An open-plan layout connects the kitchen and dining areas to the relaxing living room, all with panoramic views of the mountains. There are five large bedrooms with deluxe beds that promise restful nights, and luxurious en-suite bathrooms that feature marble-tiled walk-in showers and spa facilities. Those keeping one eye on work during their stay will find two desk spaces that are perfectly suited for hosting client catch-ups and meetings. We were wowed by the open living area, designed with socialising in mind and with great views of the backyard. Out in the garden, reclining by the shimmering turquoise pool is the perfect way to unwind, but if you need to take your relaxing to the next level, there’s also a hot tub to bubble the night away in. Dine alfresco under the endless desert sky, then end the evening around the flickering fire pit with a glass of something strong as the sun sets behind the mountains.

When you want to venture out, downtown Palm Springs is only a five-minute drive away, and Joshua Tree National Park, roughly an hour away, is a must-see for hikers and nature enthusiasts. Located just a few minute's drive from Downtown Palm Springs, this home sets the tone for a restorative desert stay. Once you're done splashing about, you can try your hand at bocce ball on the regulation-size court or show off culinary skills on the built-in barbecue. Even if you're just taking a seat on a lounger, you're sure to appreciate the grapevine-covered pergola and citrus orchard that guests are free to pick from.

Inside, the architects in charge of the home's recent restoration have retained much of the period charm, as seen with the terracotta tiling underfoot, wooden furnishings and ornate chandeliers. That being said, the kitchen and bathrooms are sufficiently sleek for modern travellers and there's also a great collection of board games and books to keep you entertained.

When you're in the mood to see a little more of the local area, Downtown Palm Springs is less than five minutes' drive away and offers a wealth of galleries, restaurants and shops to explore. When it comes to outdoor excursions, there are two things you will find in abundance locally – hiking trails and golf courses. You’ll find this vibrant home tucked in a quiet space between Joshua Park and Mt San Jacinto State Park, affording you panoramic views of the San Jacinto mountains from the private pool in the back. Though we came for the vistas, we stayed for the decor – bold, bright, and modern, with just the right touch of homely comfort. Escape downtown in minutes to shop and dine or find yourself teeing off on one of a dozen surrounding golf courses. The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway – a short drive away – is a must before returning home for an ice-cold beer on the airy terrace.
