Set in over an acre of private desert, The Sundial is as characteristic a piece of modern desert architecture as you’ll see. The home is enveloped by the stillness and tranquility that comes with such isolation – evenings spent on the terrace beneath the stars offer a different speed of life to the city. The views of the national park at sunset are breathtaking, and the way that the interiors open up to nature, framing the vistas, is unique. It’s also worth mentioning that the location is pretty convenient. Despite the feeling of complete seclusion, downtown Joshua Tree is about five minutes away, with Palm Springs less than hour. And Michael and his team go the extra mile in their levels of service, providing a dedicated hospitality concierge in order to help you arrange anything you want or need.

The Sundial

Visiting Joshua Tree is one thing, but seeing a big portion from the comfort of your bath is another. If the latter sounds like a bucket list goal, then Zenith Valley is for you. With absolute privacy and stunning views, this home is a great getaway for those who want to kick their feet up and relax — for a few days at least. A typical day here starts with a sunny breakfast and an optional yoga routine, for which there's plenty of space. Then head outside on the terrace to lounge and read, before dipping into a hot bath. When it comes to socialising, you've got plenty of activities to try out, like ping pong, pool, as well as your own poker table. In the evenings, retreat to the luxurious bedrooms for some rest and enjoy the sounds of Yucca Valley far away from the buzzing city traffic. 

Zenith Valley

Wild Rocks is one of those homes that always appears effortlessly chic. Designed by Oller & Pejic, it’s an architectural gem set against Yucca Valley’s rugged desert terrain. The sliding glass doors blur the lines between the inside and outside, allowing you to enjoy home-cooked meals on the terrace, gaze at the stars, and relax in the hot tub. We also loved the enormous record collection, which features some of the host Joann’s all-time favourite tunes. Found just a short drive from Joshua Tree National Park, there are plenty of exciting adventures waiting for you.

Wild Rocks

Set in two acres of private desert landscape, this bijou cabin is a place to unwind and let the rush of modern life slip away. In the rugged landscape surrounding this home, you’ve got a hot tub and macrame hammocks sitting beneath the big desert sky. Out favourite spot to watch the sunset is the ‘moon bench’ and once the sky has speckled with stars its time to get a fire crackling in the white-plaster fire pit and look for shooting stars.

Inside, you can feel that the hosts have poured their heart and soul into the decor, where crisp walls are adorned with object d’art in every desert hue. Furniture is vintage and hand-picked, and there’s a record player to curate the perfect soundtrack to your desert escape. The kitchen has all the essentials, and the selection of ceramic crockery feels as though each mug and plate has been considered.

If you want to get out and explore, Joshua Tree town is a twenty-minute drive and the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park is just beyond for endless desert and mountain hiking trails.  

Moonstone Mesa

This small but perfectly formed cabin can be found in the heart of Yucca Valley on 2.5 acres of wilderness. The perfect base for a small family or two couples, it’s been thoughtfully decorated with a mid-century design meets boho vibe. We love the funky geometric tiles in the kitchen and the colourful rugs scattered throughout the home. Drive down the unmade dirt track to Pioneertown for a taste of the Wild West or head to Joshua Tree National Park for wild landscapes and stellar hiking opportunities. We can see ourselves relaxing on the canopied sun lounger with a glass of something cold in hand as the sun goes down. The stargazing in the hi-desert is something to write home about so after supper, just lie back and enjoy. 

Flower Girls

Escape to this remote studio sanctuary and reconnect with mother nature. This is more than just an unpretentious cabin in the desert – this is a home that invites you to let go of life's complications and to instead find your roots in nature and embrace the bear necessities – pretty much in keeping with the Joshua Tree area surrounding it. The highlight of this home is, of course, soaking in the granite bathtub with water supplied from the mineral-rich hot spring. Take this moment to absorb the water's healing properties and nourish your body. Staying here is also about spending days and nights on the porch, breathing in the clean air with sunrise stretches, daily meditation and stargazing in the desert evening's clear night skies which – in our opinion – is some of the best stargazing on the planet. Inside the design is simple with hand-dyed indigo bedding and touches of local art – the sleek desert motif is clear, and a perfect complement to adventures and hikes in the natural landscape all around. Take the half-hour drive to Joshua Tree National Park, and don't forget to take your camera with you – we can vouch for the sublime vistas. 

