serenade

Surrounded by restaurants and cafes, this home puts you right in the beating heart of Lisbon. Start your days off with a quick bite at the dining table – the generous kitchen gives you more than enough space to cobble something tasty together – before heading out to explore the vibrant city on your doorstep.

Walk to the Rua Augusta Arch to snap a picture and carry on, from there, to the Lisbon Cathedral. Stop off for coffee and pastel de nata before continuing your grand tour of Lisbon – with accessible public transport, the city is yours to scour. 

Come home with a bag full of the iconic custard pastries to enjoy as you sit back on the sofa with your feet up. With all of the wood and natural elements in this home, you'll feel yourself unwind in no time. 

Top & Tile

Taking inspiration from the deserts of New Mexico and Morocco, the warm, earthy tones of this stylish apartment have a lasting effect. The open-concept living area is all natural textures and laidback furnishings. It might seem impossible to try and join solid marble in the kitchen with an original wooden structure in the living room, but against all odds, it works. This apartment has stayed faithful to its roots by incorporating the original support beams into its modern design while experimenting with various textures and materials. The final result is a diverse space with lots of character and plenty of light. This home is located in Casa Chafariz, a recently renovated historical landmark that celebrates the city's unique Pombaline architecture. Flying under the radar, step out into the Santos neighbourhood, and you'll find yourself in the middle of a hip community of glossy shops and cafes that's been established by local artists and architects, the focal point of which is the marina.

The Marble Baron

Located a ten-minute walk from Lisbon's waterfront, this contemporary pad is equipped with everything you need for a memorable stay. If you're not drawn in by the large communal pool and slick fitness room, maybe the dreamy interiors will convince you that this is the place to be.

This apartment makes a strong case for boho decor, where rattan and wicker furniture blend in among earthy tones and flourishing indoor plants. Sleek kitchen units keep the open-plan living modern – and encourage you to try your hand at Portuguese cooking. Outside, the large private terrace is the perfect hangout spot to dine al fresco and sip sangria in the last of the day's heat. 

You'll be well-placed to explore the city's finest attractions, from the Time Out Market – just an eight-minute walk away – to the bustling bar-fringed Praça do Comércio. Casa R & R

Only a few minutes from Lisbon's buzzing downtown lies Santos, one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the city. Close to all the must-see landmarks yet tucked away from the more tourist-heavy spots, it's no wonder this is a favourite area for locals and college students – plus, excellent public transport links make this a prime place for exploring. Enjoy walks along the riverfront, discover the city's old churches or browse the ancient art in the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga. Later on, head to the famous Pink Street for a night on the town – it's a hub of bars, restaurants and clubs.

Afterwards, make your way home to this cosy apartment and kick off your shoes. Situated in a restored building with a tiled-covered facade and oodles of Juliet balconies, it's quintessentially Portuguese on the outside. One step inside, however, and you'll find contemporary design in spades. 

Sunlight streams through the French windows, creating a bright and inviting space to relax, while aquamarine-coloured tiles in the kitchen and bathroom mimic the exterior. We can easily imagine sharing bottles of Vinho Verde around the dining table, reading a guidebook on the butterfly chair and cooking in the kitchen while fado music plays on the Marshall speaker – there's even a glass desk that's ideal for remote working. It's the perfect pad for a few friends or a couple to call home, with more than enough room to spread out and get comfortable.

Moroccan-inspired, this home in Lisbon is oozing quirky character and modern charm. By contrasting the whites and browns of the neutral colour palette with pops of burnt orange and bright green plants, the space almost feels like a desert oasis. The use of the natural materials might have something to do with the eco approach, which also makes this an environmentally friendly option for anyone looking to explore Lisbon.

When you’re finally ready to head onto the colourful streets of Lisbon – hopefully partly in search of pastéis de nata – start with the ornate Arco da Rua Augusta, only thirteen minutes away on public transport. Enjoy meals at any one of the surrounding cafes and restaurant, or come back home to put something together that you can enjoy alfresco. 

Eat, drink, and be merry and once you’ve watched the sunset from the balcony, kindle the fire in the outdoor space and sit under the throws as you watch the flames dance, a glass of wine in hand.
