Perfectly positioned on the famous Mission Beach boardwalk, this location is hard to beat if you’re looking to stay right on the waterfront. With cosy private terraces and an outdoor grill area that invites you to dine alfresco while you breathe in the fresh sea air, it's the outside areas of this home that steal the show (though the inside is just as well executed). Warm and welcoming, you'll find wood-panelled ceilings and expansive windows that allow you to enjoy the Pacific Ocean views from almost every angle – a true paradise. The white powdery sand is just steps away, and within two blocks, you'll discover an array of watersport rentals, restaurants, markets and beach boutiques. 

My Blue Wave

You won’t get much closer to the beach than this San Diego villa, nudged up to the golden sands of South Mission. With panoramic sea views, you’re in a prime position for watching the sunset over the North Pacific Ocean from the beachfront terrace or balcony. Located close to the seafront boardwalk, with volleyball courts, a playground, and calm waters nearby, it’s a great choice for families. It’s worth noting that this villa is only available with five bedrooms and four bathrooms during the summer – at other times it’s rented as a four-bedroom, three-bathroom home that sleeps ten.

Rock Bottom

This small-but-mighty home is a great base to immerse yourself in the bohemian lifestyle of Ocean Beach. Secluded among lush greenery with the call of the ocean just two blocks away, the compact space is nicely set up. Start your day at the breakfast bar with a rocket-fuel coffee, then grab your sunnies and towel and head down to the shore. 

Your stay here may seem to fly by as you while the days away on Newport Avenue uncovering unique pieces at vintage stores or people-watching in one of the many coffee shops. After dark, the area buzzes with live music and entertainment from trendy bars and restaurants. It’s also a short drive from downtown San Diego if you’re craving city life, or you can get your nature fix exploring the scenic coastal paths.

Come evening, head back to your abode. You’ll find the communal outdoor space is more than big enough for socialising – share a bottle of California white wine on the patio or get the fire pit going to toast marshmallows. 

Beyond the Beach

Just two blocks away from the beach and one block from the local boutiques and restaurants, this modern beach shack in San Diego provides guests with comfort and style in a great location. 

Recently remodelled, the kitchen is fully equipped and sparkly clean, while the L-shaped sofa in the living room is perfect for sinking into after a busy day. In the bedroom, guests will find a comfy bed with crisp linen and a vanity station which can easily be used as a desk for anyone in need of a home office. It’s a relatively small home, but you needn’t worry because there’s a wonderful outdoor area to enjoy too – equipped with a fire pit and surrounded by benches, it offers the perfect place to wind down. 

You can make the five-minute walk down to Ocean Beach to admire a magical sunset over the water, try your hand at surfing or simply stroll along the sand. Just two minutes away you'll find the local farmer's market, which sells artisanal produce every Wednesday. And, should you fancy an evening out in the city's traditional Gaslamp Quarter, you can drive there in just twelve minutes. 

Freshly Squeezed

Shaded by towering tropical trees, the best way to start the day is with the salty sea breeze in your hair here. Sun-soaked and earthy, we love the feel of this home. And it gets better. Just a few footsteps take you straight to South Mission Beach, where you have amazing restaurants, bars, and markets at your fingertips. While the beach is hard to tear yourself away from, we'd spare some time to explore nearby golf courses, shops, and the good old Giant Dipper Roller Coaster at the Belmont Amusement Park – all just a short walk away. At the end of the day, you can return to your modern-Victorian home for a soak in the tub and a barbecue in the private courtyard.  

My Blue Breeze

Prepare to be left speechless by the view as you open up the 32-foot retractable sliding doors to soak up the ocean breeze at this beachfront home. With glass walls offering unobstructed views of the beach and boardwalk, you'll be awestruck from the moment you arrive. The open concept kitchen is perfect for entertaining, with its sleek counters, polished stainless steel accents and imported stone flooring. Though it's not the biggest space, the floor plan has been cleverly designed to include a cool dining nook and plush living area, and a quick slide of the glazed frontage makes the space immediately double in size. With the soft, powdery sand of the beach literally on your doorstep, we doubt you'll want to go far. But if you do, you'll find an array of shops, restaurants and bars just a stone's throw away. 

My Blue Ocean

Set in a gated building right on the border of Pacific and Mission Beach and just a block from Sail Bay – this luxurious apartment is sandwiched between some of San Diego's most sought-after spots. 

Surrounded by boardwalks, the local vicinity is idyllic for strolling, running or cycling along the waterfront. Not to mention the array of watersports, including kayaking and paddle boarding, on offer here.

Summer Moves 

Steps away from the water, Briarford can offer you all the delights of the San Diego seaside. There are all sorts of activities to keep you busy, from paddle-boarding in the bay to hopping on a sailing boat, or just having a cocktail under the shade of the trees in the garden. The interior is comfortable, with decent amenities, but honestly, this home is all about the location, and on that front, it’s hard to beat.


Briarford

This home is all about outdoor living, from the front yard with its private barbecue pit to the serene back courtyard’s fire pit and second barbecue station. Inside is designed with detail in mind. Create in the cook’s kitchen, entertain in the open-plan living space and find solitude in the comfortable bedrooms. The master bedroom impresses with vaulted ceilings, a central feature fireplace and en-suite. You’re just two blocks from the beach; take the supplied bikes and cruise around the relaxed neighbourhood of Ocean Beach and over to the cliffs for some stunning views. Try some surf lessons, visit the farmer's market, and pop to the cafe next door for delicious acai bowls and sandwiches. 

Ocean Escape

With breathtaking views of Coronado and San Diego harbour, this charming 1920s California-style bungalow sits atop a west-facing hillside in an affluent part of town. Climb the stairs from street level and step into the main open-plan living area and kitchen. Here, you'll find a space blessed with high ceilings and a wall of glass with breathtaking views that leads directly onto a vast twenty-six-foot balcony running the length of the house. Pour yourself a welcome glass of Prosecco from the fridge and relax as you gaze out at the ocean and the planes coming in to land at the airport. Whether you're in town for work or play, location is key, and you couldn't be better placed here – just minutes from San Diego International Airport, Little Italy, Downtown Gaslamp, and the area's beaches. That said, there are plenty of wonderful cafes and historic neighbourhoods within walking distance, so you don't have to rely on four wheels all the time. And even when you're looking to travel further afield, it's a short stroll to the trolley stop, which can whisk you to the Gaslamp Quarter. Alternatively, take the COASTER train north to chic beach towns like Solana Beach, Encinitas and Carlsbad. At the end of a packed day, head through to the soothing bedrooms, which are decorated in neutral tones that contrast nicely with the dark wooden furnishings, while the comfortable beds make getting up in the morning a struggle. 

Down San Diego Way

From the surfboard on the wall to the proximity to Mission Beach (two minutes), this colourful home is all about the ocean. With a large, open-plan living space and sleek white kitchen, this three-storey townhouse is perfect for families or groups of friends looking to soak up the sun and catch some waves. The long black leather sofas in the lounge are great for movie nights, while the kitchen has enough space and appliances to host a dinner party. The bedrooms each have their own colour scheme too; the master suite is decked out in cooling greens, with a modern print hanging above the comfy bed. Things are just as bright in the third bedroom, where three queen-size beds mix up red furnishings against white walls. On warm evenings (so just about all of them), take to the beach – but make sure you're back in time for a piña colada and a barbecue on the Tiki-themed terrace as the sun sets.
