This huge Palm Desert home is beyond luxury. A lawn the size of a football pitch (with goalposts you can set up if you fancy a kickabout) and a resort-style pool area make up the expansive backyard. There are many ways to escape the desert heat – swimming laps in the giant pool, secreting yourself away in one of the shaded seating areas, or soaking in one of the two sunken Jacuzzis. After the sun streaks the sky pink and orange and you’ve had your fill of uninterrupted mountain views, cosy up by the outdoor fireplace and set up the projector for an open-air cinema experience. A curation of brightly–coloured pop art pieces decorate the walls and retro accessories contrast coolly with the modern, angular furnishings. We love the fusion of old and new in this place. From the vintage, banana–yellow TV to the retro arcade game in the living room, these nostalgic additions create a space that’s full of fun and character. The bedrooms are bold and inviting, and the master bathroom is a real head–turner. The back wall is covered in luscious green foliage (fake, by the way, so there’s no need to water it!), while the gold taps of the double sink add a touch of grandeur.

There’s the pool, table tennis, heaps of kids books and toys…you name it, it’s all here, so you’ll never be stuck for stuff to do. Located in the Indian Palms Country Club and Resort, this Mediterranean-style home's private poolside looks out onto a pristine golf course complete with a mountain backdrop. Just a five-minute drive away is Empire Polo Club where Coachella and Stagecoach festivals are held throughout April. Whether you're a music obsessive or someone looking for a quiet getaway in a scenic location, this home is a real people-pleaser. The interior has been lovingly put together, with elegant furnishings, a huge kitchen and a decent art collection hanging on the walls throughout. The outside of this home is equally as impressive and those balmy Palm Springs afternoons will be pure bliss on the loungers and shaded terrace — not to mention in the hot tub when the sun goes down. What's more, guests have access to the country club's on-site restaurants, clubhouse, tennis courts and workout classes.

This enormous mansion is less than a half-hour drive from Coachella Valley, Joshua Tree National Park, Salton Sea and Palm Springs, but to be honest, you could have the stay of a lifetime here without even leaving the property. In-home spa and massage services are available to help you fully unwind. It’s a veritable palace inside, with stone columns and tiles floors keeping things cool. Myriad lounges and seating areas are spread across the open living area with a dedicated movie nook, a grand circular lounge beneath the domed ceiling and a banquet-sized table for the group to dine. You don’t need to go to Vegas to roll the dice, either – within these walls, you’ll find a full casino-style set-up including snooker, foosball and a poker table to challenge your guests to a game or ten. 

Play your cards right, and you’ll spend your stay drifting from decadent interiors to the sunny gardens, which are no less opulent – dive into the magnificent pool, soak in the integrated hot tub, host a barbecue to remember in the huge dining and grilling area, and spend a night watching the sun go down in the outdoor bar. Our favourite spot might have to be the teepee-style outdoor lounge, which adds a touch of boho charm to an otherwise opulent playground. The world is your playground here, and we’d bet good money on you wanting to return again and again.

Set in a gated community in Indio, April Showers offers the kind of luxury that the Coachella Valley is famous for. This isn't your regular Indio home with a wraparound backyard, a huge open-plan living room, and a split-level pool and spa. We particularly love the homely charm that features throughout the property – from the moment you arrive, expect to be greeted with a warmth comparable to the feeling of stepping inside your own home. Since the sun is always shining around here, you'll probably want to spend most of your time outside in the garden – whether it's for a game of ping pong, a dip in the pool, or to fire up the barbecue, gather the group together to enjoy a sociable affair from day through to evening. While there's plenty to keep you occupied on-site, this characterful villa also works beautifully as a base from which to explore the happening area. If you're into golf, this is something of a pilgrimage site. Not only is the vast PGA West complex just a few blocks away, but there are countless courses within a ten-minute drive. And there is undoubtedly plenty around to keep you busy if you aren't so keen on golf – La Quinta boasts a vast array of upmarket shops and restaurants, less than a ten-minute drive away. Did we mention that the Empire Polo Club, better known as the site of the Coachella music festival, happens to be reachable in just a six-minute drive?

The Coachella Valley has become synonymous with Southern Californian cool. And this Mediterranean-style home in Indio, home of the festival, is a great spot for a group to spend a little downtime in the desert at any time of year. There’s plenty to do nearby – spend your days exploring the restaurants, shopping, golf courses and hot springs in Indio itself. Or it’s a half-hour drive to the mid-century modern architecture and pool parties of Palm Springs. 

Perhaps you're just here to sunbathe by the pool and we can get on board with that. Soak in the hot tub, crank up the gas grill and eat out on the terrace – days here were made to be spent outdoors. Hosts can arrange for a private chef if you're really pushing the boat out and want to put the gourmet kitchen through its paces. Or, organise a relaxing massage at the house. The fireplace in the living can keep the place cosy warm on cold desert nights and wood shutters and tufted headboards in the bedrooms set a classy tone.  It might not include a Beyonce appearance but this Coachella home is a hot ticket in its own right.

This peaceful retreat lies next to some of the region's most acclaimed attractions. It offers the convenience of traveling between each top-class amenity whilst exuding a sense of tranquility at all times. The perfect blend.

The sports fans will be happy to hear Indian Wells Tennis Club and PGA Golf tournaments reside nearby. If you visit in the late spring, you can watch world-class athletes go head to head. 

For the creatives, Coachella Festival and the La Quinta Arts Festival are both moments away. If you'd prefer something more low-key, you can simply sample the top-rate restaurants and iconic stores that are in the vicinity. 

Of course, you don't have to leave your lavish abode at all. Pull up a sun bed next to the pool and spend hours in the blissful paradise, breaking up a sunbathing session with occasional dips in the water. 

