This villa sits just 450 metres from the soft sands of Praia Grande – beach-lovers, this one’s for you. When you’re not at the beach, you’ll appreciate the wonderful sea views from beside your private pool. There’s an alfresco dining area, too – perfect for sunset cocktails and dinner. Sitting pretty moments from Praia Grande, this beachfront villa is a sun worshipper's dream. And not only is it close to the Atlantic, but there's also a private pool with panoramic views. With ample seating, including an alfresco dining table, your outlook will be nature-focused here. Though the interior is traditional rather than sleek, we love how homely it feels. We think it works especially well for families who'd like to split into smaller groups – the two self-contained apartments and a separate bungalow can make that happen. With a tick on location, daily cleaning included, and the possibility for events, you can see why this one caught our eye.

Prepare to have your breath taken away at this stunning coastal home, a six-minute drive from the town of Colares. In an elevated position, it's been designed to make the most of its epic sea views. Between its excellent amenities and the beach a short walk away, you'll be set up for a wonderful and relaxing stay. Start by taking a dip in one of your two pools – the infinity pool has spectacular views – and later move on to a game of football or tennis in your private court. Cook indoors or use the summer kitchen outside, barbecue some local fish and enjoy meals late into the night on the impressive terrace. We love the lived-in feel here, with eclectic art and comfortable furnishings. Many of the rooms have distractingly good views – none more so than the bedrooms on the top floor, where you can step out onto a balcony each morning and look out to sea. And youngsters are far from forgotten either. There's a play area indoors, with all sorts of toys and games, and outside you'll find a grassed playground. Grab your buckets and spades and there's a choice of beaches within a twenty-minute drive, along with beachside restaurants and bars.

It's pretty clear what was at the top of the list for the architect that designed this intriguing home in Comporta – natural light and lots of it. Enormous walls of glass line the sides of the home and the dazzlingly white interior design only accentuates this plentiful natural asset. These huge windows also have the added benefit of looking out to peaceful views of local rice fields, too.

As you can probably begin to tell, it's a rather relaxing address. There are lots of spots in the tropical garden in which to appreciate the local tranquillity, whether on the back of a lounger or while dining alfresco on the table. Whenever the temperature takes a dip, you can head back inside and cosy up next to the contemporary fireplace in the lounge.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the locale, there are vast swathes of golden beaches covering the Portuguese coastline that start from as close as 1.5km away, while the nearest town is only 2km away for when you're in need of restaurants and shops.

If we were to tell you of a hideaway that sits in the middle of twelve hectares of lush pine forest in rural Comporta, you might imagine a certain type of home and we're willing to wager that it doesn't look anything like this wonderfully modern residence.

Not only does the boxy white exterior look visually striking from the outside, but this sense of awe will continue as you step through the glass doors. Our favourite space is the double-height living, which is flooded with natural light from the copious number of windows that line the walls. However, the modern brown kitchen and equally glossy bathrooms are sure to take your breath away, as well. The design throughout feels cohesive, united by a preference for clean lines, sleek surfaces and chic minimalism.

Given the agreeable climate that this corner of the Iberian peninsula enjoys, you'll likely want to spend as many hours outdoors as possible and that's easy to do here. The long infinity swimming pool is both wonderfully refreshing when the midday sun is at its highest and made all the more relaxing by the heady scent of fragrant herbs and vegetation that grow around the sides. There are plenty of terraces and balconies on which to take a seat and do nothing more strenuous than soak up the rays, but you can also find a tennis court if you fancy a match or two.

Although there's a strong sense of tranquillity from the isolated position, you don't have to venture far to find the Portuguese coastline. Carvalhal and Pego beaches can be reached in ten minutes or so in the car, and there are a few restaurants and bars to be found close to these seaside spots.

Despite the home’s recent renovation in 2021, the traditional touches of a terracotta tiled roof, original gas burner, and Portuguese-style tiles were kept. It’s been beautifully done to suit both a modern and traditional preference, respecting its roots while providing a contemporary level of comfort. The kitchen is a perfect example of this – top-notch appliances are met with rustic surfaces and shelves, embodying the bohemian spirit of Comporta. It’s certainly a kitchen that wants to be cooked in, whether that’s by you or a private chef.

As much as we love the interior, it’s the outdoor area that takes the cake. You’re wrapped up in dreamy haze of peach and pink here, with hours blissfully rolling by as you lie on the in-pool daybed, dipping your toe in the water, with nothing but the forest stretching around you. Life stands still and you finally get to the level of relaxation you’ve been craving. Afternoon pool dips are followed by crisp glasses of wine, enjoyed in the sparkling white 70s-style sofa pit. When dinnertime rolls around, present a feast of salads garnished with the herbs picked from your garden and barbecued local produce along the outdoor dining table, covered by the straw pergola.

Just moments from the Atlantic ocean, you and your guests can enjoy the delights of Comporta from this excellent property. The villa's only about an hour and a half from Lisbon too, so if anyone feels like some big city lights this can easily be arranged. The Regal Villa is breath-taking in its modernity.
