Daily housekeeping is included in your stay and your host is on hand to help organise special extras like bike rentals and private chefs. You’ll also find the nearest restaurants and shops within easy driving distance

We love the distinctly bohemian, even somewhat Balearic feel of this unique holiday home in the coastal region of Comporta in Portugal's scenic Alentejo. The simple country-style kitchen is ideal for preparing a low-key breakfast which can then be taken out to one of the gorgeous terrace areas to be eaten with nothing but the sounds of the countryside around you. With outdoor living areas, a rooftop terrace and a plunge-style pool, this home was made for entertaining in the sunshine – grab a glass of local Vinho Verde and celebrate your hard-earned time off with your loved ones.

Fancy a change of scenery? Head to the beach 3km away, visit the quintessentially Portuguese town of Comporta for fantastic shopping and dining, or venture further afield for a day trip to lovely Lisbon.

Wow your friends and family with a stay at this designer villa, quietly removed from the bustle of the West Coast's Comporta and yet just moments from the beach.

Inside, this place is a design lover's dream, with a chic dining room to host glamourous dinner parties and a high-style living room and adjoining library to beat the heat with afternoon reads and slumbers. While over in the bedrooms, each with ensuite bathrooms, curated art and splashes of azure blue add layers of interest and style.

But it's outside, hopping between the vast palm-fringed terraces and one-of-a-kind saltwater pool, where we think you'll be spending most of your time. Sneak away to the shady pergola for a cheeky siesta – the soft burbling of the contemporary water feature should help you drift off nicely. And when it's time to get your ensemble together, that covered veranda (with heaps of room for you and some guests) has sundowners written all over it.

When the sea finally lures you in, Comporta's shores, backed by wild grass-tufted sand dunes (just over one kilometre away), deliver all the cool, beach-shack vibes you're chasing. Or, for a complete change of pace, hop in the car for a day out in Lisbon – it's closer than you think.

Wild West Coast

This modern home close to Portugal’s western coast is a great place for families or groups of friends. Each of the bedrooms comes with an ensuite and has direct access to either a terrace or private balcony. The open-plan living space provides a cosy space for communal meals, or you can make use of the built-in barbecue and outdoor dining area. Amenities such as supermarkets, restaurants and Praia da Lagoa de Albufeira beach, where you can go diving or learn how to surf, are but a short drive away. 

A Touch of Tranquility

This stunning home is the perfect escape. It’s tucked away in Santiago do Cacém in a peaceful spot – it was originally home to the friars of the Order of Santiago. You can look forward to dark wooden furniture, traditional fabrics, and rare wallpaper – the elegant dining room showcases hunting scenes and is a marvellous spot for a private chef-prepared feast. The lower garden is a tree-filled haven, while the upper garden has a heated pool, fruit trees, and a vegetable garden. You can fully unwind in this beautiful home. 

Sunkissed Delight

If we were to tell you of a hideaway that sits in the middle of twelve hectares of lush pine forest in rural Comporta, you might imagine a certain type of home and we're willing to wager that it doesn't look anything like this wonderfully modern residence.

Not only does the boxy white exterior look visually striking from the outside, but this sense of awe will continue as you step through the glass doors. Our favourite space is the double-height living, which is flooded with natural light from the copious number of windows that line the walls. However, the modern brown kitchen and equally glossy bathrooms are sure to take your breath away, as well. The design throughout feels cohesive, united by a preference for clean lines, sleek surfaces and chic minimalism.

Given the agreeable climate that this corner of the Iberian peninsula enjoys, you'll likely want to spend as many hours outdoors as possible and that's easy to do here. The long infinity swimming pool is both wonderfully refreshing when the midday sun is at its highest and made all the more relaxing by the heady scent of fragrant herbs and vegetation that grow around the sides. There are plenty of terraces and balconies on which to take a seat and do nothing more strenuous than soak up the rays, but you can also find a tennis court if you fancy a match or two.

Although there's a strong sense of tranquillity from the isolated position, you don't have to venture far to find the Portuguese coastline. Carvalhal and Pego beaches can be reached in ten minutes or so in the car, and there are a few restaurants and bars to be found close to these seaside spots.

Nestled in the heart of Carvalhal, it’s possible to walk to the nearest beach and you’ll have easy access to restaurants well as the nearest amenities. And when it comes to home comforts, you’ll find everything you could need to enjoy total relaxation. Outside, there’s a private pool and a peaceful terrace with a barbecue for magical evening meals. Inside, there’s a cosy living room with a fire for cooler days. Plus, your host can help arrange sweet extras like a private chef and bike rentals.  


The Carvalhal Retreat

Nestled on twelve hectares of verdant desert land, this palatial home waits to welcome you. The surroundings are peppered with Mediterranean pines and olive groves, creating a comfortable and secluded oasis. Floor-to-ceiling pocket doors lay bare the sumptuous interiors to the forest air and sunlight. Panoramic views of the countryside pair with the detailed decor inside, creating a sense of harmony – you can’t help but feel at peace here. 

Stretch your legs and wander the home’s expansive grounds, stopping at one of the outdoor seating areas. Speaking of, don’t you just want to sink your toes in the sand and embrace bare-foot living? We know we do. Balmy days by the pool beckon, and there’s plenty of space to spread out and relax. This is a great retreat to escape the flurry of everyday life, but if you fancy a day out you only need to drive fifteen minutes to reach sandy beaches and quaint villages. You can partake in horseback riding, surfing or winery tours, all popular within this region.
