Just two blocks away from the beach and one block from the local boutiques and restaurants, this modern beach shack in San Diego provides guests with comfort and style in a great location. 

Recently remodelled, the kitchen is fully equipped and sparkly clean, while the L-shaped sofa in the living room is perfect for sinking into after a busy day. In the bedroom, guests will find a comfy bed with crisp linen and a vanity station which can easily be used as a desk for anyone in need of a home office. It’s a relatively small home, but you needn’t worry because there’s a wonderful outdoor area to enjoy too – equipped with a fire pit and surrounded by benches, it offers the perfect place to wind down. 

You can make the five-minute walk down to Ocean Beach to admire a magical sunset over the water, try your hand at surfing or simply stroll along the sand. Just two minutes away you'll find the local farmer's market, which sells artisanal produce every Wednesday. And, should you fancy an evening out in the city's traditional Gaslamp Quarter, you can drive there in just twelve minutes.

When it comes to Afternoon Delight, it's all about the location. Boasting delightful views over San Diego Bay, the home is just three blocks from India Street in the centre of Little Italy, where a vast range of wonderful restaurants await your visit. On top of that, Balboa Park, San Diego Zoo, Hillcrest and Downtown are all within walking distance, so you really won't be running out of things to do and see. Of course, it only helps that Afternoon Delight is also a wonderful space to call home. This modern build can accommodate up to five guests comfortably, with one of them sleeping on the double pull-down bed in the second living space. The rest of the home has been beautifully furnished and boasts modern amenities and appliances for a relaxing stay.

Those who see being described as 'meticulous' as something to be proud of will adore this three-storey home in San Diego's North Park neighbourhood. Every component has been thoughtfully considered, from the manicured gardens upon entrance and the colourful modern furniture in the living room, to the sleek kitchen bathed in natural light from the windows running along one wall. Even the exterior is pleasing to look at, the clean lines and black panelling making it stand out as a pillar of modernity in the locale. That being said, you won't feel as if you're in a showroom, thanks to the bountiful amount of space dedicated to relaxation — our favourite has to be the balcony on the first floor that puts you at tree-top level. The location is superb, too. Balboa Park — which holds San Diego Zoo — can be reached in under fifteen minutes on foot, while you can drive to Coronado Beach in ten minutes.

For those in town on business, there's a sleek desk space for powering through emails before heading out to explore. The neighbourhood of North Park is just a seven-minute walk away – it's great for flat-white sipping, beer tasting and boutique browsing. You’re even closer to the San Diego Zoo (a four-minute drive), and under fifteen minutes from the beach – placing you squarely in the middle of the action. Pack a picnic and watch the sunset on the sand, then take the long way home, soaking in the balmy nights of this lively city.

Head out the door of this immaculate beach house and you’ll find yourself just seconds away from the golden sands of Mission Beach. Inside, the cool coastal palette reflects the dreamy beachfront location, with accents of driftwood and natural rattan, and there are excellent views of the ocean from the large sun deck. Be the first to bag a spot on the sand and set up camp for the day – the host supplies beach chairs, boogie boards and towels so you’ll be well equipped. That said, you’re so close that you can easily zip back for a forgotten umbrella or some sun cream. If you’re a thrill-seeker, hop on one of the supplied beach cruisers and ride the half mile down the front to Belmont Park’s Big Dipper. As the sun starts to dip in the sky, de-sand the kids ahead of pre-dinner drinks on the outdoor sofa. There’s a barbecue, and the sleek kitchen is a pleasure to cook in, but if you’d rather somebody else did the work, then you’re within walking distance of Mission Beach’s colourful restaurants and cafes.


Stay Classy

This small-but-mighty home is a great base to immerse yourself in the bohemian lifestyle of Ocean Beach. Secluded among lush greenery with the call of the ocean just two blocks away, the compact space is nicely set up. Start your day at the breakfast bar with a rocket-fuel coffee, then grab your sunnies and towel and head down to the shore. 

Your stay here may seem to fly by as you while the days away on Newport Avenue uncovering unique pieces at vintage stores or people-watching in one of the many coffee shops. After dark, the area buzzes with live music and entertainment from trendy bars and restaurants. It’s also a short drive from downtown San Diego if you’re craving city life, or you can get your nature fix exploring the scenic coastal paths.

With Mission Bay Aquatic Center located just steps away, and breakfast spots, coffee houses, pubs and restaurants all within close walking distance – you needn't lift so much as a finger when it comes to meal times. However, it's nice to have the option of cooking at the villa, should you wish to rustle up your own recipes too. 

Spread across three levels, watch the sailboats glide across the bay from anywhere in the home – whether that's from the top-floor balcony or down on the ground-level patio with lounge seating. Grab a drink and station yourself ready to watch the sunset over the bayfront. Bliss. We couldn't think of a dreamier way to start and end your days here than with a leisurely stroll along the bayside boardwalks. Or better still, make footprints in the sand as you listen to the waves crash before you on the beach itself.

With panoramic sea views, you’re in a prime position for watching the sunset over the North Pacific Ocean from the beachfront terrace or balcony. Located close to the seafront boardwalk, with volleyball courts, a playground, and calm waters nearby, it’s a great choice for families. It’s worth noting that this villa is only available with five bedrooms and four bathrooms during the summer – at other times it’s rented as a four-bedroom, three-bathroom home that sleeps ten.

It's decked out in relaxing grey, white and turquoise hues that mirror the views of the waterfront – you'll hardly be able to tear your eyes away from the huge windows in the living room. It's quite compact, but this home is in a great location for active holidays on the South California coast. Take a paddle board to the surf – there’s one provided – or cycle along the peninsula using one of the free bikes. If you need a rest, take a moment to pause on the golden sands of South Mission Beach and soak up the rays. Back at home you can soak your muscles in the shared spa pool, before refuelling with a barbecue on the beach or a bite from one of nearby Mission Boulevard's hip cafés.

Children under 8 aren't permitted due to the lack of railings and the large staircase to the front door, but small families with babies or older children will feel right at home. The homeowners live upstairs, but you'll have your own private entrance and won't need to worry about bumping into them.
