The living room’s huge glass doors give way to a sun-soaked patio while just inside, a large dining table is perfectly positioned for semi-al fresco dining. An eye-catching iron staircase leads upstairs to the bedrooms, both boasting their own freestanding bathtubs in their respectively luxurious bathrooms. Wander down to the large, white kitchen to cook up a Cali-fresh meal, or head out to explore Mountain View’s downtown bars and restaurants just under a mile away. While the area is known for its many cycling and walking paths, you can also easily explore further afield. If you’re not hitting the building’s private gym, perhaps take a jog through Bedwell Bayfront Park, a five-minute walk away. For a day out in the city, San Francisco is just a half-hour drive away (or fifty minutes on the train from Redwood).

Located down an idyllic, oak tree-lined country road and nestled amongst the vines of a working vineyard in Sonoma, this place is utter bliss. You can see the beautiful vineyards even when sitting inside, from the large picture window in the living room. The vista is a sight to behold when the sun rises, flooding the modern lounge with light. The kitchen with its Viking gourmet range is perfect for entertaining, or you can grill dinner on the barbecue and enjoy a meal at the salvaged wood farm table. We love the raised garden beds full of seasonal vegetables and herbs – perfect for using in your cooking. With its multiple terraces and separate one bedroom casita, this home is just the ticket for a group of friends or multi-generational family wanting their own space. If you fancy venturing out, Downtown Sonoma is around a 5-minute drive away, but we really wouldn't blame you if you didn't want to step a foot away from this truly magical place.

In the centre of downtown Paso Robles, this stylish apartment puts you close to shops, restaurants and, of course, wine tasting rooms. The hills around Paso are filled with California’s best wineries where Zinfandel and Petit Sirah grapes grow plump on the vine. Indulge in a warming Pinot Noir in the living room, where faux fur cushions invite you to cosy up on the mid-century-style sofa. The sleek, black kitchen has everything you need, including plenty of room for a few bottles of Chardonnay in the big American-style fridge. It's also a favourite amongst surfers, so whether you like to be part of the action or watch it all from a safe distance, Pacifica State Beach caters to all. There is a range of surf shops and some great local eateries on your doorstep too. For those who want to see more than just the coast, San Francisco is less than a twenty-five-minute drive away. When you're done exploring all that the San Francisco Peninsula has to offer, head home and rustle up a cioppino in the modern kitchen. We love the balcony with its views over the neighbourhood – perfect for a sundowner. Nestled in the city of Roseville, California, this modern home is great for friends and families. Well-behaved pets are welcome for an additional fee, and your host can provide a cot and safety equipment for little ones. You'll find a gym, shops, and Blue Oaks Park within walking distance. That said, we recommend hiring a car to get the most out of your stay here – it's less than an hour's drive to Sacramento, and a couple of hours into San Francisco for day trips.

This Victorian-style home caught our eye for its great location in the heart of Noe Valley. San Francisco’s iconic cable car runs just in front of the building to whisk you away to all the famous tourist spots, and you’ve got 24th Street, with its bakeries, cafes, and cheese and wine shops, on your doorstep. And when you’re not busy sightseeing, you can relax on the private, sunny balcony or enjoy a meal around the ten-seater dining table. While babies and teenagers are welcome here, the home isn’t suitable for children aged 2 to 12.