The Chaparral Oasis

Equal parts rustic cabin and architectural gem, this A-Frame is a unique desert retreat in Yucca Valley. Enjoy total stillness and relaxation while admiring the views. There’s an outdoor cedar tub, a saltwater pool and a sauna where you can sit back and soak it all in. You’ll find everything you could need for magical evening’s under the stars thanks to the barbecue and fire pit, while the rooms deliver all the comfort you could need for a restful night’s sleep. By day, you can explore explore Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley and Pioneertown – all within easy driving distance. 


The Cactus Blossom

Nestled among large boulders and desert sands, this home is a true Joshua Tree getaway with a private saltwater pool/spa and outdoor shower. With no neighbours around, it's an escape from civilisation that's at one with nature and design. The floor-to-ceiling moving glass walls blur the lines between the indoors/outdoors, allowing you to take advantage of the surroundings at all times. Inside, works by local artists and famous designers merge, while the kitchen sets the scene for great meals. We could go on and on about this home – but you should really check it out for yourself!

Desert Skies

A mid-century masterpiece with personality to spare, this home hidden away in the desert is a spectacular stay. Every room here has been curated as if it were a museum, and many of the vintage trinkets and treasures belong to the home's owner, celebrated designer Julia Chasman. The living room is the heart of the buzz, warm and rich thanks to the striking orange-red woodburner, old piano, Art Deco lampshades and ikat rugs. The delightful bedrooms have a Western country feel with large, plush beds, framed storybook illustrations and patchwork quilts, while the en-suite bathrooms feature magnificent free-standing roll-top bathtubs and patterned-tiled walk-in showers. And the outside is just as much as a masterpiece as the inside. On the deck take in those uninterrupted views of the Joshua Tree desert, before jumping into the hot tub - best enjoyed at nightfall where you might lucky enough to spot a shooting star.

Quail's End

There's something special about desert light, and this captivating Joshua Tree retreat is the perfect place to observe it. The sunsets are visible from the outdoor Jacuzzi or cooling cowboy tub, while the mirrored dome in the garden was designed with stargazing in mind. It's clear as soon as you arrive that your hosts, Cherish and Ramon, have put a lot of effort into the interiors of the home, and they've bestowed it with a certain rustic desert charm that's hard to pinpoint. Of course, it doesn't hurt that you can step directly out onto the deck in the cool of the morning and watch the desert critters scurrying around before they're forced to retreat from the heat of the day. If you want to head off for the day, the west entrance to Joshua Tree National Park is only two miles away, your gateway to almost 800,000 acres of mystic desert. Your hosts also provide two eclectic bikes that you can use to pedal your way across the desert.

Streamliner

Travellers have long been drawn to the desert to discover its secrets. And this home in the heart of Joshua Tree makes the perfect setting to experience the magic of this landscape. 

Stepping inside feels like entering a calm oasis. The interior has been beautifully designed to reflect the natural elements, creating a soft and gentle atmosphere. It’s easy to feel at home here. From the moment you wake up, the desert light will draw you outside and onto the patio. This is a wonderful place to begin the day. Take a refreshing morning dip in the pool before gathering for breakfast around the outdoor dining table. 

From hiking and guided rock climbing, to sound baths and stargazing, there are many ways to experience the majestic power of the desert. Joshua Tree National Park is only a ten–minute drive away while the village is only a five–minute drive – here you’ll find all the supplies you could need for a fulfilling stay.  

Whether you’re here for an adventure or to simply relax, this home is a gateway to the heart of desert living. As the day draws to a close, light up the barbecue, pour a glass of something special and watch the sky turn pink. 

The Super Moon

A group of friends seeking a little bit of magic will fall in love with this whimsical home, set in five acres of desert land. It's a truly unique setup, compromised of the main cabin, a yurt, three trailers and a safari tent – this is guaranteed to be a glamping experience you'll never forget. Ease yourself into the rugged landscape with lunch under the linen canopy, before taking an alfresco bath as you wash away your stresses in perfect peace. On piercing-cold desert nights, cosy up around the crackling fire pit to toast marshmallows and tell stories, or hunker down under the boho-chic blankets in your trailer. The sunrises and sunsets here are spectacular but don't miss the opportunity to do some stargazing away from the bright city lights too. Joshua Tree National Park and Yucca Valley are less than a twenty-minute drive away for those looking for adventure, but we don't blame you if you never want to leave this desert sanctuary.
