This classic Venice bungalow is all about those Californian good vibes. Dating back to the 1920s the home echoes the bohemian nature of the neighbourhood, with an authentic, laid-back feel and an eclectic mix of vintage furniture. Inside, there are period features like the pretty arched window and the wood floor, along with a fully equipped kitchen and two bedrooms. But it's the garden that's the real selling point here. Green, secluded and quirky in its own uniquely Venice way, it's a place to escape with your friends and family. Eat at the outdoor dining table, light the fire pit and sit out under the string lights at night. In the morning, grab one of the home's bikes and cycle down to the beach, or bring your boards and head out for a day surfing. A converted garage provides an extra studio bedroom for two in the garden, which can be rented along with the main house. It's perched right by the water in Marina Del Rey, and thanks to floor-to-ceiling glass walls, you'll be treated to non-stop ocean vistas no matter the time of day. A private balcony is ideal for alfresco sundowners and watching the hustle and bustle of the marina. Head inside, and you can lounge in the bright living area or gaze further afield with the telescope. There are a few quirks here, though. The main bedroom is open to the living space below, and the blinds don't block out the sunlight. But, with Venice Beach a five-minute drive away and panoramas aplenty, it's an excellent option for a getaway on the coast.

Explore the neighbourhood, and you'll find any number of fabulous cafes, bars and restaurants right on your doorstep. Local standouts include Felix Trattoria and Plant Food + Wine, both just a few minutes away on foot. You're about a half-mile from the shore and the famed Venice Skatepark facing the ocean if you head towards the coast. Head to a rooftop bar to take in the vistas while sipping a cocktail in the balmy weather - the ideal way to cap off a beautiful day.

This Venice home is an absolute delight. The proportions and layout are lovely, it's flooded with natural light, has great eco-credentials and it has a private and peaceful outdoor space. Stylishly decorated with a mid-century modern feel, and just a five-minute drive away from the beach, this place is pretty easy to love. Its recent redesign has made it sustainable – there's solar power and an osmosis water filtration system – and created a guesthouse we'd be thrilled to call home for a while. Sit in front of the gas flame fireplace, rustle up a meal in the kitchen (it's a bit retro but we love it) and sit out under the stars in your pretty garden – the soothing sound of the water feature will soon have you ready for bed. Just a short drive or a thirty-minute walk from the beach, you'll probably be heading down there most days. Santa Monica is very close by and it's just a twenty-five-minute drive from Hollywood. You'll also be able to stroll to some of the best bars and restaurants in LA on Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Rose Avenue.

When you get the urge to explore your local area, a short stroll will take you to the Abbot Kinney Boulevard strip where you’ll find a range of trendy boutiques and buzzy restaurants.

Why not cycle over to the Venice Beach Boardwalk and see where the day takes you – if you’re very dedicated, you can reach stunning Malibu in just under two hours.

There’s a zen calm to the home, where a Baddha stands in prayer and sprouting grass adds a touch of natural green to the living room. Though you’re on the edge of the city here, big windows show off a view of trees. There’s a quiet little roof terrace, where greenery creeps over the wall and two comfy chairs provide the perfect cocktail spot. Up the spiral staircase, both bedrooms are decorated in the ink-black and parchment white of Japanese zen and the master has a desk in the sunny window.

This fabulous three-bedroom home is the epitome of LA glamour and style. On the ground floor, the long breakfast bar is lined with beautiful rustic wood stools. It really comes to life on the first Friday of each month, when the boulevard is given over to a street festival filled with live music and food trucks. You're less than a mile from the bodybuilders and bohemians that frequent the vibrant Venice Boardwalk, which you can follow north to Santa Monica and up as far as Pacific Palisades.

It’s easy to forget how big LA is, and that even places in Venice might be a half-hour walk from the beach. Hertford Union overlooks the canals, and the sea is less than five minutes away on foot. It’s big, the kind of thing that naturally comes to mind when you think of LA. There are white walls, terraces, greenery, exposed wood. It’s also kept in wonderful condition, and you can see that this is a matter of pride for the hosts, Trevor and Lauren.

This stunning Venetian sanctuary has been home to Hollywood legends and it’s not hard to see why. Besides its striking design, the house boasts amazing features such as several outdoor terraces, including a rooftop one complete with fire pit and 360 views. With Abbott Kinney Boulevard on your doorstep, you can shop to your heart’s content and stop off for a coffee at a number of cafes. Venice Beach is but a seven-minute walk away, or you could spend the day in downtown L.A. Once you stay at this home, you may never want to leave.

Even though this home has a bit of a New England feel to it, once you step outside, you will be in no doubt that it's in Santa Monica. It’s on a hidden walkway off the main road — which gives it a sense of privacy — and the beach is only two minutes' walk away. The Pier and Muscle Beach only takes ten on foot, too. Back inside, the interior has been designed to feel beachy but in a way you’d associate more with the East Coast — think vaulted ceilings, fireplaces and soft pastels. The huge kitchen will be a highlight for those with culinary talents and if the weather's nice — which we're going to wager it will be — you can serve up dinner outside on the private patio. Better still, there's a barbecue for grilling up some meaty flavours to grateful guests.

We fell in love with this home based on the location alone, even before crossing the threshold. Just a stone's throw from the beach, you can easily jump in the ocean before breakfast. You're conveniently located just one block from Main St, where you'll find indie boutiques, charming cafes and Michelin-recognised restaurants. The home itself is equally breathtaking – we adore the double-height living space with a sea view. It's exceptionally stylish, brimming with character. The amount of art hanging on the walls would put some galleries to shame. It's definitely a home that makes you want to know its owners – a truly unique place to stay and one that's ready for its Instagram close-up.

We love this home both for its incredible location and impeccable styling – your oasis will be just a five-minute walk from the canals, eight minutes from the dining and shopping of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and a fifteen-minute walk from the beach. Inside, the home has a beautiful modern design to it, with polished concrete walls and large grided windows. The space feels bright and clear-headed at the same time as it’s inviting and cosy – especially with the giant velvet blue velvet in the living area.