Come the evenings, gather round the outdoor table for a wholesome meal, complemented by a glass of wine. The experience is made even more magical if it's illuminated by the gorgeous tones of sunset.

Found at PGA West (and offering stunning views might we add), this condo is, of course, ideal for golfers. It's actually right on the 7th fairway of the Palmer Private Course, so after a quick morning cup of coffee in the courtyard you can be teeing off in no time. Guests who haven't perfected their swing will love this home too, thanks to the beautiful shared pool, the private courtyard ideal for alfresco feasts, and the bubbling spa pool ready to melt all your worries away. Inside, it’s a lively mix of eye-catching antiques, earthy hues, and lots of mirrored walls that make it appear a lot bigger than it actually is. La Quinta’s charming old town is only a short drive away from here – and you’re also close to lots of beautiful hiking trails traversing the Santa Rosa Mountains.

This showstopper is here to attract the architectural fans — so don't tell us you haven't noticed the deconstructed minimalism and the statement furniture to go with it. Smoking Pixels is a treat for the eyes, filling every corner of the home, as well as its considerable exterior with something beautiful. If you choose this home, you'll be greeted by the sun as soon as you wake up. Make yourself a cup of coffee and sit in the perfectly manicured garden, then go for a swim in the saltwater pool and admire the symmetry of your holiday home. Keep relaxing or try out take the car out to Palm Springs or Indio. When you're back, get the fire pit going and wait for the stars to show, then retreat to the majestic lounge and watch a movie together with your loved ones.

Experience the history of old town, La Quinta first hand at this casita complex. The protected indoor/outdoor dining space with white-wash walls, wicker lampshades and Mexican blankets paint a scene out of an old western. A private pool and spa is shared between the two casitas for families and friends to come together for some fun in the sun, or an evening barbecue. Bikes are also available should you want to make a short cycle to the shops and restaurants of La Quinta. Inside, the rustic white walls, exposed beams and wooden flooring continue the historic feel. Though the sleek, stainless steel appliances in the otherwise rustic kitchen are distinctly 21st-century, there is no escaping the old-world charm of this place. Having said that, no one is leaving you totally disconnected, with modern comforts of wifi, Apple TV, and bluetooth sound systems. It is up to you whether you want to switch off here. Old or new, this is the best of both.

Coachella Valley may well come to the world's attention across two weekends in April, but there are plenty of reasons to visit during the rest of the year — one of which is to stay in this spectacular farmhouse-style villa.

Given the region's glorious climate, this is an address that makes it easy to spend as much time outdoors as possible. The heated saltwater swimming pool in the middle of the garden features a circular bar and a separate spa pool. Just next to this, there's a sunken seating area arranged around a fire pit, as well as loungers, hammock chairs and cabanas in which to sneak in an afternoon nap. As if that wasn't enough, there's also an outdoor kitchen and an impressive selection of entertainment options, including darts, a putting green and oversized versions of board game favourites.

Try as you may but you're unlikely to be able to spend your whole time out in the open air. Besides, the beautifully modern interior deserves some attention, too. The open-concept living-kitchen area benefits from eye-catching lighting, sleek surfaces and a preference for instantly soothing shades of white. There's a contemporary fireplace if the weather turns a little chilly, as well as some inviting bedrooms suites.

The Empire Polo Club where Coachella Festival takes place can be reached in all of five minutes' drive, but there's a huge range of things to do in the local area aside from that, including a vast array of golf courses, hiking in the nearby Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument and shopping in Old Town La Quinta eight minutes' drive away.

Many sports-lovers make the pilgrimage to Indian Wells, and whether you’re a golfer, a tennis player, or you just want to relax, Evening Star has you covered. The home is surrounded by country clubs and golf courses, and the Tennis Garden is within walking distance. If you want to get a little bit wilder, the southern entrance to Joshua Tree National Park is only a half-hour drive away. Back at the home, you’ll find something of an oasis in the backyard. With a fire pit, patios, a pool and spa, and a grill and smoker, you could base the entire trip around that space and not run out of things to do.

With high ceilings and a huge kitchen at its heart, there’s no better place to enjoy sun-soaked La Quinta than this light-filled lakeside retreat. But we don’t think you’ll be spending much time indoors – not when you’ve got a back garden like this. Start your day with a refreshing dip in the pool before skipping down to the jetty for a trip across the water on your private boat. Then, pootle back home for an afternoon of tanning or find a shady spot on the terrace to make it through a few more chapters of your holiday read. When you do eventually head back inside, challenge your nearest and dearest to a frame of pool in the games room with a couple of fresh margs in hand while the appointed chef of your bunch gets the barbecue going. End each unforgettable evening around the crackling fire pit or in the bubbling rock formation hot tub, watching on as the stars emerge above the serrated mountainous skyline.

Set between the 13th and 14th holes of the Palm Desert Country Club (redesigned by maestro Gary Bickler in 2006), this spectacular home is worthy of becoming any discerning golfer's ultimate Palm Springs oasis. Built in 1972, the inside of this rad pad adopts a contemporary twist on mid-century style. In the living room, there are low slung pendants, grey sofas jazzed up with turquoise cushions and funky watercolour artwork on the walls. 

The bedrooms are all playfully styled, with flamingo print bedding and luxurious faux fur throws. There's an abundance of light in most rooms thanks to generous windows and sliding glass doors, and we love how you can walk straight from the master bedroom into the bubbling jacuzzi. The glittering swimming pool is the ideal spot to stretch out and cool down, and at nightfall, we can't think of anywhere better to be than sitting next to the flickering fire pit while nursing a tumbler of whisky.
